To use a bank card on a Samsung phone, add an eligible debit or credit card in Samsung Wallet (called Samsung Pay on some devices), complete the card issuer’s verification, then select the card, authenticate, and tap the phone near a contactless reader. A Galaxy Watch can pay too, once its wallet and card are set up. Availability depends on your region, device, software, and the exact card.
Before you add a card
Samsung Wallet works only with supported devices and compatible cards from participating banks. A bank’s participation does not guarantee that every card it issues will work. Check Samsung’s local eligibility information and ask your issuer about the specific card. Samsung’s US FAQ says ATM-only cards cannot be added; that limitation is documented for the US and should not be assumed to define eligibility in every country. You also need an active internet connection to enroll a card. Samsung notes that adding a card while abroad may be difficult if you do not have an installed SIM and active mobile connection. Samsung’s US FAQ covers this setup requirement. Device and menu availability can vary by model, software, and wireless provider; Samsung says Android 9 or later devices may use Samsung Wallet, but confirm compatibility for your particular Galaxy device. Open Samsung Wallet or Samsung Pay from your apps screen. If Quick Access is enabled, Samsung says swiping up can open the wallet. The exact screen and settings may differ by model, software version, or wireless provider. Samsung Wallet setup guidance.

Choose the option to add a payment card. Scan the card or enter its details manually, review the terms, and select a verification method when prompted. Samsung’s card enrollment instructions.

Complete the verification required by your card issuer. Depending on the card, the available route may be the bank’s app, a code sent by text or email, or a call to the bank. Samsung Support US gives approximately 5 to 10 minutes as an average verification time; it is an estimate, not a guaranteed completion time. Samsung’s verification guidance.
The card is ready to use in the wallet only after the issuer’s required verification succeeds. If you cannot complete a verification prompt, contact the issuer; it can confirm whether that card is eligible and address its own verification holds.

Pay in a store with your phone

Open Samsung Wallet and choose the card you want to use.

Authenticate as prompted on the phone.

Hold the back of the phone near the contactless payment reader. Samsung says a thick case may need to be removed if it blocks the NFC signal. Samsung’s in-store payment troubleshooting guidance.
Set up and pay with a Galaxy Watch
Watch setup uses the watch and its paired phone, rather than the phone-only enrollment flow. Samsung’s current guide says a compatible smartphone and a compatible card from a participating bank are required, and availability varies by device and region. Open Samsung Pay or Wallet on the watch and continue setup on the paired phone. A screen lock or PIN may be required.

Add or import the card, then complete any verification requested by the issuer. Use the labels and steps shown in the current Galaxy Wearable app; menus differ among watch models. Samsung’s card setup instructions.

At checkout, press and hold the watch’s Back button, select the card, and hold the watch near the contactless terminal. Samsung’s Newsroom guide describes activating at least one compatible payment card before paying. Samsung Newsroom’s Galaxy Watch guide.

Fix common setup and payment problems

Your card is not accepted: A participating bank may issue cards that are not supported. Ask the issuer about your exact card and check Samsung’s local eligibility information. Samsung’s US FAQ specifically excludes ATM-only cards in the US. Samsung’s US eligibility guidance.

Verification does not work: Follow another verification method offered in Wallet, if available, or contact the issuer. Samsung identifies the issuer as the contact for card verification issues. Samsung’s verification guidance.

You cannot add a card while traveling: Confirm that the phone has an active internet connection; Samsung notes that enrollment abroad may be difficult without an installed SIM and active mobile connection. Samsung’s US FAQ.

A replacement card arrives: Remove the old wallet entry and add the replacement card, then complete any verification the issuer requests. Samsung’s card-management guidance.

A tap does not register: Remove a thick phone case that may interfere with NFC, then try holding the phone’s back near the reader again. Samsung’s in-store payment troubleshooting guidance.
Samsung’s support pages cited here describe US guidance and generally do not state publication dates; regional card eligibility may differ. Check your country’s Samsung Wallet information and confirm support with your issuer before relying on a card for payment.
