Colorlib’s Progress Bar V09 is a free reading-progress template for long article pages: it places a slim bar along the bottom of a fixed header and advances the bar as the reader moves through the article. The header also shows the site name, article title and estimated minutes remaining. It is a reading indicator—not a generic bar for uploads, checkout steps or loading tasks.
What Progress Bar V09 does
V09 is designed to help readers see how far they have progressed through an article. Colorlib says its progress measurement is based on the article, rather than the entire page. That distinction matters on pages with long headers, sidebars or related-content sections: the indicator is meant to reflect reading progress through the article itself.

Colorlib describes the template as plain HTML and CSS with a small amount of vanilla JavaScript. The publisher says it needs no jQuery, Bootstrap files or plugins, and can run independently or be used in Bootstrap 4, 5 or 6 projects. Those are the publisher’s compatibility claims; they are not the result of independent testing.

Colorlib presents V09 as a self-contained snippet that can be used on its own or placed in a Bootstrap project. The template page describes scroll handling with a passive event listener and requestAnimationFrame, with the visible fill using scaleX. These are implementation details reported by the publisher, not performance benchmarks.

When adapting a progress bar for a Bootstrap page, keep its visual value and its accessible numeric value in sync. In a Bootstrap-style bar, the inner element’s width controls the visible fill, while aria-valuenow communicates the current number to assistive technology. Changing one does not automatically change the other; JavaScript that updates progress should update both.
Colorlib’s page describes V09’s implementation, but does not establish that the template has passed an accessibility audit. Do not treat the presence of a progress indicator as proof that it is accessible: check the finished page’s semantics and assistive-technology behavior in your own implementation.
Choose an indicator that matches the task
A determinate progress bar communicates a measurable fraction of a task or content journey. An indeterminate loader is more appropriate when work is happening but its completion fraction or duration is not known. Colorlib’s Bootstrap guide covers several distinct patterns:
- Reading progress: tracks a reader’s position through an article, as V09 is intended to do.
- Single-task progress: represents one measurable operation, such as a file upload or a step in a multi-step form.
- Multiple or categorized progress: uses stacked or multi-category values to show several components within a combined amount.
- Circular progress: presents measurable progress in a circular gauge rather than a linear bar.
- Indeterminate loading: signals ongoing activity when a meaningful completion percentage is unavailable.
These patterns are not interchangeable: choose based on what the number represents and whether progress can be measured, rather than on appearance alone.
