As of AWS’s September 29, 2026 announcement, Claude Opus 5, Claude Sonnet 5 and Claude Haiku 4.5 are available on Amazon Bedrock with an India geographic cross-Region inference profile. That profile can route requests between AWS’s Mumbai (ap-south-1) and Hyderabad (ap-south-2) Regions, keeping processing within India—but not necessarily in one fixed Region.
Which Claude models are available with India in-country inference?
AWS named three models in its September 29, 2026 launch announcement: Claude Opus 5, Claude Sonnet 5 and Claude Haiku 4.5. AWS says customers in India can access them while processing data in India Regions. See AWS’s announcement for the launch details.

Does Claude inference stay in India?
With the India geographic inference profile, AWS says routing can occur between Mumbai (ap-south-1) and Hyderabad (ap-south-2). Prompts and results may move between those two Regions, but remain within India. This is an India-boundary option, not a guarantee that an individual request will be processed only in Mumbai or only in Hyderabad. AWS explains how cross-Region inference routes requests in its technical launch article.

How does India routing differ from global cross-Region inference?
The key difference is the geographic boundary. AWS’s India geographic profile routes within India; global cross-Region inference can use commercial AWS Regions worldwide. The model set also differs by announcement: AWS’s March 2026 post described global cross-Region inference for Claude Opus 4.6, Sonnet 4.6 and Haiku 4.5, while its September India launch named Opus 5, Sonnet 5 and Haiku 4.5.
| Option | Routing boundary | Models named in the cited announcement |
|---|---|---|
| India geographic profile | Mumbai (ap-south-1) and Hyderabad (ap-south-2), within India | Opus 5, Sonnet 5 and Haiku 4.5 (AWS, September 29, 2026) |
| Global cross-Region inference | Commercial AWS Regions worldwide | Opus 4.6, Sonnet 4.6 and Haiku 4.5 (AWS, March 2026) |
These are the models identified in those dated announcements, not a complete statement of current availability. AWS’s March 2026 post describes the global option. If a locality requirement applies, verify that your application uses the intended inference profile; selecting an API by name alone does not establish the routing boundary.

How can customers access the models?
AWS lists the Anthropic Messages API, Amazon Bedrock InvokeModel API and Converse API as access paths for the September launch. The API is the interface for sending requests; the inference profile and runtime configuration determine the geographic routing behavior. Check current Bedrock model, Region and endpoint availability before implementing a particular configuration.

Anthropic announced in October 2025 that it planned to expand operations in India and open a Bengaluru office in early 2026. That company-presence update is background only: it does not establish where Bedrock processes requests or which models are available. For those questions, AWS’s launch announcement and routing documentation are the relevant sources. Anthropic’s announcement is available here.
