The Honda Odyssey is projected to hold its value better than the Chrysler Pacifica. Kelley Blue Book’s 2025 and 2026 trim-level forecasts both show lower five-year depreciation and a higher projected residual value for the Odyssey EX-L than for the Pacifica Select. iSeeCars’ model-level comparison points in the same direction. These are forecasts, not guaranteed sale prices: your minivan’s trim, mileage, condition, location, selling method and market timing can materially change the result.
The short answer: Odyssey wins the published five-year comparisons
Across the currently available comparisons, the Honda Odyssey has the stronger projected resale position. Kelley Blue Book (KBB) reaches that conclusion in two consecutive model-year estimates, while iSeeCars reports substantially lower model-level depreciation for the Odyssey.

The most important qualification is that the KBB examples are not identical trims. They compare a Chrysler Pacifica Select with a Honda Odyssey EX-L, so the dollar differences illustrate the direction of the estimates rather than proving that every Odyssey trim will outperform every Pacifica trim.

What the 2026 KBB estimates actually say
Pacifica Select versus Odyssey EX-L
For the 2026 model year, KBB projects that a Chrysler Pacifica Select will lose $28,473 over five years and retain $17,967 at the end of that period. The corresponding Honda Odyssey EX-L estimate is $20,620 in depreciation and a $23,625 residual value.
On those particular examples, the Odyssey’s projected depreciation is $7,853 lower. Its projected residual is $5,658 higher. Those are large enough gaps to matter when comparing otherwise similar purchase decisions, but they should not be interpreted as a guaranteed check you will receive when you sell.

KBB’s previous model-year estimates also favor the Odyssey, although the gap is narrower. A 2025 Pacifica Select is projected to depreciate $25,611 and retain $18,834 after five years. A 2025 Odyssey EX-L is projected to depreciate $23,567 and retain $20,103.
That produces a $2,044 lower depreciation estimate and a $1,269 higher residual estimate for the Odyssey EX-L in this second comparison. Seeing the same direction for 2025 and 2026 is stronger evidence than relying on one isolated forecast, but it still does not establish that every production year, trim or local market will behave identically.

How the independent iSeeCars comparison differs
iSeeCars reports five-year depreciation of 54.7% for the Chrysler Pacifica and 43.4% for the Honda Odyssey. It describes the Odyssey’s advantage as 11.3 percentage points of retained value.

Because those percentages are presented at the model level, they aggregate vehicles rather than matching a Pacifica Select to an Odyssey EX-L with the same equipment and transaction assumptions. They are useful as a directional cross-check: a second source also finds that the Odyssey typically gives up less value over five years. They are not a conversion of KBB’s dollar forecasts, and the figures do not have a publication year identified on the comparison page. Depreciation, residual value and retained percentage are different measurements
Five-year depreciation in dollars
Depreciation is the estimated amount of value a vehicle loses during the stated ownership period. A larger dollar figure means more value has disappeared between the assumed starting point and the five-year endpoint. Dollar depreciation is useful when two vehicles have similar transaction prices, but it can mislead when one starts substantially more expensive than the other.
Residual value
A residual value is the estimated value remaining at the end of the forecast period. KBB’s 2026 examples put the Odyssey EX-L’s residual above the Pacifica Select’s. A higher residual can reduce the economic cost of ownership, especially for an owner who expects to sell or trade around the five-year mark.
Percentage depreciation or retention
Percentages normalize the comparison across different starting prices. iSeeCars’ 54.7% Pacifica and 43.4% Odyssey depreciation figures imply that the Odyssey retains a larger share of its original value in that model-level dataset. A percentage is not automatically better than a dollar figure: use both, and make sure the vehicles being compared have similar equipment, incentives and purchase prices.
Why forecasts cannot predict your exact sale price
KBB says its residual values are statistical projections developed from millions of transactions. Its methodology describes vehicles in average condition with 75,000 miles at the end of a five-year lease or ownership period. The forecast therefore represents a standardized vehicle, not your specific minivan.

KBB also identifies supply and demand, broader market conditions, vehicle availability and consumer interest as influences on resale value. Its 2026 announcement summarizes the assumption this way: “Residual values reflect projected future auction values for vehicles in average condition with 75,000 miles at the end of a five-year lease or ownership period.”
In practice, an individual result can move above or below a published estimate because of:
- Trim and equipment: Select and EX-L are different configurations, and options that are desirable in your area can affect listings and bids.
- Purchase price: A discount paid at purchase changes your personal return even if the vehicle’s future market value is unchanged.
- Mileage: Driving substantially more or less than the 75,000-mile assumption changes the vehicle’s market position.
- Condition and history: Accident records, paint and interior wear, maintenance documentation, tire condition and mechanical problems influence offers.
- Location: Demand, climate, local inventory and regional preferences vary by market.
- Transaction route: A dealer trade-in, wholesale auction result and private-party sale do not produce the same price.
- Timing: Interest rates, fuel prices, incentives on new vehicles and sudden changes in used-car supply can shift values before you sell.
What the 2026 segment award does—and does not—mean
The Odyssey’s advantage over the Pacifica should not be confused with being the resale-value leader among all minivans. KBB named the Toyota Sienna the 2026 Best Resale Value minivan. That award places the Pacifica-versus-Odyssey result in context: the Odyssey looks stronger than the Pacifica in the cited comparisons, but neither should automatically be described as the category’s top resale performer.

Rheia Szymczyk, KBB’s senior manager of valuation and analysis operations, said: “Toyota and Lexus continue to reign supreme with top average residual values, meaning their vehicles are projected to retain more of their original MSRP over the first five years of ownership in comparison to other mainstream and luxury brand averages, respectively.” The statement is brand-level context and does not change the Pacifica-versus-Odyssey trim estimates.

How to apply the comparison to a new-vehicle purchase
1. Compare the exact trims you would actually buy
Start with the window sticker or a written dealer quote for each vehicle. Do not compare a heavily discounted base trim with a higher-priced, optioned model and then attribute the entire price difference to resale strength. The published KBB examples are Select versus EX-L, so repeat the calculation for the trims, packages and drivetrain choices on your shortlist.

2. Record your real transaction price
Use the amount you actually pay after negotiated discounts and manufacturer incentives, while keeping taxes, registration and financing costs separate. Depreciation estimates describe vehicle value; they do not tell you how much interest you will pay or how much tax you owe.
3. Choose a realistic ownership horizon
A five-year forecast is most relevant if you expect to keep the minivan for about five years. Selling after two years, keeping it for ten years or leasing it changes the point at which depreciation matters. A vehicle can have a favorable five-year residual and still be a poor match if your ownership period is much shorter or longer.
4. Estimate your likely mileage
Compare your expected annual driving with the 75,000-mile, five-year assumption used in KBB’s methodology. If your household drives 20,000 miles per year, the forecast is not a direct description of the vehicle you will sell. If you drive far less, your mileage may support a stronger offer, provided condition and maintenance are also good.
5. Calculate your ownership cost, not only the resale winner
A simple worksheet can show the decision clearly:
- Write down the actual purchase price for each minivan.
- Subtract the resale estimate appropriate to your model year, trim, mileage and condition.
- Add predictable ownership costs that differ between the vehicles, such as insurance, maintenance, fuel and financing.
- Divide the resulting ownership cost by the months you expect to keep the vehicle.
The Odyssey’s stronger projected residual is an important input, but it should not override a large purchase-price difference or a configuration that does not meet your family’s needs.

Check the vehicle, not just the nameplate
For a used minivan, condition and history can outweigh the average difference between two model-level forecasts. Verify the vehicle identification number, title status, accident and service history, odometer reading and recall completion. Inspect sliding-door operation, climate controls, seats, infotainment, tires, brakes and warning lights before relying on a valuation.
Separate trade-in and private-party expectations
A dealer’s trade-in offer includes the dealer’s reconditioning, inventory and profit considerations. A private-party sale may produce a higher gross price but requires advertising, screening buyers, arranging inspections and handling payment safely. When comparing the Pacifica and Odyssey, use the same sale method for both estimates.
Use a local valuation for the final decision
KBB’s model pages include local pricing and valuation tools. Enter the exact year, trim, mileage, equipment, ZIP code and condition rather than using a generic model average. Refresh the estimate close to the time you plan to buy or sell because resale forecasts can change as supply, incentives and used-vehicle demand move.
Common mistakes when comparing Pacifica and Odyssey resale value
- Treating different trims as identical: The 2026 KBB comparison is Pacifica Select versus Odyssey EX-L, not a same-equipment test.
- Calling a forecast a guarantee: A residual value is a projection based on assumptions, not a binding offer.
- Mixing model-level and trim-level data: iSeeCars’ percentages and KBB’s dollar figures answer related but different questions.
- Ignoring the purchase discount: Your personal depreciation is measured from what you paid, while published estimates may use standardized market inputs.
- Using the wrong mileage assumption: A 75,000-mile five-year benchmark does not describe a 40,000-mile or 120,000-mile vehicle equally well.
- Comparing a trade-in to a private sale: Different transaction routes naturally produce different gross values.
- Assuming the category winner is one of these two models: KBB’s 2026 minivan resale award went to the Toyota Sienna.
- Relying on an old estimate: The figures cited here were available on October 13, 2026; volatile forecasts should be checked again before a purchase or sale.
Decision guide: which one makes more financial sense?
Choose the Odyssey when resale protection is a priority
If the two vehicles meet your space, comfort, safety and feature requirements and their negotiated prices are close, the published evidence supports choosing the Odyssey for a stronger expected five-year value position. Both KBB model-year comparisons and the iSeeCars model-level analysis favor it.
Choose the Pacifica when the purchase advantage is substantial
A large discount, a lower-cost configuration or a better fit for your needs can offset a weaker resale forecast. Compare your expected net ownership cost rather than assuming the vehicle with the higher residual is automatically cheaper to own.

If one quote includes dealer add-ons, a different equipment level, an unusually high trade-in allowance or a temporary incentive, normalize those items first. A clean comparison requires the same purchase-price definition, ownership period, mileage assumption and sale method.
Bottom line for Pacifica versus Odyssey resale value
The Honda Odyssey is the better-supported choice for holding value in the available five-year evidence. KBB’s 2026 examples show the Odyssey EX-L with $20,620 of projected depreciation and a $23,625 residual, versus $28,473 and $17,967 for the Pacifica Select. KBB’s 2025 estimates point the same way, and iSeeCars reports 43.4% five-year depreciation for the Odyssey compared with 54.7% for the Pacifica.
Use those figures as planning benchmarks, not promises. Match the trims, use your actual transaction price, adjust for mileage and condition, and obtain a local valuation before treating the forecast as your expected sale proceeds.
