Chrome on Googlebook OS Still Lacks Chrome’s Multiple-Profile Switching

Chrome on Googlebook OS does not currently support multiple Chrome profiles. Here’s what that means, how it differs from Chromebook user switching, and what workaround was reported.

As of Android Authority’s October 6, 2026 report, Chrome on Googlebook OS does not support switching among multiple browser profiles. That means you cannot use its stable Chrome browser to keep separate work and personal profiles in the way Chrome’s profile controls allow on other platforms. The report says reviewers saw the limitation on ASUS Googlebook 14 review units; Google has not announced when support might arrive.

What is missing in Chrome on Googlebook OS?

Chrome browser profiles provide separate browser identities that can be switched within the browser. Android Authority reported that Chrome on Googlebook OS currently lacks that multiple-profile feature. Its reviewers, Hadlee Simons and Paul Jones, tested ASUS Googlebook 14 review units: tapping Chrome’s profile control led to account settings rather than a profile switcher, and the menu did not offer a profile-switch option. Android Authority’s October 6, 2026 report also quotes Googler Mishaal Rahman: “Specifically for Chrome on Googlebook OS, it does not currently support multiple profiles, but I’ll pass this feature request on to the team!”

This is a report of the feature’s status at that time, not a claim that every Googlebook model or future software version has been independently checked.

Why this is different from switching users on a Chromebook

ChromeOS offers a related feature at the operating-system level: multiple people can sign in to a Chromebook and switch between their accounts without signing out. Google also documents moving windows between accounts. This is not the same thing as multiple profiles inside one Chrome browser, even though it can help people keep separate user sessions on a Chromebook.

In Google’s documented Chromebook flow, up to five users can be added, subject to workplace or school restrictions. Some settings are shared, while bookmarks and profile pictures are specific to each user. See Google’s instructions for signing in multiple people at the same time.

What the iPhone and iPad comparison establishes

Google’s Chrome help for iPhone and iPad describes syncing browsing history and tabs to a Google Account when the History and Tabs options are enabled in Chrome settings. It also covers access to saved information across devices signed in to the same account. That is evidence of account-based continuity, not documentation that iOS Chrome handles profile switching in exactly the same way as Chrome on other platforms. Google’s guidance is at Get your bookmarks, passwords, and more on all your devices.

Does Googlebook OS’s foundation explain the gap?

Google describes Googlebook OS as based on the Android technology stack, with desktop foundations from ChromeOS. Its developer documentation also lists differences for Chrome extensions, including unavailable native messaging, unsupported ChromeOS-only APIs, and keyboard shortcuts that follow Linux rules. Those specifics show that Googlebook OS and ChromeOS are not interchangeable development environments; the documentation does not identify a cause for Chrome’s missing profile feature. See Google’s Googlebook OS extension guidance, last updated October 5, 2026 UTC.

Can Chrome Beta or Canary act as a second profile?

Android Authority’s report describes using separate Chrome release channels, such as Beta or Canary, with different accounts as a workaround. This is a reported alternative, not built-in profile management in stable Chrome. It does not establish that the channels provide the same profile controls or separation as Chrome’s normal profile feature, and the report does not independently establish how well this arrangement suits every user.

Is multiple-profile support coming?

Rahman’s quoted response says he would pass the feature request to the team, but it is not a commitment or release schedule. The cited sources provide no date for adding multiple-profile support to Chrome on Googlebook OS.
