If the TV displays other HDMI devices but still shows no picture from the receiver after these checks, DISH recommends contacting the TV manufacturer for setup help, then contacting DISH if needed.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. If HDMI is not available
Do not assume every receiver and TV supports the same connection. Check the ports on both devices before choosing a cable or adapter. DISH’s setup guide shows an RCA connection as an alternative for the receiver it illustrates; Samsung notes that a component connection may require an adapter on TVs without component inputs. The right option depends on the exact ports and supported formats, so there is no universal adapter to recommend.
When the receiver and TV are in different rooms
A direct HDMI connection describes a receiver and TV in the same room. Some secondary-TV installations instead use an existing coaxial or wall connection, with the TV tuned to a channel specified for that system. DISH’s replacement-TV instructions describe channels 60 and 73 for particular TV2 situations; those are not HDMI input settings and should not be treated as universal. Follow the instructions for the wiring already installed in your home.
Pair the DISH remote to the Samsung TV (optional)
Remote pairing lets a DISH remote control certain TV functions; it is separate from connecting the video signal. Do this only after the picture works. DISH’s pairing instructions say to press HOME twice or MENU once, depending on the remote, then go to Settings > Remote Control, choose the TV under Devices, select Pairing Wizard and follow the on-screen steps. See DISH’s remote-pairing instructions.
