For easier family travel, compare a stroller’s folded dimensions, child-age setup, and carrying method—not just its weight. Joolz lists the Aer+ at 13.2 lb and Aer² at 14.3 lb, while Bugaboo’s Canadian page lists the Butterfly at 7.3 kg; the available specifications are not complete enough for a like-for-like weight ranking. No stroller is guaranteed to fit every airline’s overhead bin, so check the exact model’s dimensions and your carrier’s current policy before you travel.

How to choose a compact stroller for travel

Start with the conditions your family will actually face: the child’s age, where the stroller must go when folded, and how you will carry it. A small folded package can help with car trunks and home storage as well as air travel, but a compact fold does not by itself guarantee cabin acceptance.

  • Check the folded dimensions. Compare the stroller’s listed length, width, and height with your airline’s current carry-on or stroller rules. Decide whether you plan to bring it into the cabin, gate-check it, or check it with luggage.
  • Match the configuration to your child. Confirm the minimum age for the seat and whether a newborn needs a cot, carriage mode, or a compatible infant car seat and adapter.
  • Consider the folded carry. Look for a one-hand fold, a carry strap or handle, a self-standing fold, and whether a travel pouch or bag is included or sold separately.
  • Check daily-use details. Recline, leg support, canopy, basket capacity, and wheel or suspension design matter on outings beyond the airport.
  • Verify the exact generation and accessories. Compatibility and included items can differ by model year and market. Confirm the accessory fits the stroller version you are buying.

How the options differ in practice

Joolz Aer+: a defined weight and a pouch in the box

Joolz lists the Aer+ at 13.2 lb, with a folded size of 21 × 17.7 × 8.5 inches and a maximum stroller capacity of 50 lb. Its stated age range begins at 6 months, so the seat alone is not a from-birth setup; Joolz points to a cot option for newborn use. The manufacturer lists a travel pouch in the box. Joolz Aer+ specifications and details

Joolz Aer²: a different generation, not a lighter Aer+

The Aer² is a separate model. Joolz lists it at 14.3 lb and 17.3 × 20.8 × 9.2 inches when folded, and describes a one-hand, one-second fold. A foldable cot accessory is available for newborn use. Joolz calls the stroller IATA compliant and says it fits overhead cabins, but that manufacturer claim cannot guarantee acceptance on a particular airline or flight. UPPAbaby Minu V3: prioritize the newborn setup and carry strap

Its from-birth configurations include carriage mode or specified compatible infant-seat adapters, and the basket capacity is 20 lb. The cited page details do not state its weight or folded dimensions, so there is not enough information here to compare those measurements directly with the Joolz models. Check adapter compatibility for the precise infant-seat model and region. UPPAbaby also lists a travel bag. UPPAbaby Minu V3 specifications and details

UPPAbaby Minu: keep the older model separate

The older Minu page says the stroller weighs just under 17 lb, has a 50 lb seat capacity, and offers a travel bag accessory. Those details should not be transferred to the Minu V3: they refer to a different model, and the older page does not establish the V3’s dimensions or weight. UPPAbaby Minu older-model details

It describes the fold as IATA-compatible and lists a bumper bar as a separate purchase. The same page says the original model is no longer available there and links to Butterfly 2, so check local availability and the specifications of the version actually offered. Will a compact stroller fit in an airplane cabin?

Do not treat a maker’s cabin-friendly or IATA-compatible language as a promise that the stroller will be accepted on every flight. Joolz states, “Luggage restrictions differ per airline,” and recommends contacting the airline if you are unsure. Cabin rules, available space, and handling can vary by carrier and trip.

  • Everyday Control - The rear wheels come equipped with dual brakes to help keep the stroller stopped when parked or paused. The Aero is sized for children 6-36 months, up to 33 lbs, making it suitable for everyday strolls and short trips.
  1. Find the exact model and generation you own, then note its folded length, width, and height from the manufacturer.
  2. Check your airline’s current policy for strollers and cabin baggage, including any size limits and whether the stroller must be gate-checked.
  3. If the policy does not clearly answer your case, ask the airline about your specific stroller and itinerary before departure.
  4. Plan a fallback: be prepared to gate-check or check the stroller if it cannot be carried into the cabin.

Which model should you shortlist?

  • Choose the Aer+ if the listed 13.2 lb weight and specified folded dimensions suit your storage and carrying needs, and your child is old enough for its seat or you will use the cot solution for a newborn.
  • Consider the Aer² if its distinct folded dimensions, one-hand fold, and cot option fit your priorities. Its listed weight is higher than the Aer+; do not assume the newer model is lighter.
  • Consider the Minu V3 if a from-birth carriage mode or compatible infant-seat setup and integrated carry strap are central to your decision. Obtain its weight and folded dimensions for the specific market before comparing physical fit.
  • Consider the older Minu only if you are evaluating that exact generation; do not use its weight or capacity as a substitute for V3 specifications.
  • Consider the Butterfly if the listed recline and basket capacity matter, while confirming which generation is currently sold in your market and checking its dimensions for your travel constraints.

Check what is included before buying

Accessory availability changes the actual travel setup and can depend on market and model generation. Joolz lists a travel pouch with the Aer+; UPPAbaby lists a Minu V3 travel bag and model-specific car-seat adapters; Bugaboo identifies the Butterfly bumper bar as separately sold. Confirm current contents, compatibility, and whether an accessory is included or extra on the exact product listing you plan to purchase.
