Update Chrome now. Google’s Chrome 155 release, announced October 13, 2026, contains 37 security fixes, including a critical ANGLE buffer-overflow vulnerability. Install the build for your operating system, restart the browser, and verify the version. Microsoft Edge had not yet published the corresponding Chromium security update at the time of reporting, so Edge users should install it as soon as Microsoft makes the patched build available.
What Chrome 155 fixes
Google says Chrome Stable 155.0.8059.79/.80 for Windows and Mac, and 155.0.8059.79 for Linux, includes 37 security fixes. The release was announced on October 13, 2026, with deployment continuing over the following days and weeks.

The most serious issue identified in the release notice is CVE-2026-110152, a critical buffer overflow in ANGLE, the graphics translation layer used by Chromium-based browsers. A critical classification means users should treat the update as urgent; it does not mean that every one of the 37 flaws is known to be exploitable in the wild.

Google’s release count applies to this Chrome release. It should not be treated as a confirmed count for Edge until Microsoft publishes an advisory or release note identifying the matching fixes.

Seeing a lower number immediately does not necessarily indicate a failed update: Google rolls the release out in stages. The browser’s update screen is the authoritative check for the device in front of you.
How to install the Chrome update
- Open Chrome and select the three-dot menu in the upper-right corner.
- Choose Help, then About Google Chrome. You can also enter
chrome://settings/helpin the address bar. - Allow Chrome to check for and download the available Stable update. If the update is already installed, the page will show the current version.
- Select Relaunch when prompted. The security fixes are not fully active until Chrome restarts.
- Return to the About page and confirm that the installed version is 155.0.8059.79 or 155.0.8059.80, depending on your operating system.
Save open work before relaunching. If the update check reports that Chrome is managed by an administrator, an organization’s policy may control the timing; contact the administrator rather than bypassing that policy.

Why Edge is on a different schedule
Edge is also Chromium-based, but Microsoft ships its own browser builds, advisories and staged deployment. The contemporaneous report found that Edge had not yet shipped the corresponding update when Chrome 155 became available. That timing difference does not establish that Edge is permanently vulnerable or that it lacks every protection present in Chrome; it means Microsoft’s matching release had not been published at that point.

Edge versions use Microsoft’s numbering scheme, so Chrome’s 155.0.8059.79/.80 cannot be used as an Edge version check.

Microsoft also says Stable Channel updates roll out progressively over one or more days and that Edge has completed its move to a two-week update cadence. As a result, a security fix can appear first in Chromium or Chrome and later in an independently tested and distributed Edge build.
What Edge users should do
- Open Edge and select the three-dot menu.
- Go to Help and feedback, then About Microsoft Edge, or enter
edge://settings/help. - Let Edge check for an update and install any build Microsoft offers.
- Choose Restart when prompted, then revisit the About page to verify the installed version.
If Edge reports that it is current while the corresponding Microsoft security advisory is still pending, keep automatic updates enabled and check again later. Do not infer from Chrome’s 37-fix figure that Edge has received all 37 fixes.

Is Chrome safe after the 37-fix update?
An updated and restarted Chrome is protected by the fixes included in build 155.0.8059.79/.80, including the correction for the listed critical ANGLE issue. No browser update makes a device universally safe: malicious extensions, outdated operating systems, compromised websites and stolen credentials remain separate risks. Keep the operating system and extensions updated, remove extensions you do not recognize, and avoid running an old browser profile after Chrome says a restart is required.

Chrome users should open the About page, install Stable 155 and restart today. The release contains 37 security fixes and identifies CVE-2026-110152 as a critical ANGLE buffer overflow. Edge users should not copy Chrome’s version number or assume the same fix count; Microsoft follows a separate two-week cadence and progressive rollout. Check Edge’s About page and apply the corresponding Microsoft release immediately when it appears.
