There is no single Chromecast or Firestick specification to compare: both names cover multiple devices. For a useful 2026 comparison, distinguish Chromecast with Google TV from Google TV Streamer (4K), and compare Fire TV Stick models by generation. Your best fit depends on the exact model, the apps available where you live, and whether you value casting, Alexa access, storage, or particular picture and audio formats.
Which devices are being compared?
Google’s current comparison page lists Chromecast with Google TV alongside the Google TV Streamer (4K). Amazon’s Fire TV portal lists Fire TV Stick 4K Select and Fire TV Stick 4K Max; Amazon says its Vega OS begins with the 4K Select and will be used on future Fire TV Sticks. These are product families, not interchangeable names for one fixed set of hardware. Check the device name and generation on the listing before relying on a specification.

Picture and audio depend on the whole setup
Google lists up to 4K resolution, HDR10+ and Dolby Vision for the Google devices in its comparison. That does not mean every title will use those formats: the streaming device, television, content, and any connected audio equipment must support the format you want. Amazon’s specifications vary by Fire TV model, so use the exact generation’s listing rather than assuming all Firesticks have the same HDR or audio support.

- The Google TV Streamer (4K) delivers your favorite entertainment quickly, easily, and personalized to you[1,2]
- HDMI 2.1 cable required (sold separately)

If picture quality is your deciding factor, check three things on the exact device and content service: supported resolution and HDR formats, the formats supported by your television, and whether the title is offered in those formats. For sound, include any receiver or soundbar in the compatibility check.
Apps and regional availability
Do not choose by a claim that one platform has “all apps.” Amazon describes broad access to major content providers, but the cited official material does not establish universal availability or identical catalogs in every country. App support can depend on both your region and the exact device. Before buying, confirm that the services your household uses are available for that model in your country.

Casting, voice control, and smart-home use
Choose around how you control the TV
Google’s comparison explicitly lists casting for Chromecast with Google TV and Google TV Streamer. Amazon describes Alexa access for Fire TV Stick 4K Select. If you routinely cast from a phone or tablet, Google’s listed casting support is relevant; if Alexa access matters to your household, check the exact Fire TV model’s listing. The cited sources do not establish a complete, generation-by-generation comparison of remote functions or smart-home integrations.
Match the device to the services you already use
Platform fit may matter more than a modest hardware difference. Make a short list of the services and control features you actually use, then verify them on the exact model and in your region. Avoid inferring support on one generation from a feature listed for another.

Storage and connectivity: what the numbers tell you
The published capacities differ across the named models: Google lists 8 GB storage and 2 GB memory for Chromecast with Google TV, and 32 GB storage and 4 GB memory for Google TV Streamer (4K). Amazon lists 16 GB storage and Wi-Fi 6E for Fire TV Stick 4K Max (2nd Gen). These are model specifications, not a direct measure of app availability or streaming quality. The cited Amazon portal does not state the 4K Select’s storage or memory, and the cited pages do not provide a consistent connectivity comparison across every device.

Price and availability are local questions
The cited official sources do not provide a consistent current price comparison across these devices, and availability can vary by country and listing. Amazon calls the Fire TV Stick 4K Select “our most affordable 4K streaming stick yet”; that is Amazon’s marketing description, not an independently verified comparison of local prices. Compare the current price and exact model in your market before making a value judgment.

How to choose
- Identify the exact model and generation. Do not treat “Chromecast” or “Firestick” as a complete product name.
- Confirm your must-have apps in your country. Check the exact model’s local app availability rather than assuming catalog parity.
- Check your TV and audio equipment. Match the device’s supported formats to the formats your television, content, and sound system can use.
- Choose the control ecosystem you will use. Consider Google-listed casting or Alexa access on the Fire TV Stick 4K Select, along with the household’s preferred controls.
- Compare local listings. Verify model, generation, price, and availability together; the cited sources do not establish a like-for-like current price ranking.
