Cisco completed its acquisition of Montreal-based network assurance company Accedian on September 29, 2023. The deal added Accedian’s network and user-experience monitoring technology to Cisco’s portfolio for communications service providers and webscalers; it was not a consumer hardware acquisition. The purchase price was not disclosed.

When did Cisco acquire Accedian?

Cisco announced its intent to acquire Accedian on June 21, 2023, then completed the transaction on September 29, 2023. Seller Bridge Growth Partners confirmed the completed sale on October 2, 2023.

Cisco described Accedian as a privately held company based in Montreal, Quebec, focused on virtualized network assurance and performance monitoring. Canada’s Investment Canada Act index also lists Cisco’s acquisition notification and names Accedian Networks Inc. and Accedian Canada Software Inc. entities in Quebec and Ontario, with activities covering network-monitoring, performance and optimization equipment and software, and software development.

What did Accedian do, and why did Cisco buy it?

Accedian’s technology monitored network and user experience across applications, clouds and networks. Cisco said the acquisition would strengthen network assurance and analytics for communications service providers (CSPs) and webscalers, combining Accedian’s service-assurance technology with Cisco ThousandEyes capabilities.

Cisco highlighted Accedian’s “microsecond level” sensors as a way to provide fine-grained visibility into network performance. That is Cisco’s description of the technology, not an independently validated performance benchmark. In its sale announcement, Bridge Growth Partners described Accedian Skylight as providing end-to-end visibility across multi-layer, multi-cloud and multi-vendor networks, with cloud-native analytics supporting services based on 5G, SD-WAN and edge technologies.

How much did Cisco pay for Accedian?

The transaction price was not disclosed. Bridge Growth Partners stated in its October 2, 2023 sale announcement that “Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.” No purchase-price figure is established by the cited official announcements.

What happened to Accedian Skylight after the acquisition?

Accedian’s product brand transitioned to Cisco Provider Connectivity Assurance after the deal. A Cisco employee account said the products were added to Cisco’s Global Price List and buying programs. Cisco’s support series page now calls the product family Cisco Crosswork Assurance and identifies it as formerly Cisco Provider Connectivity Assurance (Accedian Skylight).

The series page marks Cisco Crosswork Assurance “Available” and lists product materials including data sheets and installation guides for 1G and 10G sensor modules. It also lists a March 5, 2026 end-of-sale/end-of-life announcement specifically for Cisco Provider Connectivity Assurance Sensor Capture; that notice applies to the named Sensor Capture product, not the entire Crosswork Assurance family.

What should existing Accedian customers do?

At the time of the September 2023 close, Cisco said existing customers should continue using the support process they already used for installed Accedian products and that Cisco would notify them before any support-process changes. Because that instruction dates from the acquisition announcement, customers should use Cisco’s current support materials for present-day service and support directions.
