Chrome Auto Sign-In: How to Turn It Off on Computer and Android

Disable automatic sign-in in Google Password Manager on Chrome for computer or Android while keeping saved-password autofill separate.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

To make Chrome ask before Google Password Manager signs you in with saved credentials, turn off Sign in automatically on a computer or Auto sign-in on Android. This changes automatic sign-in behavior; it does not delete saved passwords or necessarily stop Chrome from offering or filling them.

Turn off automatic sign-in on a computer

  1. Open Chrome and select More in the upper-right corner.
  2. Select Passwords and autofill, then Google Password Manager.
  3. Select Settings in the left menu.
  4. Turn off Sign in automatically.

Google’s computer instructions describe this option as the way to require confirmation before signing in to a site or app. Menu labels can vary as Chrome changes.

Turn off automatic sign-in on Android

  1. Open the Chrome app and tap More, then Settings.
  2. Tap Google Password Manager.
  3. Open its Settings.
  4. Turn off Auto sign-in.

Google’s Android password-management instructions list this platform-specific label and path.

What changes—and what does not

With automatic sign-in off, Google Password Manager asks for confirmation before signing you in with saved information. This is useful when you want to review the sign-in or complete an intervening step before proceeding.

  • Intel Celeron N4120: 4 Cores & Threads, 1.1GHz Base Clock, Up to 2.6GHz Boost Clock, 4MB Cache, Intel UHD Graphics 600. The perfect combination of performance, power consumption, and value helps your device handle multitasking smoothly and reliably with four processing cores to divide up the work.

Automatic sign-in is separate from password autofill. If Chrome still offers saved passwords or fills them after you turn off this setting, that does not mean the change failed: the toggle controls whether sign-in proceeds automatically, not whether saved credentials remain available. Google’s Android guidance on managing passwords treats autofill separately.

If you want a different autofill provider on Android

Turning off Auto sign-in does not switch the provider Chrome uses. If your goal is to use another service to save and fill passwords, Chrome for Android lets you choose Google or another autofill provider. See Google’s Android instructions for provider options.
