The available evidence supports a shortlist of three documented Wi-Fi 7 routers—not a tested or objectively ranked top five. Before buying, check modem compatibility and speed support for your address and plan using Xfinity’s My Device Info guidance.
First decide whether you need a modem, a router, or both
A cable modem links your home to the provider’s cable network. A router connects your devices to one another and supplies Wi-Fi. A standalone router therefore needs a separate compatible cable modem; a gateway combines the two functions. Xfinity permits customers to use their own modem, router, or gateway, but says the equipment must work with the service and support the subscribed speed. Most modems need a separate router to provide Wi-Fi. See Xfinity’s device guidance.

If you already have an Xfinity wireless gateway, you can connect a personal router by enabling Bridge Mode. Xfinity says this disables the gateway’s routing capabilities while retaining its modem function. Only one device can connect to the gateway in Bridge Mode, and its Wi-Fi extender feature is unavailable in this configuration. Follow Xfinity’s Bridge Mode instructions for the current steps and feature details.

Three documented router options to consider
These are examples with manufacturer-documented features, not Comcast-tested winners. The right choice depends on your modem, internet plan, wired devices, Wi-Fi clients, and home layout.
#1 Best Overall
- CABLE INTERNET AND WIFI MADE FOR YOUR HOME: This two-in-one cable modem and WiFi router puts every setting in your hands, from your WiFi names and passwords to how your network runs, so it works the way your household needs.
- APPROVED FOR YOUR PROVIDER AND PLAN: Works with Xfinity internet plans up to 800Mbps, Spectrum up to 1Gbps, and Cox up to 1Gbps. Not compatible with Verizon, AT&T, CenturyLink, DirecTV, DISH, or bundled voice plans. ISP activation required after setup.
- GET THE FULL SPEED OF YOUR PLAN: DOCSIS 3.1 supports Gigabit+ cable internet plans, so large downloads finish faster and 4K streaming, gaming, and video calls can all run at once. Actual speeds vary by plan and provider.
- WIFI 6 COVERAGE FOR THE WHOLE HOME: Stay connected in every room with dual-band AX2700 WiFi 6 covering up to 2,000 sq ft and capacity for 25+ connected devices. Real-world coverage depends on home size, layout, and building materials.
- WIRED CONNECTIONS FOR YOUR FASTEST DEVICES: Four Gigabit Ethernet ports keep gaming consoles, desktops, and streaming devices hardwired for the lowest latency and the most stable connection in your home.
| Router | Documented ports and wireless features | Could suit |
|---|---|---|
| TP-Link Archer BE550 | Tri-band Wi-Fi 7; one 2.5 Gbps WAN port and four 2.5 Gbps LAN ports; EasyMesh support. | Households that need several multi-gig wired connections or want mesh capability to consider. |
| NETGEAR Nighthawk RS300 | Tri-band Wi-Fi 7; one 2.5 Gbps internet port, two 2.5 Gbps Ethernet LAN ports, and two gigabit LAN ports. The manufacturer says a separate modem with RJ45 is required. | People looking for a standalone router and who have, or plan to get, a compatible separate modem. |
| eero Pro 7 | Tri-band Wi-Fi 7; two auto-sensing 5 GbE ports; can serve as a primary router or extend an existing eero network. | People who value an eero-based system or want to expand an existing eero network. |
Those specifications come from the manufacturers: TP-Link, NETGEAR, and eero. Wi-Fi generation and port speed describe capabilities, not the speed a particular home will achieve. The eero option should not be read as having special Xfinity mesh integration.
How to choose for your Xfinity plan and home
Confirm modem compatibility and speed support
Use Xfinity’s My Device Info flow to check equipment against your address and service. Xfinity’s public device list includes models such as the NETGEAR CM3000 and ARRIS S34, but those examples do not establish that a modem is right for every address or plan. Check the current compatibility guidance and device list before purchase.
Rank #2
- DUAL-BAND WIFI 6 ROUTER: Wi-Fi 6(802.11ax) technology achieves faster speeds, greater capacity and reduced network congestion compared to the previous gen. All WiFi routers require a separate modem. Dual-Band WiFi routers do not support the 6 GHz band.
- AX1800: Enjoy smoother and more stable streaming, gaming, downloading with 1.8 Gbps total bandwidth (up to 1200 Mbps on 5 GHz and up to 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz). Performance varies by conditions, distance to devices, and obstacles such as walls.
- CONNECT MORE DEVICES: Wi-Fi 6 technology communicates more data to more devices simultaneously using revolutionary OFDMA technology
- EXTENSIVE COVERAGE: Achieve the strong, reliable WiFi coverage with Archer AX1800 as it focuses signal strength to your devices far away using Beamforming technology, 4 high-gain antennas and an advanced front-end module (FEM) chipset
- OUR CYBERSECURITY COMMITMENT: TP-Link is a signatory of the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s (CISA) Secure-by-Design pledge. This device is designed, built, and maintained, with advanced security as a core requirement.
Match ports to the modem, plan, and wired devices
Check the router’s WAN port against the modem’s Ethernet connection and your service speed. Then count the LAN ports and compare their speeds with the devices you will wire directly, such as a desktop computer, NAS, or mesh node using wired backhaul. A faster port does not increase an internet plan’s speed; a slower link elsewhere in the chain can constrain a connection.
Check Wi-Fi support and coverage needs
Wi-Fi 7 features matter only when client devices support them. Older phones, laptops, and smart-home devices can still connect, but they will not gain capabilities they do not support. Home size alone cannot predict coverage: construction, layout, router placement, and interference also matter. Consider mesh capability if you have dead zones, but treat stated coverage as a manufacturer figure rather than a guarantee for your rooms.
Rank #3
- Compatible with major cable internet providers including Xfinity and Cox. NOT compatible with Verizon, Spectrum, AT&T, CenturyLink, DSL providers, DirecTV, DISH and any bundled voice service. Best for cable provider plans up to 800Mbps.
Consider setup and ongoing support
Before choosing, review the maker’s current setup process, management options, security-update policy, and support terms. These details can change, so verify them on the product maker’s page rather than assuming that one router will be simpler or supported longer than another.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why this is a shortlist, not a ranked top five
The available product documentation establishes features for three models, but it does not provide controlled performance tests on Xfinity service or evidence for an objective ranking. There is not enough substantiated information here to name two more models as verified recommendations. Treat the options above as candidates to compare, not a universal “best” list; manufacturer wireless-rate figures are maximum specifications, not promises of real-world throughput.
