A blank Chrome DevTools screenshot can mean DevTools captured only the visible viewport, the page had not rendered correctly yet, or an automated capture used the wrong bounds. First check whether the page itself looked blank at capture time; then verify the capture mode and, if you use CDP, its screenshot parameters. The available documentation does not identify one universal cause or fix.
First, confirm you asked Chrome for a full-page capture
DevTools offers two different screenshot commands. “Capture screenshot” saves the currently visible viewport; “Capture a full size screenshot” includes content outside the viewport. If your image contains only the top of the page, open the DevTools screenshot menu and choose the full-size command. Chrome’s Device mode documentation describes this distinction.

Check whether the page was already blank
A screenshot records what the browser rendered, so inspect the page’s appearance during loading before treating the exporter as the cause. In DevTools, open the Network panel, enable its screenshot capture option, and reload. The resulting frames show how the page looked at different points in the load and can be related to network activity at those moments. If a frame is blank, investigate the page’s load or rendering behavior first. See Chrome’s guide to inspecting network activity.

Inspect browser-reported resource issues
Open the Issues panel and follow any affected-resource links. Chrome reports categories such as stylesheet loading problems, CORS, Content Security Policy, cookie issues, and mixed content. These are useful leads, not proof that any particular issue caused a blank screenshot; check whether a reported problem affects the content that failed to render. Chrome’s Issues documentation explains how to inspect them.

For CDP automation, check the capture parameters
If your screenshot comes from Chrome DevTools Protocol (CDP), inspect the call to Page.captureScreenshot. The protocol reference documents captureBeyondViewport with a default of false; automation that needs pixels beyond the viewport should verify that its capture settings are appropriate. Also inspect any clip rectangle: its coordinates and dimensions determine the region being captured. The command returns image data encoded as base64. See the CDP Page protocol reference.
When output is cropped or has blank regions, compare the intended document dimensions with the capture region. Chromium’s protocol browser tests exercise full-page capture and content dimensions, making geometry a reasonable diagnostic check, but they cannot establish the cause of a particular failure. Chromium’s browser tests provide that implementation context.

Yes. Choose “Capture a full size screenshot”; the viewport-only command captures just the currently visible area.
