A controller with a built-in screen may join your home network or a hotspot for internet access. On certain older setups, your phone instead joins the controller’s own Wi-Fi network. These are different connections, and the steps for one do not apply to the other.
Which Wi-Fi connection do you need?
| What you want to connect | What joins the Wi-Fi network | Applicable setup |
|---|---|---|
| Give the controller internet access | The controller joins your home Wi-Fi or a hotspot | DJI confirms this capability for the Smart Controller. Check the manual for your exact built-in-screen controller for its menu labels and steps. |
| Connect a phone to the controller | The phone joins the controller’s Wi-Fi network | DJI documents this method for Phantom 3 Standard, Phantom 3 SE, Phantom 3 4K, and Spark. |
DJI’s Smart Controller FAQ confirms it can connect to Wi-Fi networks and hotspots, and says internet access can be used for system and app updates: DJI Smart Controller FAQ. DJI’s troubleshooting guide covers the older phone-to-controller Wi-Fi setups: DJI connection troubleshooting.

Connect a Smart Controller to a Wi-Fi network
On the Smart Controller, open its network settings, choose the Wi-Fi network or hotspot, and enter that network’s password. The exact screen labels can vary by device and software version; use the manual for your controller rather than assuming a menu path for every DJI model. DJI provides the Smart Controller manual in its download center.
Do not use these steps as a universal guide for DJI RC, RC 2, or RC-N controllers. Their Wi-Fi functions and menus are model-specific. Consult the matching manual or download page: DJI RC 2 downloads and DJI RC downloads.

Connect a phone to an older controller’s Wi-Fi
For Phantom 3 Standard, Phantom 3 SE, Phantom 3 4K, and Spark, the phone connects to the controller’s own Wi-Fi signal. This is not the same as connecting the controller to your home internet.
- Power on the controller and check its label for the Wi-Fi network name (SSID) and password.
- On the phone, open Wi-Fi settings and select the controller’s SSID. Enter the password printed on the controller. DJI lists
12341234as the default password for the applicable models; use the printed details if they differ. - Keep other nearby devices from connecting to the controller’s signal while you set up the phone link.
- Return to the appropriate DJI app after the phone has joined the controller network.
Because the controller network may not provide internet, some phones automatically leave it for a network that does. If that happens, turn off the phone’s WLAN+ or Wi-Fi Assistant feature during the connection attempt. The setting name and location depend on the phone.

Reset Wi-Fi only with the procedure for your model
Spark
With the controller powered on, hold its power button for nine seconds. Three beeps indicate that its Wi-Fi has reset.

- Check which device should join. For internet access, the controller joins the router or hotspot. For the older wireless phone link, the phone joins the controller’s SSID.
- Verify the network details. For an older controller Wi-Fi link, recheck the SSID and password printed on the controller.
- Check for another connected device. DJI advises ensuring another device has not already connected to and occupied the older controller’s signal.
- Stop automatic switching. Disable WLAN+ or Wi-Fi Assistant if the phone drops a controller network that has no internet.
- Separate Wi-Fi problems from cable problems. If your phone connects to the controller by cable, check the cable, the correct controller port, whether the phone case prevents a secure fit, app choice, firmware, and phone compatibility. These are wired-connection checks, not Wi-Fi fixes.
If model-specific troubleshooting does not resolve the issue, DJI recommends submitting the controller for diagnosis or repair through its support site.
