To play a non-Bluetooth TV’s sound through a Bluetooth speaker, connect a separate Bluetooth audio transmitter to a TV audio output, then pair the speaker with the transmitter. The key is matching the TV’s output—usually optical, 3.5 mm, or stereo RCA—to an input on the transmitter.
What you need to check first
A TV may have Bluetooth for other features without supporting the Bluetooth audio profile needed to send sound to a speaker. Sony, for example, says certain Android TV model years and series do not support the A2DP profile for Bluetooth audio output and describes a separate transmitter as a workaround for those models. Check your specific TV’s manual and model information before assuming its Bluetooth can transmit audio. Sony’s compatibility guidance is limited to the models it lists.

Look at the TV’s ports and identify an audio output, not an input. Then choose a transmitter with a matching input. The speaker must be able to pair with the transmitter; Bluetooth branding alone does not establish that two devices support the same audio formats.
Choose the transmitter connection that matches your TV
| TV connection | What to use | Important check |
|---|---|---|
| Optical, Digital Optical, SPDIF, or TOSLINK OUT | Transmitter with an optical input and an optical cable | Confirm the TV’s digital audio output settings and the formats accepted by the transmitter. |
| 3.5 mm headphone or audio OUT | Transmitter with a 3.5 mm analog input and the required cable | Check whether using the headphone output mutes the TV speakers; this varies by model. |
| Red and white RCA Audio OUT | Transmitter with RCA inputs, or an appropriate RCA-to-3.5 mm cable for its analog input | The ports must be labeled Audio OUT. RCA Audio IN will not send TV sound. |
| HDMI ARC/eARC | An adapter that specifically supports the TV’s ARC/eARC setup and Bluetooth audio transmission | This route is adapter-dependent; confirm the TV port and the adapter’s supported standard before buying. |
Manufacturer setup material describes optical, 3.5 mm, and RCA Audio OUT as common routes; optical is recommended in Avantree’s HT280 instructions when available. Avantree’s connection instructions show the port-matching approach. Teufel describes HDMI ARC/eARC as a possible option depending on the adapter, not a universal substitute for the other outputs. Teufel’s Bluetooth audio guidance outlines that qualification.

- 【Note】Bluetooth adapter is not for live music, musical instruments, karaoke, we don't suggest that you use it for electronic pianos or guitars which require 2.4G transmission for audio synchronization.
Connect and pair the speaker
- Find the TV’s audio output. Read the port label and confirm it is an output. Note whether it is optical, 3.5 mm, RCA, or a compatible HDMI ARC/eARC connection.
- Choose a transmitter with the matching input. Check the speaker’s pairing compatibility and, if lip-sync matters, look for a Bluetooth audio format supported by both devices.
- Connect and power the transmitter. Follow its manual, use the required cable, and select the correct input on the transmitter if it has an input selector.
- Put the speaker in pairing mode. Pair it with the transmitter according to both devices’ instructions; do not assume the speaker should pair directly with the TV.
- Play TV audio and adjust volume. Set the TV’s audio output as needed and adjust the speaker level.
These are general connection steps summarized from manufacturer instructions; exact controls and menu paths depend on the TV and transmitter. Avantree’s HT280 page gives an example of connecting a TV output to the corresponding transmitter input and selecting that input.
If there is no sound
- Confirm the TV is set to use the output connected to the transmitter.
- Check that the transmitter is set to the input you actually connected.
- Inspect both ends of the cable and verify the port is an output, not an input.
- Check that the speaker is still paired with the transmitter and that both devices are powered.
- For optical connections, check the TV’s digital-audio settings and whether the transmitter accepts the format the TV is sending. Consult the manuals for the correct format and menu labels; they differ by model.
Reduce audio delay and check speaker behavior
Bluetooth audio can arrive after the picture, and latency depends on the implementation and codec used by both ends. MEE audio lists the following codec latency ranges on its Connect product page: aptX Low Latency, 30–40 milliseconds; AAC, 90–150 milliseconds; aptX, 130–170 milliseconds; and SBC, 170–270 milliseconds. These are MEE audio’s product-page claims, not independent measurements or a guarantee for another transmitter-and-speaker pairing. MEE audio’s Connect page describes those product-specific claims.

For a better chance of lip-sync, verify the exact audio formats supported by both the transmitter and speaker. A transmitter advertising aptX Low Latency does not establish that the speaker supports it. If the devices use another shared format, delay may differ; no single latency figure applies to all TV and speaker combinations.
Whether the TV’s built-in speakers keep playing is also model-specific. Some headphone outputs may mute them, and simultaneous playback depends on the TV’s settings and design. Check the TV manual and audio-output menu rather than assuming the transmitter will preserve TV-speaker sound.

Transmitter inputs and advertised codec support vary by model. Product pages can help verify those specifications: Avantree Audikast 3 lists its TV input options and advertised codec support, while MEE audio Connect Hub describes transmitter mode and connection types. Confirm the current product specifications and included accessories before purchase.
