HONOR says it can help you frame selfies with the main camera, show call alerts and display media information and controls. In South Africa, Stuff reported a launch recommended retail price of R2,499 and nationwide availability from 7 October 2026; that is dated launch pricing, not a live retailer quote.
What does the HONOR X5d s rear screen do?
The rear display measures 2.01 inches and has a listed resolution of 240 × 296. HONOR describes the feature as a “Rear-Display Touch Experience” and promotes “One-Tap Selfie”: use the rear camera while viewing yourself on the smaller screen to frame a selfie. HONOR also describes call alerts and media playback information with interaction controls as uses for the rear display. These are manufacturer-described functions; the published material does not establish how well they work across apps or in everyday use.

The rear screen is a secondary interface, not a second full-size display. Its documented role is to support selected tasks such as selfie framing and viewing some alerts or media controls. The main screen is a 6.78-inch LCD with a listed resolution of 720 × 1576 and typical brightness of 600 nits. HONOR’s overview contains mixed refresh-rate wording: its headline says 90Hz while a note says up to 120Hz. The specification page does not provide a refresh-rate field, so confirm the current local listing rather than treating either number as settled.

Battery capacity and charging
HONOR lists a 6000mAh typical battery capacity and a 5850mAh rated capacity, with 15W wired charging. It says the standard 15W adapter is market-dependent. HONOR’s specification page explains: “This capacity is the nominal battery capacity. The actual battery capacity for each individual phone may be slightly above or below the nominal battery capacity.”

The South African specification listing names a 64GB storage configuration and “8(4+4)GB” memory. HONOR’s overview clarifies that the phone has 4GB of physical RAM and uses RAM Turbo to provide an additional 4GB of virtual or expanded memory. That distinction matters when comparing it with phones that have 8GB of physical RAM.

The handset also has a side fingerprint sensor, USB-C 2.0, a 3.5mm audio jack, Bluetooth 5.0, dual nano-SIM support and 4G LTE.

Who should consider the HONOR X5d s?
The rear display is the clearest distinguishing feature in the published information: it offers a manufacturer-described way to frame rear-camera selfies and view selected alerts or media controls. The listing also identifies a 4G platform, Android 16 Go edition, 64GB storage and a large-capacity battery with 15W charging. Whether that combination suits you depends on current local pricing and your needs; the listed figures do not establish real-world speed, camera quality or battery endurance. No exact-market competing model is substantiated here for a reliable head-to-head comparison.
