Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteIf the mouse pointer disappears only in Google Chrome, first check whether it is actually the pointer—or the text caret inside a field. Then compare the affected page in Incognito, test Chrome’s hardware-acceleration setting, and check for updates. These are diagnostic steps, not guaranteed fixes: the reports available describe different symptoms and do not establish one shared cause.
First, identify what is disappearing
“Cursor” can mean the mouse pointer, which moves around the screen, or the text caret, the blinking line that marks where typed text will appear. The distinction matters because the reports describe different behaviors.

- Pointer missing: The arrow or other mouse pointer vanishes, perhaps only over part of a page.
- Caret missing: The pointer may still be visible, but the blinking insertion line disappears over a text field. If typing continues, the caret may be invisible rather than input being broken.
- Scope: Check whether the problem occurs throughout the desktop, across Chrome, on one website, or only in certain areas of a page.
A Chrome Help Community post dated March 14, 2026, describes a pointer becoming invisible in some areas of Google Docs and Calendar. A separate Google Issue Tracker report dated December 9, 2025, describes a caret disappearing over text input fields on Windows 11 while typing continued. The issue is marked unconfirmed; neither report establishes that the symptoms have the same cause or that they are widespread. Read the Chrome Help Community report and the Chromium issue report.
Try checks that distinguish Chrome, profile, and update issues
Work through these tests in order, changing one thing at a time so you can tell whether the behavior changes. A result can help narrow the possibilities; it does not prove a particular cause.

1. Compare the affected page in Incognito
- Open a new Incognito window using Chrome’s menu or the keyboard shortcut for your operating system.
- Visit the same page and reproduce the same action or pointer position.
- If the symptom changes, test extensions in your regular profile by disabling them individually, then rechecking the page.
This comparison can help identify whether the regular profile or an extension is involved. The community suggestions do not identify any particular extension as responsible. The original discussion and another Chrome Help Community thread suggest Incognito and extension checks.
2. Test Chrome’s hardware-acceleration setting
- In Chrome, open Settings and look under System for the hardware-acceleration option. The wording and location can vary by Chrome version.
- Toggle the setting and relaunch Chrome if prompted.
- Revisit the same page and check whether the pointer or caret behavior changes.
The documented label in Chromium source version 126.0.6464.1 is “Use hardware acceleration when available.” That confirms the setting exists in that source version, not that changing it will fix a particular case. Community replies recommend trying the toggle, but do not verify it as a universal remedy. See the version-tagged Chromium source string.

- Open Chrome’s About Chrome page from Settings and check whether an update is available.
- Check your computer or graphics hardware manufacturer for a graphics-driver update applicable to your device and operating system.
Community replies suggest both checks, but the cited discussions do not identify a particular browser or driver release as a confirmed fix. The community thread offers these as troubleshooting suggestions.
