Choosing Cox Internet: What to Know About Plans, Prices, Speeds and Availability

Cox Internet is transitioning to Spectrum branding in former Cox markets. Learn how to check address-specific plans, promotional pricing, speeds, data terms and equipment needs.

Cox Internet is shifting to Spectrum branding in former Cox markets, so new customers may see Spectrum offers while existing Cox customers can keep their current plans, pricing and products. Charter completed its transaction with Cox Communications on August 20, 2026, and said Spectrum products, packaging and pricing would be available to former Cox customers beginning in mid-September. Charter confirmed that access on September 16. The Cox name remains useful when checking legacy service and account details, but availability and offers depend on your address and customer status. Charter’s transaction announcement and its former-market launch announcement describe the change.

What Cox Internet offers now

Cox’s residential plans range from Go Fast, advertised at up to 100 Mbps, to Go Beyond Fast, advertised at up to 2 Gbps where available. Plan names, prices and offers may change as Spectrum service rolls out in former Cox markets. For a particular home, an address check—not a general plan list—determines which tiers and network options are offered. Cox’s residential internet page lists its plans and availability process.

Before ordering, enter your service address and read the checkout disclosures for the offer’s eligibility, promotional duration, post-promotion rate, equipment charges, taxes, surcharges and other fees. Cox says pricing may vary by location, account features, discounts and term agreements; not all services are available everywhere. Its listed prices exclude taxes, surcharges, certain equipment, usage-based charges and other fees. Cox’s plan information also notes that prices and availability are subject to change.

How fast is Cox Internet?

The plan figures are advertised maximums, not a promise of the speed a device will experience in the home. Cox says actual performance can vary with equipment, conditions inside the home, the number of users and the service area. Compare upload and download speeds separately; a high advertised download rate does not establish an equally high upload rate. No independent in-home performance result is established here. Cox explains its speeds and network in its residential internet information.

Is Cox Internet fiber?

Cox describes its network as fiber-powered, but that does not mean every customer receives fiber all the way to the home. In the common configuration, fiber runs to a neighborhood node and coaxial cable connects the node to most homes. Cox Fiber, with fiber delivered directly to the home, is available only in select areas. Use the address checker to see whether a fiber-to-the-home connection or a particular speed tier is offered at your location.

Does Cox Internet have a data limit or overage charges?

Cox Communications’ 2026 residential materials state that plans include 1.25 TB (1,280 GB) of data per month. Its data information says additional data options are available, and that usage beyond the included allowance is charged in 50 GB blocks at $10 per block, with overage charges capped at $100 per month. Unused data does not roll over. Because applicable terms and options can change, check the current disclosure for the plan and address before ordering. Cox’s data-usage information explains the allowance and charges.

What equipment will you need?

Cable Internet

Cox cable service requires a Cox-approved DOCSIS 3.0-or-higher cable modem compatible with your subscribed tier. You may be able to supply an approved modem yourself; confirm the model against Cox’s current compatibility list and the speed tier before buying. A search such as “Cox-compatible cable modem” can help find candidate devices, but compatibility should be verified with Cox rather than assumed from a product listing. Cox’s certified modem list provides compatibility information.

Cox Fiber

For a fiber-to-the-home installation, Cox installs an optical network terminal (ONT), which serves as the modem. You still need a router or gateway to distribute the connection around the home. A cable modem is not the appropriate replacement for the ONT on this type of installation. Cox’s equipment information distinguishes the equipment used for its connections.

What should you compare before choosing a provider?

Compare providers for the exact service address, not only by headline download speed. Check the full monthly cost during any promotion and afterward, plus equipment costs, taxes and other charges. Also compare upload and download rates, whether the connection is fiber-to-the-home or coax, data allowances and overage or unlimited-data terms, equipment requirements, contract and cancellation rules, and eligibility. Those details can differ by location and offer, so confirm them in each provider’s address-specific checkout information.
