ChromeOS 132 brings a visible UI polish on Chromebook Plus: window corners are now rounded consistently across the system experience. If you’ve been watching window chrome change over time, this is the kind of detail you notice immediately after an update.

This guide breaks down what the change affects, how to confirm you’re actually seeing it on your device, and what to do if it looks like nothing changed.

What ChromeOS 132 changes on Chromebook Plus

On Chromebook Plus models receiving ChromeOS 132, the OS applies rounded corners to window frames rather than keeping a sharper, more rectangular edge style. The goal is a more unified visual language across apps, system panes, and snapping/splitting behaviors.

Because ChromeOS UI updates often roll out via staged channels, the effect may appear for some users first even when they’re on the same “major” version. The most reliable verification is checking your exact build number and then observing multiple window types.

Why rounded corners matter (practical effects)

Rounded corners aren’t just cosmetic. They affect how windows feel, how focus states read at a glance, and how content boundaries align with modern display expectations.

  • Faster visual scanning: rounded edges help the eye distinguish window chrome from page content.
  • Consistency across UI surfaces: apps and system dialogs tend to look closer to the same design system.
  • Better perceived quality on high-density screens: on Chromebook Plus hardware, finer UI styling is more noticeable and typically more “premium.”

Prerequisites and compatibility checks

Before you assume the update didn’t work, confirm you have the right device and the right build.

Device requirement: Chromebook Plus

This window-corner behavior is called out for Chromebook Plus. Non-Plus Chromebooks may receive related styling changes at different times, but not necessarily in the same way or release window.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

OS requirement: ChromeOS 132

You need to be on ChromeOS 132.x. The “132” label is the main reference, but build sub-versions (the “.x” part) can affect feature rollout.

Channel and rollout timing

ChromeOS commonly uses staged rollouts. Two people on “ChromeOS 132” can still see different UI behavior until rollout flags fully apply.

How to verify rounded corners on your Chromebook Plus

Use a repeatable checklist so you’re not relying on memory from the last time you opened a window.

Check your ChromeOS version

  1. Click the time in the bottom-right shelf.
  2. Open Settings.
  3. Go to About ChromeOS.
  4. Find the Version number and confirm it starts with 132.

If you see 131 or 130, you’re not on the build that introduced this change yet.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Identify which windows now round

After you confirm version 132, open multiple window types and compare their corner styling.

  1. Open a regular app window (for example, a browser window).
  2. Open a settings pane (Settings app or a sub-page).
  3. Trigger a dialog or sheet (where applicable) and note the window boundary corners.
  4. Switch to Split screen and snap a window to a side, then check the corner shape again.

You should see rounded corners on the window frame where the OS draws the outer boundary.

Compare against a prior build

If you still have a quick way to compare (for example, a second Chromebook on an older build), open the same app layout on both devices and look at the window edges. The ChromeOS 132 change is easiest to verify by comparing sharp vs rounded outer boundaries.

Where you’ll notice it most

The effect tends to show up where ChromeOS draws a distinct window boundary and where the frame is most visually prominent.

App windows and resizable panes

App windows that can be resized (or that display content within a framed surface) are the best place to notice corner rounding.

System UI surfaces

System panes—including certain settings pages and overlays—often use the updated frame styling, so the corners should look consistent with app windows.

Split screen and snap layouts

When you snap or split a window, the frame can change size and position, which makes it easier to confirm the rounding behavior isn’t just a single-screen artifact.

Can you disable rounded corners?

ChromeOS generally treats window corner styling as part of the system UI theme. That means there may not be a direct “disable” toggle for every user.

Official user settings

On most builds, there isn’t a standard setting like “Window corners: rounded/square.” Check Settings → any appearance-related options if present on your device, but don’t assume it exists.

Chrome flags (only if available)

Some UI experiments are exposed via Chrome flags. If a related flag exists for your environment, you might be able to adjust it, but there’s no guarantee for stable builds or managed devices.

  1. Open Chrome (the browser).
  2. In the address bar, enter chrome://flags.
  3. Use search and look for any flag mentioning window corners, rounding, or UI shape.
  4. If you find a relevant flag, change it, then Restart ChromeOS when prompted (Chrome flags sometimes restart only Chrome, not the entire system UI).

If you don’t find any relevant flags, that’s a strong sign the rounding behavior is not user-configurable on your build.

Enterprise policies and managed devices

If your Chromebook Plus is work- or school-managed, the device owner may control UI experiments. In that case, even if a flag appears, policy can prevent changes from taking effect.

Troubleshooting when corners don’t round

If you’re on ChromeOS 132 but don’t see rounded corners, treat it like a rollout/settings problem first and a regression second.

Restart and refresh UI processes

  1. Restart your Chromebook.
  2. After reboot, open a few framed windows again (app window, settings pane, and a snapped layout).

Short UI hiccups can happen during updates, especially when graphical shell components haven’t fully reinitialized.

Update to the latest ChromeOS build

Even within “132,” there can be follow-up patches. Open Settings → About ChromeOS and check for Updates.

Go for the newest 132.x you can get. If the UI change depends on a feature flag, it may only fully land in later 132.x increments.

Check hardware acceleration and graphics settings

Graphics-related issues can alter UI rendering.

  1. In Chrome, go to chrome://settings/system.
  2. Confirm Use hardware acceleration when available is enabled.
  3. Restart Chrome and test window corners again.

If you’ve previously changed system graphics toggles, revert them to the default and retest.

Reset display scaling and resolution

Occasionally, display scaling can affect how frames are drawn and anti-aliased.

  1. Open Settings → Device → Displays.
  2. Set Display size to the default suggested value.
  3. Verify resolution matches the recommended setting.
  4. Test rounded corners again in a snapped window.

Test in guest mode

User profiles can hold customizations. To isolate that:

  1. Sign out.
  2. Start Guest browsing (or a new test profile if available).
  3. On the guest session, open app windows and check corner rounding.

If corners round in guest mode, your primary profile likely has a customization or extension interaction.

Report a bug with reproducible steps

If the update is supposed to apply and it doesn’t, reporting is the fastest path to a fix.

  • Capture the exact version (About ChromeOS shows 132.x.y).
  • Note the device model (the Chromebook Plus name).
  • Provide steps like: open browser window → snap left → observe corner shape.

Use ChromeOS’s built-in feedback tooling if available in your build so logs attach automatically.

Comparison: ChromeOS 132 vs earlier window styling

Before ChromeOS 132, window corners were typically sharper or less uniformly rounded depending on the window type and the UI framework used for that surface.

ChromeOS 132’s update is best characterized as “consistent corner rounding across framed surfaces,” which means you’ll see less variation between apps and system windows after upgrading.

Edge cases: what to expect with accessibility and customizations

High contrast and reduced motion

Accessibility settings can change visual styling and emphasis. If you use High contrast or similar modes, the corner rounding may be less visually prominent, but the overall shape behavior should remain.

External monitors and different aspect ratios

When you attach a monitor or run different scaling, corner rendering may vary slightly due to display pipeline differences. Always validate on the primary display and then re-test on the external screen.

Accessibility zoom and large text

Zoom can scale UI elements and anti-aliasing. If corners look “soft” or slightly different at extreme zoom levels, that’s often a scaling artifact rather than a missing feature.

FAQs

I’m on ChromeOS 132 but I don’t see rounded corners. What should I do first?

Verify the exact build in About ChromeOS (it should start with 132). Then restart your Chromebook and check for the latest 132.x update in Settings → About ChromeOS → Updates.

Does this apply to all Chromebooks or only Chromebook Plus?

The change is specifically called out for Chromebook Plus. Other models may receive similar styling later or differently, but don’t assume identical behavior across non-Plus hardware.

Can I force rounded corners with a setting?

There’s usually no guaranteed official toggle. If a related Chrome flag exists in your environment, you can try it, but managed devices and staged rollouts may prevent or delay the effect.

Will this affect window usability or touch targets?

No—rounded corners change the visual frame, not the fundamental hit targets for controls. If you notice interaction problems after updating, it’s more likely a display/scaling or graphics rendering issue.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

How can I confirm the UI update is fully applied?

Test at least three surfaces: a resizable app window, a settings pane, and a snapped/split layout. Consistency across these is the strongest sign the ChromeOS 132 window styling update is active.

Bottom Line

ChromeOS 132 rounds window corners on Chromebook Plus to deliver more consistent, modern window chrome across apps and system surfaces. The change is easy to spot when you compare window frames—especially in snap and split-screen layouts.

If you don’t see it, confirm you’re on 132.x, update again within 132, and troubleshoot rendering/display factors. With a clean reboot and the latest sub-build, the rounded corner styling should typically show up where window frames are drawn.
