Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFor the simplest built-in full-page screenshot on Windows, Edge has the more direct documented workflow: press Ctrl+Shift+S, then choose Capture full page. Chrome can capture a full page too, but its documented route uses DevTools: Ctrl+Shift+I, then Ctrl+Shift+P, search for “screenshot,” and select Capture full size screenshot. The Chrome steps come from a Google Chrome Help Community discussion, not an official Chrome feature specification.
Which browser should you use?
Choose Edge if you want an easy-to-find browser interface for capturing a whole page or just a selected area. Choose Chrome if you are already working in DevTools and are comfortable invoking its command menu. Both workflows are built into the browser; you do not need to buy an accessory or capture utility for this basic task.

| Need | Microsoft Edge | Google Chrome |
|---|---|---|
| Capture the whole webpage | Press Ctrl+Shift+S and choose Capture full page. | Open DevTools and its command menu, then choose Capture full size screenshot using the community-documented workflow. |
| Capture only part of the page | Microsoft describes a selected-area capture option. | The cited Chrome community instructions cover full-size capture; they do not establish the comparable area-capture workflow. |
| Mark up or share | Microsoft says captures can be marked up, copied, or saved. | The cited instructions describe saving the capture; they do not establish markup options. |
| Approachability | A direct shortcut opens the screenshot tool, with a full-page choice. | Requires opening DevTools and using its command menu. |
Take a full-page screenshot in Microsoft Edge
- Open the webpage in Edge.
- Press Ctrl+Shift+S to open Screenshot/Web Capture.
- Choose Capture full page. To capture only part of the page, use the selected-area option instead.
- Review the result. Use the available markup, copy, or save actions if needed.
Microsoft’s Edge feature guidance describes capturing an entire page or a selected area, then marking up, copying, or saving the capture: Edge Screenshot feature.

Take a full-page screenshot in Google Chrome
- Open the webpage in Chrome.
- Press Ctrl+Shift+I to open DevTools.
- Press Ctrl+Shift+P to open the DevTools command menu.
- Type screenshot and select Capture full size screenshot.
These steps are described in a Google Chrome Help Community discussion. The original question was posted March 6, 2025; treat the workflow as community guidance rather than an official Google feature specification.
Why Windows Snipping Tool is different
Pressing the Windows logo key + Shift+S opens the Windows Snipping Tool capture overlay. That is an operating-system screen-capture workflow, not the same documented operation as capturing all webpage content below the browser viewport. See Microsoft’s Snipping Tool instructions.

Chrome’s official shortcut reference lists Ctrl+P to open print options. Printing or saving a page as PDF can be useful when you need a document, but a PDF is a different output from a screenshot. See Chrome keyboard shortcuts.

The shortcut does not open the expected tool
Check that the browser window is active and that you are using the browser-specific shortcut: Edge uses Ctrl+Shift+S; Chrome’s DevTools method begins with Ctrl+Shift+I. The Windows Snipping Tool shortcut is separate and opens an OS-level capture overlay.

The page capture looks incomplete or different than expected
Page loading can be dynamic, and the cited sources do not specify behavior for every site or establish a maximum page length. Confirm the page has finished loading before capturing. If a page depends on content that appears only after scrolling or interaction, the documented instructions alone do not guarantee how that content will appear in the result.
You need a document, not an image
Use the browser’s print options if a PDF is the desired artifact. Do not treat printing as a full-page screenshot: it produces a document rather than an image capture.
