Claude Code Mods: What Six Plugins Do and How to Install Them

Hamza Zafar’s six highlighted Claude Code mods add context visibility, review monitoring, destructive-action prompts, Markdown preview, music controls, and agent activity tracking. Here’s what each does and how to install one.

“Mods” in Hamza Zafar’s Claude Code article are plugins, not a separate extension format: Claude Code’s documentation describes a mod as a plugin with a JavaScript hooks module. Zafar’s October 6, 2026 account highlights six plugins he says he uses every day. They add visibility, review monitoring, a safety prompt, Markdown preview, music controls, or a view of agent activity—choose only the ones that fit your workflow.

What “mods” means in Claude Code

Claude Code plugins package components in a directory that can be installed and loaded as a unit. A plugin may contain skills, agents, hooks, MCP servers, or other components. The official Claude Code Plugins overview uses “mod” for a plugin with a JavaScript hooks module. These are Claude Code plugins, not IDE extensions or plugins for claude.ai or Cowork.

Zafar’s phrase “20 mods” refers to the count in his October 6, 2026 article, not an independently verified measure of the repository’s present size. The repository’s catalog is broader and can change; the six below are the author’s highlighted selection, not the full catalog.

What the six highlighted mods do

Mod What it adds Best fit
context-bar A colored display of context categories—including the system prompt, tools, MCP, skills, and messages—and an indicator for where auto-compaction starts. People who want a quick view of what is occupying Claude Code’s context.
review-watch A monitor for background code reviews, showing the model, review target, elapsed time, and latest output, with a toast when a review finishes. Zafar says he uses Codex as a second reviewer. People who run reviews in the background and want to follow their progress.
blast-radius A confirmation gate for potentially destructive actions such as recursive deletion, force pushes, and database migrations. It presents projected impact and Cancel or Proceed options; if there is no response within 60 seconds, it cancels. People who want an extra pause before certain high-impact actions.
md-preview A Markdown preview pane beside the chat, with before-and-after viewing. People who edit Markdown and want to inspect the rendered result alongside the conversation.
now-playing Spotify track progress and lyrics, plus playback controls. People who want music information and controls visible in their Claude Code workflow. The repository documents macOS and Spotify as requirements.
mission-control A view of subagents, tool calls, and files they read or write. People coordinating agent work who want to see activity as it happens. The repository documents Chrome and an image-capable terminal for its code view.

The descriptions above reflect what the article and repository say the mods do; they are not independent performance evaluations. The repository also documents other categories, including context and usage displays, workflow aids, integrations, and opt-in diversions. Check its current README for the complete, changing catalog and each mod’s requirements.

How to install a mod

Zafar’s article gives this marketplace installation sequence for context-bar:

claude plugin marketplace add hamzafer/claude-code-mods
claude plugin install context-bar@claude-code-mods
  1. In a terminal, run claude plugin marketplace add hamzafer/claude-code-mods to add the repository’s marketplace.
  2. Run claude plugin install context-bar@claude-code-mods to install that plugin. Substitute another mod’s documented install target if you want a different one; the README also describes installing a general-purpose set.
  3. Restart Claude Code after installation, as the article recommends, then check that the selected plugin’s functions are available.

The article specifies Claude Code 2.1.287 or newer. Treat that as the version requirement reported in that article, and check the current README for updated compatibility information before installing. Marketplace commands are one route: Anthropic’s plugin documentation also explains that plugins can be loaded from a local folder.

How to choose—and what the evidence does not establish

Start with the friction you want to remove: context-bar and mission-control expose activity; review-watch follows background reviews; blast-radius adds a decision point for selected risky actions; md-preview helps inspect Markdown; now-playing adds a media integration. You do not need the whole collection to use any one of those workflows.

  • Check the repository’s current instructions for extra dependencies and platform restrictions before installing an integration.
  • The repository is described as MIT licensed. That describes the repository’s software license; it does not establish that Claude Code or connected third-party services are free.
  • Zafar’s claim that he uses these tools daily is a personal workflow account. The article supplies no independent productivity measurements or performance statistics, so it does not show that the mods make coding faster or safer in general.
