What the KEF XIO is
The XIO is KEF’s flagship Dolby Atmos soundbar and uses a 5.1.2 layout. It has 12 drive units, dedicated Class D amplification and KEF’s Velocity Control Technology. Immersion without a component stack
Dolby Atmos processing and the 5.1.2 driver arrangement can create height and surround cues from a single enclosure. That is useful in apartments, open-plan rooms or any setup where running speaker cables and finding space for a subwoofer and rear channels is impractical. It is still virtualised or reflected surround sound from one bar, not the same physical coverage as speakers placed around the seating position.
Substantial hardware
At 7 x 121 x 17 cm and 10.5 kg, the XIO is larger and heavier than typical mass-market bars. Wall-mounted depth is listed as 7 cm. Measure the television stand, wall anchors and cable routes before buying; its size is part of the acoustic design, not a cosmetic detail.

HDMI 2.1 eARC is the preferred connection for a modern television because it can carry lossless, high-bandwidth TV audio back to the bar. Optical remains useful for older sets, while Bluetooth and network music options make the XIO more than a screen accessory. What Hi-Fi? lists the XIO at £1,999 / $2,500 / AU$3,600 in 2026. Those are region-specific comparison prices, not a guarantee of current retail stock or sale pricing. The guide compares it with the Focal Mu-so Hekla at £3,000 / $3,600 / around AU$5,695, which puts the KEF below that rival but still firmly in the luxury category.
Value depends on what you would otherwise buy. If a single, carefully voiced bar replaces a television’s weak speakers and avoids the cost and inconvenience of a subwoofer and rear channels, the XIO’s premium can be rational. If your goal is the biggest possible explosion effects and deep bass, spending the same money on a multi-box package may produce a more dramatic result.
