Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →The three MCP servers highlighted in the source article connect an AI host to local project files, GitHub repositories, and PostgreSQL databases. The practical setup pattern is to install a server, configure it in the host application, then fully restart that app—but exact package commands and permissions depend on the server and host. The author describes using these integrations daily; that personal-use claim and the article’s suggested installer command have not been independently verified.
What these three MCP servers connect to
MCP is an open standard that lets AI applications connect to tools and data systems. A server can expose tools, resources, and prompts for a compatible host to use. These three examples cover distinct parts of a development workflow:

| Server | Connects to | Example use |
|---|---|---|
| Filesystem | Local files in configured directories | Read and explain code in a project |
| GitHub | Repositories and related activity | Review pull requests or browse repository information |
| PostgreSQL | A PostgreSQL database | Ask questions that require database queries |
The article’s examples include asking, “Read the auth module and explain how the token validation works,” and “Check what changed in the last 3 PRs and summarize.” It also suggests asking for users who signed up but have not logged in. These are illustrative prompts, not verified workflows or guarantees about what a particular server can do.
How to set up an MCP server in Claude Desktop
The article gives a short recipe: install a server, add its configuration to claude_desktop_config.json, and restart Claude Desktop. Its example command is mcp-hub install <server>. Treat that command and the package names as version-sensitive: the article’s claim that the servers were verified on npm has not been independently confirmed, and the official host documentation does not validate that installer flow.

- Choose the server and check its current upstream instructions. Confirm the package name, supported installation method, required environment values, and permissions for the version you intend to use.
- Configure the host. For local integrations, the official Python SDK guide describes a host launching the server as a child process over standard input and output. Follow the current Claude Desktop configuration instructions for the server; where paths are required, use absolute paths. Other AI hosts use their own configuration conventions, so Claude Desktop’s JSON file is not a universal MCP configuration.
- Fully quit and reopen Claude Desktop. The official guide recommends a full quit and reopen after configuration edits so the host reloads the settings.
- Check that the server is available before relying on it. Verify the host can see the expected tools and that a test request is limited to the intended files, repository, or database.
The MCP project also documents a portable local-server bundle format for compatible clients, including Claude Desktop and Claude Code. That ecosystem option does not establish that these particular Filesystem, GitHub, or PostgreSQL servers are distributed as bundles.
Choose access carefully for each integration
Filesystem: constrain the directory
Point the server at the project root or other specific directory the assistant needs, not the entire disk. A broad configured path can expose files well beyond the project. Check the actual paths in the server configuration before connecting it.

GitHub: inspect what the server can do
Repository browsing and pull-request review are the suggested use cases, but access is not necessarily read-only. Review the current server’s permissions and configuration before granting access to private repositories or organizational data.

PostgreSQL: protect database access
The article does not establish the permissions or safeguards of any specific package version. Inspect its configuration and access level before connecting a sensitive database; do not assume it is read-only.

What to verify before installing
- Confirm the server’s current upstream installation steps rather than relying on the article’s
mcp-hub install <server>example. - Check the exact permissions being granted, especially for private repositories and databases.
- Limit filesystem access to the required project directories.
- Use the configuration format for your particular host, and fully restart Claude Desktop after changing its settings.
