Cloudinary can capture public web pages through its URL2PNG add-on, then deliver the resulting screenshot through its image pipeline and CDN. It is a fit to consider if you already use Cloudinary transformations; it is not a one-click feature of every Cloudinary account. You need to register for the add-on, construct a delivery URL, and, by default, sign the URL or eagerly generate the transformation to guard against unplanned requests and costs.
How Cloudinary website screenshots work
Cloudinary’s URL2PNG Website Screenshots add-on generates an image from a public website URL. The documented workflow uses a Cloudinary delivery URL with the url2png delivery type and the target page URL as the asset identifier. The documented capture controls include viewport, user agent, and delay; the documentation also includes full-page behavior. These options let you request different capture contexts, but they do not guarantee that every page will render as expected. Before relying on the output, check the page state, access requirements, consent banners, fonts, animation, and browser rendering on the sites that matter to your workflow.

What setup and security does it require?
- Create or use a Cloudinary account. URL2PNG is an add-on, so an account alone does not establish that screenshot generation is enabled.
- Register the URL2PNG add-on. Check the add-on’s available quota and current price in the Cloudinary Add-ons console.
- Build the delivery URL. The documented pattern uses the
url2pngdelivery type and the public page URL as the asset identifier. Add the documented capture options you need, such as viewport, user agent, or delay. - Protect requests. By default, URL2PNG transformation URLs must be signed or eagerly generated. Cloudinary documents a Console security setting that allows unsigned add-on transformations; check your account’s setting before exposing generated URLs publicly.
Signing or eager generation is a cost-control measure: without it, unplanned public requests could trigger add-on usage. If your integration requires publicly accessible unsigned transformations, review the implications in Cloudinary’s transformation delivery types and flags reference and confirm the security configuration for your account.
Cloudinary screenshot limits and pricing
Cloudinary’s Add-ons console listed these URL2PNG monthly tiers when accessed on October 3, 2026. Treat them as the console’s current listing at that date, not a permanent price guarantee; check the console before choosing a plan or buying additional capacity.

These add-on quotas are separate from the Cloudinary account’s base-plan credits. Cloudinary’s billing documentation, updated July 21, 2026, states that its Free plan includes 25 credits per month for transformations, storage, and bandwidth; those credits are not a URL2PNG screenshot allowance. Screenshot quality: what the controls can and cannot tell you
After capture, Cloudinary’s image controls can affect compression and file size. Its documentation describes automatic quality selection with q_auto and a numeric quality value from 1 to 100. Lower quality generally means more compression and smaller output files, with a possible loss of visual detail. For screenshots, inspect the result at its intended display size rather than judging only the file size. In particular, verify:
- Text legibility: small labels and body copy should remain readable.
- Fine interface detail: icons, borders, and subtle states can be lost through compression.
- Crop and dimensions: confirm that the chosen viewport or full-page behavior includes the content you need.
- File size: compare the delivered size against the fidelity required for the use case.
The published controls explain how to request captures and optimize images, but they do not establish consistent visual fidelity across different websites. Test representative pages and states before building a production workflow around an assumed output quality.

Is Cloudinary easy to use for website screenshots?
It depends on your existing setup and comfort with URL or SDK integrations. The flow is relatively direct if Cloudinary is already part of your image pipeline: request a screenshot, then use Cloudinary’s delivery and transformation capabilities. The work is more involved if you are starting from scratch, because you must create an account, register the add-on, construct the URL, and handle the default signing or eager-generation protection.
Cloudinary’s documentation describes the integration steps, but it does not demonstrate user satisfaction or prove how reliable or easy the workflow feels in practice. Those points require a hands-on evaluation with your target pages, account configuration, and expected request volume.

When the add-on may fit—and when to test alternatives
- Consider it if you want website captures to enter an existing Cloudinary image-delivery and transformation workflow.
- Check carefully if you need public unsigned URLs, because the default protection and your security configuration affect how requests are exposed.
- Test before committing if your pages depend on dynamic state, restricted access, consent handling, custom fonts, or animation.
- Compare total usage costs by accounting for both the separate screenshot quota and your base Cloudinary credits.
