1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsBitdefender has the stronger current evidence for Windows protection; Comodo may suit someone seeking a free antivirus with sandbox-style controls. The comparison is not a direct lab shootout: recent independent results surfaced for Bitdefender, but no matching recent Comodo result was established. That gap is not proof that Comodo performs poorly.
What the current independent test results show
AV-TEST’s August 2026 Windows results give Bitdefender Total Security 27.0 a score of 6/6/6 for protection, performance and usability. AV-TEST awards up to six points in each category, for 18 maximum; the listed result therefore reaches the maximum. The organization says products need at least 17.5 points for its “TOP PRODUCT” award. See AV-TEST’s Bitdefender results and its August 2026 Windows 11 results and scoring guidance.

AV-Comparatives also includes Bitdefender among the top-rated products in its March 2026 Consumer Malware Protection Test. Its July/August 2026 Consumer Real-World Protection Test factsheet describes a test of 19 products using 200 malicious URLs and includes Bitdefender Total Security among the tested solutions.

These results support choosing Bitdefender if recent independent lab evidence is a priority. They do not establish how Comodo would score in the same test: the recent result pages cited here do not list Comodo, and the products were not tested head-to-head. Older comparisons that cite Comodo results from 2019 and Bitdefender results from 2021 are historical, not a current basis for ranking the products.

When Comodo may be the better fit
Comodo is worth considering if you want a free Windows antivirus and are specifically interested in controls designed to restrict or isolate unknown applications. Its official page describes Default Deny and Auto Sandbox as product features; those vendor descriptions explain the product’s approach, not independent proof of protection or performance.
Check the system requirements before installing. Comodo’s published page names Windows 10, 8 and 7, but that list alone does not confirm support for the latest Windows release or every current build. Consult Comodo’s official antivirus page and confirm the requirements for the installer you plan to use.

When Bitdefender may be the better fit
Bitdefender is the clearer choice if you want recent independent test results, coverage spanning desktop and mobile platforms, or a paid plan for several devices. The relevant evidence above is for Bitdefender Total Security, so do not assume that its specific lab score applies to every Bitdefender product or plan.

How to compare plans and costs before choosing
Bitdefender’s current US comparison page lists these first-year prices. They are comparison-page values, not a promise of the price at checkout or on renewal; the page notes that applicable sales tax may apply.
| Bitdefender plan | Coverage shown | US first-year comparison price |
|---|---|---|
| Total Security Individual | Five devices | USD 59.99 |
| Premium Security Individual | Coverage details should be confirmed on the plan page | USD 79.99 |
| Antivirus Plus | Three devices | USD 29.99 |
Compare the live offer with the renewal price, subscription term, tax and device limit for your market before paying. The Total Security plan page and Antivirus Plus page provide the vendor’s current plan information. Comodo’s official page confirms a free antivirus option, but the paid-plan prices are not established here.

- List your devices and operating systems. Check that the specific plan and current installer support them; a product family’s overall coverage does not mean every plan covers every device.
- Decide which extras matter. In particular, estimate whether a 200 MB-per-day VPN allowance fits your use or whether you need a plan with unlimited VPN traffic.
- Compare the full subscription cost. Check current checkout price, renewal amount, term, taxes and regional availability instead of relying on a first-year comparison figure.
- Weigh evidence by date and product. Prefer recent results for the exact product and version you are considering; do not treat older tests or different tiers as equivalent to current testing.
Verdict
For a Windows user who values current independent evidence, Bitdefender is the better-supported choice: Total Security 27.0 earned AV-TEST’s maximum 6/6/6 in August 2026. Comodo remains a plausible free option for someone who values its prevention-oriented and sandbox features, but recent comparable lab evidence is not available in the cited results. Choose based on your systems, device count, feature needs and current total cost—not on the evidence gap alone.
