DPReview has restored full-spec camera comparisons as part of its ongoing site redesign, announced on September 23, 2026. The feature is built on the site’s camera specifications database and is meant to be easier to read and compare side by side, especially on phones. The announcement describes the tool as still in beta at the time of publication, so the details below reflect what DPReview said then, not a later check of the live page.
What returned and when
On September 23, 2026, DPReview author Richard Butler published “Compare and contrast: full specs comparisons are back”, which was also updated that day. The post announces that the camera comparison feature has come back as part of the redesign of the DPReview website. It is a comparison tool for cameras, not a new camera launch, and the announcement does not recommend any model.

Where the comparison data comes from
The restored feature is designed to draw on DPReview’s camera specifications database. DPReview says it has “worked hard to build and maintain our database for more than 26 years.” That is the publisher’s own description of its database history. The announcement does not give an independent audit of the database’s size, accuracy or update frequency, so readers should treat the claim as DPReview’s account of its own resource.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsWhat DPReview says the change does
The stated goal is clearer comparison. In the announcement’s words, “The new camera comparison feature makes it easier to compare, especially on mobile.” This is the publisher’s design intent. The source does not present usability testing, timing data or reader survey results to back it up.

The table below separates what the announcement states from what it leaves unestablished for each part of the feature.
| Aspect of the feature | What DPReview states (September 23, 2026) | What the announcement does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| Specification coverage | Full-spec comparisons are restored and draw on the site’s camera specifications database. | Which specifications are shown for each camera, and whether every database entry appears in the comparison, is not stated. |
| Readability and side-by-side layout | The presentation is intended to make cameras easier to compare. | No independent readability or usability measurement is given. |
| Mobile presentation | Mobile use is the stated priority for the new comparison feature. | No mobile performance or layout test results are published in the announcement. |
| Beta status and changes | The site may still be in beta, the tool works somewhat differently from before, adjustments would follow in the coming days and weeks, and a light-theme version was being tested. | Whether these adjustments have been made since publication is not stated in the announcement. |
Beta status and what may still change
DPReview’s post says the updated site was still in beta and that the comparison feature would keep receiving changes. Those are statements made on the publication date. Because the site is being rebuilt in stages, the layout, the set of fields shown, and the way cameras are selected may differ from what the announcement describes. A light theme was also being tested at that time; the announcement does not say whether it has launched.

How to check the live tool
- Open DPReview in a browser and go to the camera comparison section of the site. Start from the site’s main navigation or the announcement page linked above.
- Choose two cameras you already know well, so you can check the specification values against the manufacturer’s published figures.
- Look at the same comparison on a phone and on a desktop browser. Note whether the fields line up and whether you can scroll through the list without losing the camera names.
- Compare the result with the announcement’s description. If a field you expect is missing, or a value differs from the manufacturer’s listing, treat that as a current behaviour to report to the site rather than a fixed rule.
What this does and does not tell you
DPReview’s announcement confirms that full-spec comparisons have returned, that they are tied to the site’s specifications database, and that mobile readability is a priority. It does not show that the tool outperforms other comparison services, and it does not offer a camera recommendation. The illustration in the post shows a Fujifilm X100V and a Panasonic L10, but that image is an illustration and not a verdict on either model. DPReview also states that it may earn a commission when readers use its product-purchase links, a disclosure that applies to the site’s wider content rather than to the comparison feature itself.
