Pi says third-party harness usage draws from extra usage and is billed per token. Before connecting an account, distinguish that route from Claude Code credentials, a local Claude Code bridge, and API credits claimed through Claude Console.
Does Pi use your Claude plan limits?
No, not according to Pi’s provider documentation. It says that when you use Claude through a third-party harness such as Pi, usage draws from extra usage and is billed per token, rather than counting against Claude plan limits. Pi’s provider guide also documents Claude Pro/Max login through /login, with credentials stored in ~/.pi/agent/auth.json and refreshed when expired.

So a Claude subscription login can provide an authentication route, but it is not evidence that Pi requests are covered by the ordinary usage allowance of that subscription. Check whether extra usage is enabled, what spending controls are available, and how usage appears in your account. Start with a small, controlled use and check account usage and invoices before relying on the setup.

What the different Claude billing terms mean
“Claude subscription,” “Claude Code,” “Claude Agent SDK,” and “Anthropic API/Console” describe different products or access routes; they are not interchangeable billing labels. Anthropic says Claude.ai paid plans and Console API usage are separate, and a Claude subscription does not include API usage through Console. See its Claude subscription and Console billing explanation.
#1 Best Overall
- POWERFUL SECURITY KEY: The Security Key C NFC is the essential physical passkey for protecting your digital life from phishing attacks. It ensures only you can access your accounts.
- WORKS WITH 1000+ ACCOUNTS: Compatible with Google, Microsoft, and Apple. A single Security Key C NFC secures 100 of your favorite accounts, including email, password managers, and more.
- FAST & CONVENIENT LOGIN: Plug in your Security Key C NFC via USB-C and tap it, or tap it against your phone (NFC) to authenticate. No batteries, no internet connection, and no extra fees required.
- TRUSTED PASSKEY TECHNOLOGY: Uses the latest passkey standards (FIDO2/WebAuthn & FIDO U2F) but does not support One-Time Passwords. For complex needs, check out the YubiKey 5 Series.
- BUILT TO LAST: Made from tough, waterproof, and crush-resistant materials. Manufactured in Sweden and programmed in the USA with the highest security standards.
Anthropic’s help page, updated October 7, 2026, says the Agent SDK monthly credit announced in June is no longer available. It separately says Claude Max and Team plans now include monthly API credits for the Agent SDK, Claude API, and Claude Managed Agents. Users claim those credits into a Claude Console organization and use an API key from that organization. This is a Console/API route, not proof that a Pi subscription-login plugin uses those credits. See Anthropic’s Agent SDK and Claude plan guidance.
Ways to connect Pi and Claude
These approaches differ in where credentials are held, what software runs, and which billing route is involved. A package’s description is its maintainer’s claim, not independent verification or Anthropic certification.

- POWERFUL SECURITY KEY: The YubiKey 5 NFC is the most versatile physical passkey, protecting your digital life from phishing attacks. It ensures only you can access your accounts
- WORKS WITH 1000+ ACCOUNTS: Compatible with popular accounts like Google, Microsoft, and Apple. A single YubiKey 5 NFC secures 100+ of your favorite accounts, including email, password managers, and more
- FAST & CONVENIENT LOGIN: Plug in your YubiKey 5 NFC via USB and tap it, or tap it against your phone (NFC), to authenticate. No batteries, no internet connection, and no extra fees required
- MOST SECURE PASSKEY: Supports FIDO2/WebAuthn, FIDO U2F, Yubico OTP, OATH-TOTP/HOTP, Smart card (PIV), and OpenPGP. That means it’s versatile, working almost anywhere you need it
- PRIMARY & SPARE KEYS: Just like having a spare house key, we recommend buying two YubiKeys - one for daily use and one as a spare. That way you’ll never get locked out of your accounts
| Route | What is documented | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Pi’s Claude Pro/Max provider login | Pi documents subscription authentication and says third-party harness usage is billed per token from extra usage, not plan limits. | Whether extra usage is enabled, the available spending controls, and how charges appear. |
| Credential-reading extension | The pi-claude-auth listing says it reads Claude Code credentials and seeds them into Pi’s authentication file. | Whether you trust the package with account credentials, how it handles refreshes, and what its code can do. |
| Claude CLI bridge extension | The pi-claude-code-provider listing says it invokes an installed Claude executable in non-interactive print mode. | Whether the local CLI and extension meet their listed version and plan requirements, and whether the process fits your workflow. |
| Anthropic Console/API | Console API billing is separate from Claude.ai plans. Anthropic’s October 7, 2026 update describes monthly API credits for eligible Max and Team users, claimed into Console and used with an API key. | Whether your plan qualifies, whether you claimed the credit, and whether your Pi integration actually sends requests using that Console API key. |
What to check before installing an extension
A credential-reading extension and a CLI bridge do not have the same trust boundary. The former may handle sensitive Claude Code credentials; the latter launches local software and passes work through that executable. Pi’s package listings warn that packages can execute code and affect agent behavior, so treat installation as granting meaningful access—not as a harmless model setting.
Recommended Free Tools
- Inspect the package source, maintainer information, permissions, and update history before installing it.
- Understand which credentials it can read and where they are stored or refreshed.
- For a CLI bridge, check the installed Claude executable and the extension’s current compatibility requirements.
- After a limited trial, verify the actual account usage and billing route rather than inferring it from a package description.
Is third-party Pi use approved by Anthropic?
The official materials cited here do not name these Pi packages or explicitly decide whether each one is authorized. Anthropic’s August 28, 2025 consumer-terms announcement says the updated terms apply to Free, Pro, and Max, including Claude Code from accounts associated with those plans. That scope does not establish blanket approval for third-party harnesses or extensions. Anthropic’s Claude Code setup documentation distinguishes Console billing, Claude App Pro/Max authentication, and enterprise platforms, but does not resolve the status of every Pi integration.

Accordingly, neither a categorical approval nor a categorical ban for every Pi extension is established here. If the workflow affects a work account, significant spending, or important operations, check the current terms with Anthropic and your organization’s administrator before relying on it. Provider behavior, package requirements, and billing rules can change.
