com.samsung.android.authfw is Samsung’s Authentication Framework package, associated with Samsung authentication software and, on one documented older Galaxy model, Samsung Pass. It is not identified as malware by the Samsung sources cited here. If you see it in your phone’s app list, the safest default is to leave it enabled unless you have a specific troubleshooting reason to test a change.
What is com.samsung.android.authfw?
Samsung’s Galaxy Store lists the exact package name com.samsung.android.authfw as Authentication Framework. A Samsung Knox application inventory for the Galaxy Note 10+ 5G (model N976V) labels it “Samsung Pass,” version 2.0.04.9. That inventory also lists “Samsung Pass Provider” as a separate app. The Knox entry is specific to that model and software vintage; it should not be treated as the package’s current name or version on every Galaxy device.

In practical terms, the package is part of Samsung’s authentication software. The package identifier, the display name shown in a store or app list, and the software feature it supports may not be identical labels.

Samsung’s Galaxy Store listing describes the handling of personal information, including biometric and credit card information, as encrypted and stored in a Knox-secured trusted area. These are Samsung’s product statements, not an independent security audit or a guarantee about every device configuration. The same listing says passkeys are available on devices running One UI 6.0 (Android 14) or later. That is the stated software requirement for the listing’s passkey feature, not a claim that every device meeting it has the same setup or capabilities.

Is it the same as Knox Authentication Manager?
No such equivalence is established in the Samsung documentation cited here. Knox Authentication Manager is documented as a managed Android autofill service for shared, fully managed Samsung devices. It is designed to work with a UEM or EMM and supports enterprise sign-in methods such as PIN, PIN plus face, and manual sign-in. Treat Knox Authentication Manager and com.samsung.android.authfw as separate components unless Samsung documentation for the specific device or deployment directly connects them.
Is com.samsung.android.authfw safe or malware?
Samsung’s materials identify the package as part of its authentication software; they do not identify it as malware. That does not verify an individual installation on an arbitrary device. If the package appears unexpectedly or you are unsure about its source, check its app details and update source in your phone’s settings or the Galaxy Store. Avoid installing a replacement APK from an unverified download site.

Can you disable or uninstall it?
The official Samsung material cited here does not give a universal end-user recommendation to disable or remove the package, nor does it provide a complete device-by-device list of consequences. A third-party system-app database raises the disablement question but is not a substitute for Samsung guidance. Because the package is associated with Samsung authentication software, leave it enabled unless you have a specific device-level troubleshooting need.
If you need to test a change
- First identify the device model and software version, and record the current app state.
- Use the device’s built-in app controls rather than removing system components through an unverified tool or APK.
- Test only the sign-in and authentication features relevant to the problem, and restore the app to its prior state if anything stops working as expected.
Do not assume removal will always break a particular feature: the available sources do not establish that. For a managed enterprise device, assess the change on the actual device and sign-in flows before applying a fleet-wide policy.
