Compress Pro presents itself as a free, browser-based tool for compressing images, video, audio, and PDFs without uploading files. Its site says processing happens on your device. The “checks its own quality” part is less clear: the available project descriptions do not explain what is checked, how it is measured, or whether it guarantees a particular result.
What Compress Pro does
Compress Pro’s website describes a free, open-source collection of browser tools for compressing images, video, audio, and PDFs. That makes it relevant to common jobs such as reducing an image file before sharing it or making a video smaller for storage. The site’s description establishes the project’s intended scope, not independent test results for every file type.

The public repository describes video output options including H.264, VP9, and GIF, as well as quality and target-size modes. These are documented capabilities; they do not establish how quickly a particular device will process a file or what output quality it will achieve.

Does it upload your files?
Compress Pro says files are processed locally in the browser and are not uploaded. A first-person post attributed to the builder likewise describes compression running in browser workers without an upload step: the builder’s Reddit post.

- Get NVMe solid state performance with up to 1050MB/s read and 1000MB/s write speeds in a portable, high-capacity drive(1) (Based on internal testing; performance may be lower depending on host device & other factors. 1MB=1,000,000 bytes.)
- Up to 3-meter drop protection and IP65 water and dust resistance mean this tough drive can take a beating(3) (Previously rated for 2-meter drop protection and IP55 rating. Now qualified for the higher, stated specs.)
- Use the handy carabiner loop to secure it to your belt loop or backpack for extra peace of mind.
- Help keep private content private with the included password protection featuring 256‐bit AES hardware encryption.(3)
- Easily manage files and automatically free up space with the SanDisk Memory Zone app.(5). Non-Operating Temperature -20°C to 85°C
Those are project and builder claims, not an independent privacy audit. The available descriptions do not establish that network traffic or the code has been independently checked. If a file is highly sensitive, verify the project’s behavior for yourself or use a process approved for that data rather than relying on a privacy claim alone.
What does “checks its own quality” mean?
The available project descriptions do not say what the quality check compares, which metric it uses, or whether it checks image, audio, video, or PDF output. They also do not establish that the check detects visual or audible defects, confirms a requested file size, or guarantees that a compressed file will look or sound acceptable.

- Solid state performance with up to 800MB/s read speeds in a portable drive. (Based on internal testing; performance may be lower depending on host device, interface, usage conditions and other factors. 1MB=1,000,000 bytes.)
- Back up your content and memories on a storage solution that fits seamlessly into your mobile lifestyle.
- Take it with you on your adventures—up to two-meter drop protection means this durable drive can take a beating. (Based on internal testing.)
- Secure it to your belt loop or backpack for extra peace of mind thanks to the tough rubber hook.
- From Sandisk, a brand professional photographers trust to take on assignments.
Until the project explains the mechanism, treat “checks its own quality” as an unverified feature description—not as a promise that the output has been validated. Open the result and assess it yourself before replacing or deleting the original.
What compression trade-offs should you expect?
The repository’s quality and target-size modes indicate that the tool describes different ways to approach output settings. In general, compression can involve a trade-off between file size and fidelity, but the available project material does not quantify that trade-off for Compress Pro or specify which settings change quality for each supported file type.

- Capacity Display Variance: 500GB external ssd often appears as around 465GB on Windows. MacOS can show full 500 GB capacity. This is binary calculation difference and doesn’t affect SSD hard drive actual physical storage
- 1050 MB/s Speed: Instantly access to your files with blazing-fast 10Gbps external SSD read up to 1050MB/s and write up to 1000MB/s. LED Light indicates USB SSD instant activity
- Data Security: Solid state drives S.M.A.R.T. health diagnostics and adaptive TRIM optimizing data block management ensures consistent write speeds and extends the longevity of the portable SSD
- USB-C & USB-A Cable: Both cables featuring rapid USB 3.2 Gen2, this USB SSD effortlessly bridges devices, enabling seamless cross-platform file transfers and backup between computers, smartphones, tablets and iPhone
- Always Fast: No slowdowns for large file transfers. With SLC caching (25% of current available capacity allocated as high-speed cache), this external SSD delivers steady 10Gbps for transfers within the cache capacity
- Keep the original until you have checked the compressed file.
- For images, inspect fine details and text at the size where you plan to use the file.
- For audio or video, play the output and check the sections where artifacts would matter.
- If you use a target-size mode, confirm the resulting file meets your needs rather than assuming the requested size proves acceptable quality.
What is not established
The sources describe the project’s purpose and some repository-listed options, but they do not establish browser or device compatibility, real-world processing speed, independent output-quality measurements, or the operation of the advertised quality check. Whether it works well for a particular file and device therefore remains something to verify with a copy of that file.
