CodeGuard to Xcitium: Backup Migration Guide and FAQ

Download important CodeGuard archives before access ends, then check your provider’s Xcitium setup and confirm completed backups for every site.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

If your hosting provider is replacing CodeGuard with Xcitium Backup, download any historical CodeGuard archives you need before the old service expires. Then check your provider account to see which websites were configured automatically, recreate missing settings, and verify that new backups have completed. The transition date, setup process, and archive access depend on your provider and account type.

What should I do before CodeGuard expires?

  1. Check your account’s actual renewal or deactivation date. HostGator directs customers to its Renewal Center; Bluehost directs customers to the renewal section of its account manager. Use the date and notice shown for your account rather than another provider’s schedule. HostGator’s transition FAQ and Bluehost’s FAQ describe different provider-specific timelines.
  2. Identify the history you need to keep. Check the websites and databases in CodeGuard and decide which historical backups matter. Download those archives before the service expires, then save the copies somewhere you control.
  3. Keep the downloaded archives separate from Xcitium. Do not assume old CodeGuard files will appear in the new service. Bluehost explicitly says existing CodeGuard backup files are not automatically moved to Xcitium Backup. The cited provider guidance does not establish that downloaded archives can be imported into Xcitium.

A local copy is useful even if the new service is already provisioned. An external drive is one possible place to store downloaded archives; the provider instructions do not specify a required capacity or model.

What happens to my existing backups in CodeGuard?

Access after expiration is provider-specific. HostGator says expired CodeGuard archives are permanently removed, while Bluehost warns that they may no longer be accessible. Treat the old account’s end date as a deadline: download anything you may need before it passes. These statements apply to the respective providers’ guidance, not necessarily every CodeGuard account.

For accounts covered by Network Solutions’ documentation, its CodeGuard instructions describe downloading a full backup or selected files as a ZIP archive through the CodeGuard account workflow. Its guidance says Xcitium is available seven days before renewal for the cohort it covers. Follow the current instructions in your own provider portal if the menus or eligibility differ. Will my CodeGuard settings and websites carry over?

Do not count on schedules, preferences, or custom configurations transferring. HostGator and Bluehost both tell customers to configure settings again; Bluehost specifically says current settings and custom configurations are not automatically copied to Xcitium.

Automatic setup also depends on the provider and account type:

Provider or account situation What its guidance says What to check
HostGator Migration is described as occurring at the next renewal. The primary website is set up automatically; additional websites require setup. Confirm every additional site is configured, not just the primary one. HostGator FAQ
Bluehost WordPress hosting The FAQ describes WordPress hosting as set up automatically. Sign in and verify the expected websites and completed backups. Bluehost FAQ

Network Solutions accounts covered by its Xcitium guides The documented download and restore workflows apply to CodeGuard and Xcitium customers renewed on or after May 15, 2026; the service is described as available seven days before renewal. These provider notices cover different customer groups and products. They are not universal migration rules. In particular, Bluehost’s July 14, 2026 new-order date and July 28, 2026 standalone CodeGuard deactivation date have passed. Check your current order, renewal status, and backup access in your account instead of treating those dates as a current cutoff for every customer.

How do I confirm Xcitium is backing up the right sites?

  1. Sign in to the Xcitium dashboard or the account manager provided by your host.
  2. Review the website and database list against the sites you intended to protect.
  3. Recreate any missing site setup, backup schedule, preference, or custom configuration.
  4. Open the backup history for each expected site and check that a backup has completed. HostGator specifically recommends confirming backups are running after renewal.

A site appearing in the account is not the same as confirming a completed backup. Check the history and status shown for each site rather than relying only on an automatic setup notice.

How do I download an Xcitium backup?

Network Solutions’ Xcitium download guide documents the following workflow for accounts it covers. Exact labels and availability may differ in another provider’s portal. Network Solutions: download a backup site file in Xcitium Backup

  1. Open Website Backups.
  2. Manage the relevant Xcitium backup and review its backup history.
  3. Check that the backup you want is marked complete, then select its date.
  4. Choose whether to download the full backup, selected files or folders, or a database file.
  5. Save the downloaded file in a safe location and make sure you can identify which site and backup date it belongs to.

For an older CodeGuard archive, Network Solutions’ guide describes a full backup or selected-file download as a ZIP through the CodeGuard account workflow. Use it while the relevant CodeGuard access is still available. Network Solutions: download a backup as a ZIP file in CodeGuard

How do I restore a backup without overwriting the wrong content?

Network Solutions documents three Xcitium restore scopes: a full file restore, a selected file or folder restore, and a database restore. Its workflow asks the customer to acknowledge that existing files or the database will be overwritten. Before submitting, verify both the backup date and what the restore will replace. • Full file restore: use when the intended recovery requires restoring the broader file set; confirm the backup date and overwrite warning.
  • Selected files or folders: use when only particular content needs recovery; confirm the selection before proceeding.
  • Database restore: verify the database and backup date carefully because existing database content will be overwritten.

These are documented Network Solutions workflows, not a guarantee that every Xcitium portal uses the same labels or restore options.

Can I continue using CodeGuard instead of switching?

That depends on the provider’s policy for your specific account. The cited HostGator FAQ describes migration at the next renewal, while Bluehost’s FAQ gives its own order and deactivation dates and differentiates WordPress hosting from standalone backup orders. Neither policy should be assumed to govern a different host. Check your provider’s notice or contact its support team if you need to know whether CodeGuard access can continue.

What does CodeGuard’s backup history contain?

CodeGuard describes an initial file backup over FTP or SFTP, followed by differential backups that transfer changed or added files and record deletions. Its FAQ also describes file restoration and MySQL and MS-SQL database backup capabilities. These are descriptions of CodeGuard; they do not establish that Xcitium uses the same backup mechanics or automatically inherits CodeGuard history. CodeGuard FAQ
