If your server is with another provider, confirm that the connection method, package availability, storage limit, and price apply to your account before buying.
What CodeGuard does for a server-hosted site
CodeGuard describes its VPS and dedicated-server offer as a hosted service for daily website and database backups, change monitoring, and recovery. It stores the selected website content in encrypted storage. After the first backup, website backups are differential: CodeGuard checks file metadata and transfers files that are new or changed, while recording deletions in its repository.

For monitoring, CodeGuard says it checks for files added, modified, or deleted and sends a ChangeAlert email when it detects a change. This is a change notification, not evidence that a change is malicious or that malware has been removed. The server page also lists optional two-factor authentication and login IP logging; confirm which security features are included with the package you are considering. The server-specific plans are presented for HostGator VPS and dedicated customers, not as universal prices or packages for every hosting provider. CodeGuard’s general FAQ describes technical prerequisites that may help you assess a different server, but compatibility and commercial availability still need confirmation with CodeGuard or your host.

- Website files: You need FTP or SFTP credentials that let CodeGuard access the files you want backed up.
- Database: The FAQ identifies MySQL or MS-SQL as supported and says the database must be reachable. For the HostGator server offer, CodeGuard describes direct MySQL credentials or a connection tunneled over SSH.
- Firewall and remote access: Check whether your server permits the necessary database connection and whether your firewall can allowlist the IP addresses CodeGuard currently specifies. Confirm the live allowlist with CodeGuard before changing firewall rules; the addresses are operationally sensitive and may change.
- Website platform: CodeGuard’s FAQ names WordPress, Joomla, Drupal, and Magento as examples. The key stated access requirements are still FTP/SFTP and supported database connectivity. CodeGuard FAQ
Before subscribing, ask your host or administrator to verify remote database access, SSH tunneling availability, and firewall policy. Do not assume that having root or control-panel access alone satisfies the connection requirements.
How backups and restores work
Initial and ongoing website backups
CodeGuard says it retrieves the selected files for the initial backup over FTP or SFTP. For later website backups, it checks metadata and transfers new or changed files rather than recopying every file. Deleted files are noted in its repository. The frequency described for the server packages is daily, although settings may affect ongoing backups.

Database backups
Website-file and database backups are separate parts of the setup. CodeGuard describes connecting to the database directly with MySQL credentials or through an SSH tunnel. It compares the database with its recent version and replaces the stored version when it detects changes; the page says daily backups continue automatically unless settings are changed. Make sure database access is configured as well as FTP/SFTP before treating a site as fully covered.

The server page describes three recovery routes: download a ZIP archive and restore it manually, select individual files to restore, or request an automatic restore of all content. CodeGuard’s FAQ says it checks the live site and then pushes or pulls differences during restoration. That is the vendor’s description of the process, not a measured recovery-time promise or a guarantee that a particular recovery point will meet your needs. The reviewed product pages do not provide independent restore-test results or a restoration-speed service-level guarantee.

If recovery matters to your business, establish who will initiate a restore, how you will verify files and database contents afterward, and whether your own team can use the archive route if needed. A backup plan is more useful when the people responsible for the site understand the available recovery path.

They are vendor-listed offers, not independently verified checkout prices; reconfirm package names, limits, features, and availability before purchase. The page says these server packages include unlimited websites and databases, daily backup and monitoring, client access and reporting, and advanced security, with monthly billing. “Unlimited” site or database counts do not remove the listed storage cap, so check whether your expected backup set and retained history fit within it. The page’s claims do not establish every checkout, renewal, or cancellation term.
How server packages differ from CodeGuard’s general plans
CodeGuard also publishes a separate general plan comparison. Its prices are monthly equivalents when billed annually, and should not be combined with the HostGator server-page prices above.

The general comparison lists retention choices of 30, 60, 90 days, or infinite history. The server-specific FAQ describes 90-day or entire-history options. Confirm which retention setting applies to the exact package: retention affects how much backup history you keep and can matter when estimating whether a storage cap is sufficient. - Provider and eligibility: Is the offer available for your host and server tier, or is it specific to HostGator customers?
- Connectivity: Can CodeGuard reach your files by FTP/SFTP and your database by the supported direct or SSH-tunneled method? Can your firewall permit the required access?
- Coverage and storage: What content will be selected, how large is the backup set, and does the package cap leave room for retained history?
- Retention: Which history setting comes with the offer, and can you keep the period your recovery needs require?
- Restore process: Are archive download, file-level recovery, and automatic restoration available in your package, and who will operate them?
- Included features and terms: Confirm monitoring, security features, current monthly charge, trial eligibility, renewal, and cancellation at checkout. CodeGuard’s FAQ states that current plans include a 14-day free trial, but that alone does not establish that the trial applies to the HostGator server-specific packages.
