The integration and the Pro relaunch are different developments: the derivatives migration was completed on October 1, while the revived Pro platform and several features remain planned, not launched, as of Coinbase’s October 7, 2026 announcement.
What Coinbase announced—and what is already live
Coinbase’s October 7, 2026 announcement says the Deribit integration is complete and describes the combined global derivatives platform as Coinbase Global Exchange. Coinbase Help says the transition of Coinbase International Exchange and Deribit was completed on October 1, 2026. The name refers to the combined platform; it does not mean every customer now uses the same account or trading interface.

Coinbase separately says Coinbase Pro is coming back at the end of 2026 as a professional-grade platform for spot, futures, perpetuals, options and equities. That is a company-announced plan, not a product launch: Coinbase has not supplied a precise launch date or explained how the new Pro will relate to existing Coinbase Advanced accounts. Coinbase’s announcement is the source for the planned return and instrument list.

Retail perpetual traders
Coinbase says retail perpetual trading continues through Coinbase.com or the Coinbase app, including Coinbase Advanced. The infrastructure transition happened automatically; retail users were not instructed to move their Coinbase accounts. This guidance concerns retail perpetual traders, not institutional International Exchange accounts.

Institutional International Exchange clients
Coinbase says International Exchange institutional accounts, positions and balances migrated to Deribit by Coinbase on October 1. The transition involved cancelling open perpetual orders, settling positions at mark price, transferring resulting balances and recreating positions at the settlement price. Institutions should check their account-specific instructions and current API documentation: Coinbase flags API endpoint changes, margin-mode choices and differences in historical reporting. Coinbase’s institutional FAQ covers operational details.
Existing Deribit clients and Prime clients
According to Coinbase Help, existing Deribit clients keep Deribit as their home account and gain access to Coinbase spot markets and additional perpetual contracts. Coinbase says Prime relationships are unchanged; it expects eligible US Prime clients to gain crypto options in Q4 2026. That timing is an expectation, not confirmation that options are available now. Coinbase Help’s integration page describes these customer groups and the stated rollout.

What happened to open positions and trade history?
For retail perpetual traders whose positions were transitioned, Coinbase says it settled positions at mark price and recreated them at the settlement price to preserve the economic position. It says no trading or settlement fees were charged for the transition. The resulting records may look different from a normal trade history: users may see multiple trade entries, a reset average entry price or a temporary small variation in displayed profit and loss.
Institutional customers had a separate migration, including cancellation and recreation of open orders and positions. Because Coinbase also identifies API and reporting changes for those clients, they should not assume that retail account guidance or historical views apply to their institutional setup.

Are options, spot margin and unified portfolios available?
Not universally, based on Coinbase’s statements available on October 7, 2026. Coinbase says options, spot margin and unified portfolios will roll out in the coming weeks. Its Help page describes options as coming for eligible Coinbase users, with eligible US Prime clients expected to get them in Q4. These are forward-looking statements, and access may depend on eligibility and jurisdiction; the announcements do not establish that every Coinbase customer can use these features today.
What Coinbase’s scale figures do—and do not—show
Coinbase’s October 7 announcement says the integrated platform gives access to more than $30 billion in Bitcoin options open interest as of September 30, 2026, and describes more than $1 trillion in trading volume last year. These are company-published figures, not independently audited measures in the cited announcement. Coinbase’s separate 2025 acquisition announcement reported Deribit July 2025 volume above $185 billion and platform open interest of approximately $60 billion at that time; those earlier figures describe a different snapshot and should not be combined with the September 2026 number. Coinbase’s acquisition announcement provides the earlier figures.

Risk, eligibility and what remains unclear
Derivatives are not simply another spot-trading screen: Coinbase warns that derivatives trading can cause substantial losses, including losses greater than the funds deposited. The Deribit by Coinbase institutional application is for eligible non-US institutions in select jurisdictions; Coinbase says US institutions cannot use that specific access route. Availability should therefore be checked against the relevant product, account type and jurisdiction rather than inferred from the integration announcement. See Coinbase’s Deribit account onboarding guidance.

The year-end Pro announcement does not establish the relaunched product’s fees, exact order-entry or API workflow, account model, jurisdiction coverage, or whether it will resemble the retired Coinbase Pro interface. Nor does the announcement settle how Coinbase Advanced accounts will interact with it. Until Coinbase publishes those details and confirms launch, comparisons with the old Pro experience should treat continuity as unknown.
