There is no universally best set of MemoryCleaner options or automatic-cleanup interval. The project documents six memory-area controls, an immediate cleanup command, and interval-based automatic cleanup—but it publishes no workload-specific presets or comparative performance results. Start by diagnosing a real memory problem, then use only the cleanup options relevant to it; frequent cleaning can affect performance.
First, check whether Windows actually needs memory cleanup
A large standby-memory figure is not, by itself, evidence that applications are short of RAM. Standby memory contains cached code or data that is not currently in use, and Windows can release it when another task needs memory. Microsoft’s Windows Memory Cheat Sheet explains that the lowest-priority standby data is released first.
To investigate a slowdown, look for resource-heavy processes and close apps you are not using. Microsoft’s Windows performance guidance also recommends monitoring CPU, memory, and disk use, and restarting if closing unneeded apps does not help. If an older PC remains slow, outdated hardware may be a limiting factor; Microsoft notes that an upgrade may be the best long-term option in that situation.
For a more detailed view of physical-memory allocation, Microsoft Sysinternals’ RAMMap provides views including Use Counts, Processes, Priority Summary, Physical Pages, File Summary, and File Details. Its File Summary view can help identify what appears in the standby list. RAMMap is an analysis tool, not evidence that routinely clearing memory lists will improve performance.

What the MemoryCleaner settings do
This guide refers to TheUserWW’s MemoryCleaner project on GitHub. Its README lists six memory-area options, an “Immediate Cleanup” action, and “Automatic Cleanup” with a user-set interval. The descriptions below report what the project documents; they are not independent test results.

How to choose manual and automatic cleanup
Use immediate cleanup only to address a specific situation
If you want to try a cleanup, select only the relevant documented memory area and run “Immediate Cleanup.” Then check whether the original symptom changes. Do not treat a temporary change in reported free memory as proof that the underlying problem is fixed; the project provides no comparative measurements showing that a particular combination improves performance.

Choose an automatic interval cautiously
MemoryCleaner lets you enable “Automatic Cleanup” and set an interval, but its README does not prescribe an optimal interval. It warns that frequent cleaning may affect system performance. Avoid assuming that continuous or frequent cleanup is beneficial; if you choose to automate it, evaluate the result on your own workload and stop if performance worsens.
Account for permissions and possible stalls
Some operations require administrator privileges. In particular, the project documents that “System WS” requires administrator privileges and cautions that clearing system working sets can temporarily stall applications. Use that option only if you understand the potential interruption.

Keep RAM cleanup separate from freeing drive space
MemoryCleaner’s documented controls concern memory areas, not files on a storage drive. If the problem is low disk space, use Windows storage tools instead: Microsoft’s guide to freeing drive space covers Storage Sense, Cleanup recommendations, and Disk Cleanup. Clearing RAM does not free drive storage.
