It keeps the survival sandbox, but raises the hardware requirement, connects the Exiled Lands with Isle of Siptah for expansion owners, adds nearby-storage crafting, and changes how returning players should handle saves and servers. This guide takes a new player from installation to a safe first base, then explains the current 2026 content and platform limits.

What Conan Exiles Enhanced changes
Enhanced is not a separate paid sequel. It is a free upgrade for existing and new Steam PC owners. Funcom moved the full PC game to Unreal Engine 5, refreshed the visuals and performance systems, and unified eight years of post-launch content. Existing progress has supported upgrade paths, although you should verify a private-world save before committing a long-running playthrough to the new branch.

- Unreal Engine 5: The PC version now uses the UE5 technology branch rather than the old UE4 build.
- Connected maps: Owners of Isle of Siptah can travel between the Exiled Lands and Siptah with one character. Siptah ownership is still required.
- Quality-of-life systems: Crafting, building, repairing and clothing dyeing can draw from nearby containers and follower inventories.
- Save flexibility: Enhanced supports multiple single-player/co-op save slots and save-transfer paths.
- Higher hardware target: The published minimum now calls for a GTX 1070 Ti/Radeon 5700 XT-class GPU with 8 GB VRAM, 16 GB RAM and an SSD.
The current game is newer than the launch build. Update 2.2.0, released September 15, moved Enhanced to Unreal Engine 5.8.2 and Iris networking. Patch 3.0.0 arrived October 6 with Rifts, new sorcery and inventory changes; hotfix 3.0.1 followed on October 8 with crash, Steam Deck stability and interface fixes. Update before troubleshooting performance or judging a feature.
Check your PC before creating a character
Enhanced is substantially more demanding than a low-end survival-PC setup. Funcom publishes the following targets:

| Component | Minimum published target | Recommended published target |
|---|---|---|
| Operating system | Windows 10 64-bit | Windows 11 64-bit |
| Processor | AMD Ryzen 5 3600 or Intel Core i5-10400F | AMD Ryzen 7 5600X or Intel Core i7-11700F |
| Memory | 16 GB RAM | 16 GB RAM |
| Graphics | NVIDIA GTX 1070 Ti or AMD Radeon 5700 XT, at least 8 GB VRAM | NVIDIA RTX 3060 or AMD Radeon RX 6700 |
| Graphics API | DirectX 12 | DirectX 12 |
| Storage and network | SSD and broadband internet | SSD and broadband internet |
The requirements are targets, not a guaranteed frame-rate promise. If the game stutters, first install the latest patch, confirm it is on the SSD and make sure the drive has free space. Close heavy background applications, then lower resolution, view distance, shadows and effects one at a time so you can identify which setting helps. Update 2.2.0 added Enhanced graphics controls and performance work, while hotfix 3.0.1 addressed additional stability problems.
Pick the right world and ruleset
Your first decision affects how much progress can be lost and how quickly you learn. Make it before spending hours on a permanent build.
| Start | Best for | Main risk or limitation |
|---|---|---|
| Solo | Learning controls, recipes and combat at your own pace | You gather and defend everything yourself; local settings determine the pace. |
| Co-op | Two or more friends who want a controlled learning world | The host’s availability and local save determine when the world is accessible. |
| Official PvE | Playing around other players without routine player-versus-player base attacks | Limited control over rules, population and building space. |
| Official PvP | Players who want raids, ambushes and clan conflict | Other players can threaten your character, inventory and base; a poor location can end a session quickly. |
| Private server | Groups needing control over rates, mods, passwords and administration | Someone must pay for or host it, configure it and keep it available. |
Solo/co-op is the least stressful introduction. PvE removes the immediate threat from other players but still leaves environmental dangers and competition for desirable locations. PvP is a different game: build in layers, avoid displaying all your resources and expect to relocate or repair. On a private server, read the administrator’s rules before joining; settings can change gathering speed, combat damage, building restrictions and wipe schedules. Official, private, Legacy and console environments do not all have the same support or update status.
Your first hour: an efficient route
- Confirm the machine and branch. Install the current Steam Enhanced build on an SSD. If Steam presents a Legacy option, do not select it accidentally when you intend to play current UE5 content.
- Choose a low-risk start. Create a solo/co-op world or join a PvE server with rules you understand. In PvP, select a server only after reading its raid and wipe conventions.
- Collect the basic trio. Pick up plant fiber, branches and loose stone immediately. Craft simple tools, then use them to collect larger quantities without exhausting your stamina.
- Secure food and water. Hunt small animals or gather safe food, cook it when you have a campfire, and locate a dependable water source before traveling inland.
- Unlock survival and building knowledge. Spend early knowledge points on the first gathering tools, basic weapons, shelter pieces, storage and a campfire. Do not spend points on advanced crafting before you can reliably survive a night.
- Place a temporary bedroll. A bedroll gives you a recovery point while you scout. Upgrade to a bed when materials and the appropriate knowledge become available.
- Scout a permanent area. Look for water, exposed stone, trees, animals and a route toward the next region. A small rise or cliff edge can reduce the number of directions you must defend.
- Build compactly. Put down a small enclosed shelter, a door, a campfire, storage and your first workstations. Leave room to expand instead of spreading foundations across a large area.
- Organize a material loop. Keep separate containers for stone and wood, plant and animal materials, metal-related resources and finished equipment. Nearby-storage crafting makes this organization more useful than carrying everything.
- Set the next journey. Use the journey objectives as a checklist for gathering, combat, shelter and exploration. Complete one nearby objective at a time rather than wandering toward a distant landmark with no supplies.
Before leaving the starter area for a difficult camp or dungeon, carry reliable armor, a shield or weapon style you can control, healing food, water, a bedroll and enough stamina-restoring food for the return trip.
Build a starter base that supports progression
Choose location by resources, not scenery
A practical first base sits close to water, stone and wood, with animals nearby and a travel route toward future camps. A beautiful isolated plateau can become a trap if every repair requires a long expedition. Check the surrounding area at different times of day and note aggressive creatures before placing the final foundation.

Keep the first footprint small
A compact room is cheaper to defend, faster to furnish and easier to move if you later discover a better region. Place storage and workstations close enough that their inventories fall within the effective nearby-storage radius. Keep a small emergency kit—basic tools, food, water and a weapon—on your character in case a container becomes inaccessible or you die away from home.
Plan for the server you selected
On PvE, your main concern is claiming enough legal building space without blocking paths or resources. On PvP, use enclosed storage, avoid one obvious entrance and do not put every valuable item in the first room. On a private server, check building rules before using large foundations or defensive designs.
Use followers as part of the logistics network
Enhanced crafting can draw from follower inventories as well as nearby storage. That reduces trips to unload materials, but it is not a substitute for organization. Keep followers close to the work area, avoid filling them with unrelated loot and remember that a follower who dies can take those ingredients with them.
How nearby-storage crafting works
In the Enhanced build, crafting, construction, repair and clothing dyeing can use ingredients from containers and follower inventories within the effective nearby range. Stand near the relevant station or building area, open the recipe or placement menu and let the game search connected inventories. You no longer need to transfer every stack to your personal inventory first.
- Put raw materials into chests near the workstations or building site.
- Keep followers carrying materials close to the same area.
- Open the station, repair or building interface and select the recipe or piece.
- If the game reports missing ingredients, move the chest or follower closer, check that the item is the correct variant and confirm that another queue has not reserved it.
- Keep a small personal reserve for field repairs and emergency tools; nearby storage does not help when you are far from home.
Centralized storage saves weight and inventory space, but it also creates a single point of failure. On a PvP server, split irreplaceable materials between secure locations rather than putting every resource in one visible room.

Character, save and migration choices
Starting a new character
Create a new character when you want to learn the revised systems without old gear, unexplained settings or a mismatched world. The first character is a tutorial in route planning: every death teaches you whether your water, food, stamina and recovery point were adequate.
Returning with an old character or base
Enhanced includes backwards-compatible UE4 save support and transfer paths, but save behavior differs between local single-player/co-op, private servers and official servers. Back up a long-running private world and verify the intended branch before migration. Test the copy first; do not overwrite the only save until you have confirmed that the character, base and inventories load correctly.
Using multiple local save slots
Enhanced supports multiple single-player/co-op save slots. Use one slot for experimentation with settings or building, and keep the main world separate. This is especially useful when testing a new route, moving a base or deciding whether to travel to Siptah.
Progression, combat and exploration
Upgrade in survival order
- Tools and food: Gather enough to replace tools rather than stopping after the first set.
- Shelter and storage: Secure a bedroll or bed, campfire and containers before chasing rare materials.
- Armor and weapon: Move from improvised gear to dependable armor and one weapon style you can use without exhausting stamina.
- Healing and stamina: Carry healing food and leave enough stamina to retreat, block or climb out of danger.
- Specialized stations: Add stations only when a recipe or resource justifies their space and upkeep.
Fight for control, not speed
Watch enemy attack patterns, block or evade deliberately and avoid fighting several groups at once. A shield can make early mistakes survivable; a two-handed weapon can be effective but demands better spacing. Pull one enemy away from a camp, retreat to your bedroll when stamina is low and repair before durability reaches zero.
Recommended Free Tools
Treat distant travel as an expedition
Carry a bedroll, food, water, spare tools and a way to mark your route. Do not take your entire stockpile into an unknown area. If you find a new resource, bring back a sample first, then decide whether the location deserves a satellite camp or a full move.

Exiled Lands and Isle of Siptah travel
For players who own the Isle of Siptah expansion, Enhanced connects the Exiled Lands and Siptah into one travelable world. You keep one character rather than starting a separate progression track. The expansion is still required; the integration does not make Siptah free.
Plan the move as a progression choice. Establish a stable base, dependable armor, healing and a return point before attempting cross-map travel. Bring only the equipment you can replace, learn the new area’s hazards and build a small staging setup before relocating valuable stations or followers. Players without the expansion should remain on the Exiled Lands; the connected-world feature does not grant access by itself.

Patch 3.0.0 introduced Mysterious Rifts in enemy camps across the Exiled Lands and Isle of Siptah, along with hostile arenas where you can select challenges, new materials, rewards and additional sorcery. Rifts are escalation content, not the first tutorial objective.
When a beginner should attempt one
- You have reliable armor and a weapon whose range and stamina cost you understand.
- You can heal during combat and have a safe retreat route.
- Your base has replacement gear, food and a recovery point.
- You have practiced against ordinary camp enemies without repeatedly running out of stamina.
Start with the least demanding available challenge, learn the arena layout and leave when your healing or durability is low. The new materials and rewards are useful, but losing your only equipment set to an optional encounter delays every other goal.
Performance troubleshooting after the UE5 move
- Update completely. Confirm the game is on the current Enhanced build, including hotfix 3.0.1 or a later replacement.
- Verify storage. Keep the installation on an SSD with free space; a nearly full drive can worsen loading and patch behavior.
- Close competing workloads. Shut down browsers, recording tools and background applications that consume CPU, RAM or disk bandwidth.
- Change one setting at a time. Lower resolution first if the GPU is saturated; then test view distance, shadows and effects.
- Check the world itself. Large player builds and busy servers can cause server-side delays even when your graphics card is adequate. Iris reduces repeated replication work but does not remove every large-build server limitation.
- Separate local and network symptoms. A low frame rate points to local rendering; rubber-banding, delayed crafting or enemies snapping back can indicate server or connection load.
There is no universal frame-rate guarantee for every configuration. Compare performance in the same area after each change, because a quiet starter camp and a densely built settlement place different loads on the system.

Platform and ownership limits
| Platform or branch | 2026 status | What that means |
|---|---|---|
| Steam PC Enhanced | Current UE5 path | Receives the current patches, connected-map features and Enhanced systems. |
| PC Legacy branch | Optional UE4 branch | Players may remain on it deliberately, but it does not receive new updates, support, Bazaar access or official servers. |
| Console | UE4 | Consoles remain on UE4 while future Enhanced availability is considered; do not expect the PC UE5 feature set. |
| Isle of Siptah | Expansion access | Ownership remains necessary even though the map is integrated for eligible PC players. |
If friends are on different branches or platforms, confirm compatibility before planning a shared world. A console player and a Steam Enhanced player should not assume that the same map, save-transfer or server feature is available to both.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I keep playing the old UE4 version on PC?
Yes. The PC Legacy branch remains available for players who deliberately choose it, but it will not receive new updates, support, Bazaar access or official servers.
Does the UE5 upgrade make Isle of Siptah free?
No. Enhanced connects the Exiled Lands and Isle of Siptah for owners of the expansion, but Siptah ownership is still required.
Why does crafting say an ingredient is missing when it is in a chest?
Move the chest or follower closer to the station or building area, confirm that the item is the exact required variant and check whether another crafting queue has reserved it. Keep a personal emergency supply for work done outside the storage radius.
Should a new player enter a Rift immediately?
No. First obtain reliable armor, a familiar weapon, healing, stamina reserves, a recovery point and replacement equipment. Rifts and their selectable arenas are optional escalation content added in Patch 3.0.0.
