Clockify’s Android app lets you start and stop a timer from your phone, add time you did not track live, and categorize entries with a project or description. Clockify says mobile tracking can continue without a connection and sync once the device reconnects. What the app can do on the free plan, and which features need a paid plan or the browser version, depends on Clockify’s current plan terms, so those points are covered below with the checks to run before you rely on them.
What you can do from the Android app
The core workflow is a running timer. Clockify’s Android app page describes the sequence below. Button and menu labels can change between app versions, so match the wording to what your installed version shows.

- Create a Clockify account, then install the app from Google Play.
- Tap the play control when work begins.
- To pick up earlier work, continue a previous activity rather than typing it again.
- Add a description or project details while the timer runs or after you stop it.
- Stop the timer. The entry is saved to your time log.
Beyond the timer itself, the Android page documents several shortcuts that reduce how often you need to open the full app:
- Widgets for starting a new entry or a previous one from the home screen.
- Notifications that let you manage a running timer without opening the app.
- Calendar views of logged time.
- Reports broken down by day and by project.
Live timer or manual entry
A live timer captures an interval as it happens. A manual entry records a period after the fact. Clockify’s documentation supports both, and the two suit different situations.

| Question | Live timer | Manual entry |
|---|---|---|
| Best for | Work you are doing now | Time you forgot to track, or corrections |
| How it is created | Play control, or continuing a previous activity | Create an entry and set its duration, or its start and end time; the timesheet is also described as a route |
| What the record shows | The start and stop of an active interval | The duration or times the user typed in |
| Independent verification | Not described; Clockify presents this as a logging workflow | Not described; accuracy depends on the person entering the time |
| Location capture | Only where the paid GPS feature is used for team timers (see below) | Not stated |
The practical difference is accountability. A timer records when you pressed start and stop. A manual entry is only as accurate as the person writing it, so teams that rely on hours for billing or payroll should set their own rules for when corrections are allowed.
Offline tracking and sync
Clockify states that mobile users can track time while offline and that entries sync automatically after the device reconnects. Its timer feature page says the same for phone and computer: time is tracked offline and synced online later.
In practical terms, the phone holds the entry until it can reach Clockify’s servers. Clockify’s documentation does not describe how conflicts are handled if the same entry is edited on two devices while offline, how long unsynced data is kept on the device, or what happens if the app is uninstalled before sync. Treat offline use as dependable for normal logging, and check any edit-heavy workflow with a test entry first.

What still needs the web app
Clockify presents the phone as one part of a cross-device system. Its mobile features page says some functions are mobile-specific, while dashboard and team-management functions are web-only. The browser version is where Clockify describes more extensive reporting and team administration.
| Area | Android app | Browser version |
|---|---|---|
| Start, stop and edit a timer | Yes, per the Android page | Yes |
| Home-screen widgets, notification controls | Yes | Not applicable |
| Day and project reports | Yes, as documented on the Android page | Described as the place for more extensive reports |
| Dashboard and team management | Not described as available; Clockify lists these as web-only | Yes |
Do not assume the two surfaces match feature for feature. If a team lead needs a specific report or admin control, confirm it in the browser before planning around the phone.
Free plan and paid features on Android
Clockify’s mobile features page says the Android and iOS apps can be used on the free plan. The same page describes limits on free-plan use and says paid features can be tried for seven days. Those limits and trial terms are the most likely details to change, so check Clockify’s live plan page before you choose a plan.

Other paid boundaries named in Clockify’s documentation:
- Kiosk clock-ins are described as a paid feature in the getting-started guide.
- Approvals require the Pro plan or higher, according to the same guide.
- GPS tracking is listed on Clockify’s paid features page.
The app’s availability on the free plan does not mean every team workflow is free. A team that needs approvals or kiosk clock-ins should price those features before rolling out the app.

Before turning it on, consider three practical points. The app needs location permission on the phone. Workers should be told what is recorded and when. And the feature only applies to timer start and stop events in the app, so it does not describe continuous location tracking. Clockify’s documentation does not give further detail on how location data is stored or how long it is kept, so check the current privacy terms and your local workplace rules.
Shared-device kiosk clock-ins
A kiosk is a different use case from a personal timer. It is a shared device, such as a tablet at a site entrance, where workers clock in and out. Clockify’s kiosk guide describes PIN and QR workflows, along with other authentication options. The kiosk needs an internet connection and runs on a shared device rather than a worker’s own Android phone.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
If your team uses a shared station, set it up separately from individual phone accounts. The personal timer workflow described above does not need a kiosk, and a kiosk does not replace individual timers for people who log time from their own devices.
Choosing a workflow
- Individual, desk or mobile work: use the Android timer, with manual entry for corrections. Check the browser version for reports or admin tasks.
- Field team that must show where work started: consider the paid GPS feature, after reviewing location permissions and workplace privacy rules.
- Shared site or entrance: set up a kiosk on a shared device, and confirm the paid plan that includes it.
- Approval-based timesheets: confirm that your plan includes approvals before relying on them.
