Use a Confluence database when you need reusable structured entries and multiple tailored views; use a table on a page when you simply need to present information within that page. The choice comes down to whether you need a managed collection of data or a single, shared arrangement embedded in a page.
How a database differs from a page table
A Confluence database is a structured content type: fields define what information each entry holds, and entries hold the values. In its table layout, fields appear as columns and entries as rows. Databases live in the content tree and can be searched and linked. Atlassian describes database structure and behavior.

A page table presents cells as part of the page itself. It is a practical fit when the information belongs in one page and readers need only one shared arrangement. Atlassian’s documentation explains database features and embedding, but does not provide a formal side-by-side decision rule for databases and page tables.

Choose based on how people will use the information
| Choose a database when… | Choose a page table when… |
|---|---|
| You need defined fields and repeated entries. | You need a straightforward presentation within one page. |
| Different readers or tasks need different layouts, filters, sorting, or visible fields. | One shared arrangement works for everyone. |
| You want to reuse, link, or embed the structured collection as Confluence content. | The information makes sense as part of the page’s surrounding explanation. |
This comparison is a practical interpretation of the documented database capabilities, not an official Atlassian feature matrix. See what databases are, how to create and edit them, and how database views work.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
What database views add
A view changes how the same database is presented. It can use a different layout, filter, sort order, or set of visible fields, so teams can arrange one collection for different audiences or jobs rather than maintaining separate copies.
Saved views can be shared by copying the browser URL or using Copy link. Temporary adjustments are personal and are lost after a refresh or when you navigate away. The distinction matters if you expect a change to become the team’s default view: save and share the view rather than relying on a temporary adjustment. Details are in Atlassian’s database views guidance.

Create and populate a database
- Start creation. Use Create in the navigation, the plus control in the space content tree, or the editor’s insert menu. In the editor, you can also type
/database. The available paths are described in Atlassian’s setup instructions. - Choose a starting point. Begin with a blank database, use a template, import CSV data, or connect Jira.
- Define and enter data. Add fields for the information you need to track, then add entries and values. In table layout, you can enter or update values directly in the table; other layouts may show an entry dialog.
- Make views for distinct needs. Set the layout, filters, sorting, and visible fields, then save and share views that other readers should use.
Atlassian says fields and entries are not limited, but large databases may load more slowly and become complex. Plan the field structure and views around the work people need to do rather than treating unlimited entries as a reason to put every kind of information in one database.

Put a database on a page
You can display a database elsewhere using Smart Links, including on a Confluence page. This can suit a page that explains a process or project while also showing a reusable structured collection. Atlassian’s getting-started guidance notes that database embedding and database macros are not enabled for Confluence templates; see Get started with databases.

- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)
- Double Up on Efficiency: The two USB-A 3.0 ports and a USB-C port support a fast 5Gbps data rate, significantly boosting your transfer speeds and improving productivity.
- Fast and Reliable 85W Charging: Offers high-capacity, speedy charging for laptops up to 85W, so you spend less time tethered to an outlet and more time being productive.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
Embedding does not make the database equivalent to a page table: the database remains a structured collection with fields, entries, and views. If the information needs no such workflow and exists only to support the page’s narrative, a page table is the simpler fit.

Check access and availability first
- Space permissions: Atlassian says database permissions are managed at the space level. Confluence also has global, space, and content-level controls. Review the permissions for the intended space and users; see database documentation and Confluence permissions and restrictions.
- Free plan restrictions: Content restrictions cannot be used on the Free plan. Do not assume a database’s contents can be restricted to a narrower audience without checking the plan and space setup. Atlassian documents this in its permissions guidance.
- Government environment: Atlassian states that databases are unavailable in the Atlassian Government environment. Verify the target tenant before designing a workflow around them. See database availability.
