Christmas Holidays runs on Minecraft Java Edition 1.20.1 with Forge. For a complete server, download the official 1.20.1 Forge server-pack ZIP from CurseForge, allocate at least 8 GB of RAM, start it once to generate its files, accept the Minecraft EULA as required by the server software, then stop it before changing settings. Use the CurseForge distribution when you need the full quest and content set; the Modrinth listing is client- and server-compatible but omits some content, optimization mods, FTB Quests, and a downloadable server pack.
Godlike.Host offers modded Minecraft server hosting with one-click modpacks, a built-in mod installer and up to three free backups a day.
The pack adds Christmas decorations, snowy biomes, holiday food, quests, enemies and structures. This guide covers the files to download, installation order, memory planning, continuous-snow settings and the checks that prevent the most common connection and startup problems.

What Christmas Holidays is
Christmas Holidays is a Minecraft Java Edition modpack built for version 1.20.1 and the Forge mod loader. Modrinth labels it as compatible with both client and server and categorizes it as Adventure, Multiplayer, Quests and Lightweight. Its theme is a seasonal survival experience rather than a cosmetic-only resource pack: worlds can contain winter scenery, festive building materials, holiday food, quest progression, additional enemies and new structures.
Every person joining a multiplayer world needs a matching Minecraft version, Forge profile and modpack version. A vanilla 1.20.1 client, a different Forge build or a different pack release can fail the mod handshake even when the server itself is running normally.

Which distribution should you install?
| Distribution | When it fits | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|
| CurseForge | Best choice when you want the fullest content set, including the pack’s quest experience. | The official server-pack ZIP is published here. |
| Modrinth | Useful when you prefer Modrinth’s launcher and project listing; the project is marked client and server compatible. | The listing says some content and optimization mods cannot be added there, FTB Quests cannot be included, and server packs cannot be uploaded. |
Those differences are why a server administrator should not mix a Modrinth client download with a CurseForge server pack and assume they are identical. If quests or the complete content set matter, install the CurseForge release on both the server and clients. If you choose Modrinth for a client-only test, confirm that its mod list matches the server’s files before inviting players.

Client requirements
Install Minecraft Java Edition 1.20.1 and the Forge profile required by the pack. The project FAQ recommends at least 6 GB (6144 MB) of client memory when the game remains stuck while loading or when frame rates are low. That is the project’s recommendation, not an independent benchmark; allocating more memory does not automatically fix a slow processor, graphics driver problem or an incompatible mod.

Dedicated-server requirements
Plan for a minimum of 8 GB of RAM. The project owner specifically says, “Please note that for this modpack, we recommend a minimum of 8GB of RAM.” Larger player counts may require more. Treat 8 GB as a starting allocation rather than a guarantee of a particular number of players: the project pages do not publish an independent capacity test.
Files and access
- The official CurseForge server-pack ZIP (666.1 MB for the cited December 22, 2025 release).
- A machine or managed host that can run a Forge 1.20.1 server and allocate the required memory.
- Permission to create, extract and edit the server directory.
- A backup location for the world and configuration before making changes.
How to set up a Christmas Holidays server
- Install the game version. On each client, install Minecraft Java Edition 1.20.1. Do not let a launcher silently select another game version.
- Install Forge. Create or select the Forge profile required by the Christmas Holidays 1.20.1 pack. The server and clients must use Forge rather than Fabric or a vanilla server.
- Get the matching pack. Download the CurseForge distribution when you need the complete content and quests. For the server, obtain the official 1.20.1 Forge server-pack ZIP from the pack’s CurseForge file page, and verify that its release matches the client release.
- Prepare a clean server directory. Create a new folder dedicated to this server and extract the ZIP into it. Keeping the pack separate from another Minecraft installation prevents old mods or configuration files from being loaded accidentally.
- Assign memory. Configure the server environment with at least 8 GB of RAM. Leave enough memory for the operating system and other services; giving every available gigabyte to Java can make the host unstable.
- Start once. Launch the Forge server using the startup method supplied with the server pack. The first run creates world, configuration and other runtime files and may take considerably longer than later starts.
- Accept the EULA. Read and accept Mojang’s Minecraft EULA in the file and manner required by the server software. The project pages do not publish a project-specific EULA walkthrough, so follow the instructions shown by your installed Forge server rather than copying an unrelated command.
- Stop cleanly. After the initial generation completes, stop the server through its normal administrative control and wait for the process to exit. Do not edit or copy files while the world is still being written.
- Back up the generated directory. Keep a copy of the world and configuration before changing gameplay settings or updating the pack. A backup gives you a recovery point if a setting prevents the server from starting.
- Join with a matching client. Install the same Christmas Holidays release and Forge 1.20.1 profile on every player’s computer. Launch the pack once before connecting so its client-side files and configuration are generated.
- Test privately. Connect with one client, confirm that the world loads, inspect a few festive blocks or structures and verify that quests appear as expected. Resolve errors before adding more players.
The exact executable name, Java flags and operating-system service setup vary by server package and host. Use the files included in the downloaded pack and your host’s Forge instructions; do not assume a command from another Forge project applies here.
Making snow fall continuously
The Snowy mod controls the pack’s continuous-snow behavior. The project FAQ says continuous snow was disabled starting with version 3.5.0. If you want a different pattern, change the setting on the server rather than editing a random client file.

- Stop the server completely.
- Make a backup of the server directory, especially the world and configuration folders.
- Open the server’s
configfolder, then thesnowyfolder. - Locate the Snowy configuration option that controls continuous snowfall and change it according to the comments or values supplied in that file.
- Save the file, restart the server and observe a test area.
- Have all players use the same Christmas Holidays version. Keep the server and client pack releases synchronized after any update.
Do not edit the file while the server is running; a live process can overwrite your change on shutdown. If the server fails after an edit, restore the backup and start again, then reapply only a documented value from the generated configuration.
RAM and performance planning
Use the recommendations as a baseline
The 6 GB client figure applies to the project’s FAQ scenario in which the game stays loading or has low FPS. The 8 GB server figure is the project’s minimum recommendation. Neither number is an independent benchmark, and neither promises a fixed frame rate or player count.
Symptoms of an undersized client allocation
- The game remains on a loading screen for an unusually long time.
- Frame rates are persistently low after the world has loaded.
- The launcher or operating system reports memory pressure while the pack is running.
First confirm that the launcher is actually using the intended 6144 MB or more, then close memory-heavy applications and check that the Forge profile and pack release match. Increasing memory beyond the project’s recommendation can reduce available memory for the operating system, so allocate it deliberately.

- Play with up to four friends or brave the dungeons alone. Battle new-and-nasty mobs across action-packed, wildly varied levels, in a quest to defeat the evil Arch-Illager!
Symptoms of an undersized server
- Players experience delayed block updates or long pauses when new terrain loads.
- The server process stops or reports out-of-memory errors.
- Joining several players causes worsening lag even though a single-player test works.
Start at 8 GB, monitor the host while players explore and increase the allocation when the machine has capacity. More players, larger explored areas and simultaneous world generation can increase demand; the project does not publish a player-capacity table.

The server will not start
- Confirm that the server is using Minecraft 1.20.1 and Forge, not a different game version or loader.
- Re-extract the official server-pack ZIP into a clean directory so files from an older pack cannot conflict.
- Check that the server has at least the project’s recommended 8 GB allocation and that the host has additional memory available for the operating system.
- If you changed the Snowy configuration, restore the backup and test again.
- Read the generated log for the first mod or file named in the error; do not delete random mods from the pack.
A client cannot connect
- Compare the client’s Minecraft version, Forge profile and Christmas Holidays release with the server.
- Use the same distribution when possible. A Modrinth installation may lack content or FTB Quests that are present in the CurseForge server pack.
- Ensure that the client has completed its first launch and is not loading a different profile.
- Restart both sides after correcting files, then test with one player before inviting the group.
Quests or content are missing
Check the distribution first. The Modrinth listing states that FTB Quests cannot be included there and that some content and optimization mods are unavailable. Install the corresponding CurseForge release when those features are required; do not try to reconstruct the pack by adding arbitrary mods.
Snow does not behave as expected
Check the Snowy configuration in config/snowy on the server, confirm that the server was stopped before editing, and verify that the change was saved. Continuous snow is disabled from pack version 3.5.0 according to the FAQ, so a newer installation may need an explicit configuration change. Clients should then reconnect with the same pack version.

Self-hosting versus a managed host
Self-hosting gives you control over files, backups and configuration, but you are responsible for memory, Forge installation, updates, network access and recovery. A managed Minecraft host can reduce those tasks, especially for a group that does not want to maintain a server machine.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →The project owner says the pack works with Bisect Hosting and advertises a 25% code. Treat that statement and discount as an external promotional claim: confirm the current code, eligible geography, landing page and terms before relying on it. The project pages do not independently benchmark the provider.
When comparing any host, ask these questions before paying:
- Can the plan allocate at least 8 GB of RAM to a Forge 1.20.1 instance?
- Can you upload or import the official 1.20.1 server-pack ZIP instead of assembling mods manually?
- Are automated backups available, and can you download a backup before changing Snowy settings or updating the pack?
- How does the host handle additional players and world growth when the 8 GB baseline is no longer enough?
- What support channel handles Forge startup and modpack file errors?
- What is the recurring price after any introductory promotion, and are there storage, backup or player-count limits?
Because the project does not publish independent host benchmarks, select a service based on these documented capabilities and your region rather than assuming a recommendation guarantees performance.
Updating safely
- Record the current Christmas Holidays and Forge versions.
- Stop the server and make a complete world and configuration backup.
- Check the new pack release’s Minecraft version and loader before downloading it.
- Replace or update files using the release’s supplied server pack, not a mixture of old and new mod files.
- Start the updated server without allowing players to join, watch the log and confirm that the world loads.
- Update every client to the same release before reopening the server.
If an update introduces a startup error or missing content, stop the process, restore the backup and return to the previously working release while you identify the incompatible file.
Pre-launch checklist
- Minecraft Java Edition 1.20.1 is installed.
- Forge 1.20.1 is selected on both server and clients.
- The CurseForge distribution is used when the full content and quest set is required.
- The server-pack ZIP matches the client pack release.
- The server has at least 8 GB allocated, with additional host memory available.
- Each client has about 6 GB allocated when experiencing loading or FPS problems.
- The server has been started once, its EULA has been accepted as required, and it has been stopped cleanly before edits.
- A backup exists before changing
config/snowy. - All players have matching pack versions after every configuration or version change.
The Bottom Line
For the most complete Christmas Holidays multiplayer experience, use the CurseForge 1.20.1 Forge server pack, allocate at least 8 GB of server RAM, keep every client on the identical release and edit Snowy’s settings only after stopping and backing up the server.
