If you want to use standard 3.5mm headphones, speakers, or a headset with a USB-C device, choose an adapter with a built-in DAC and verify it supports your exact device. “35mm” in the title means the common 3.5mm audio plug—not a literal 35mm connector. Apple’s adapter is a straightforward pick for listed Apple devices; Samsung says newer Galaxy models need a DAC-equipped adapter; StarTech publishes more headset and technical details, but its specifications warrant a closer check.
Why a USB-C to 3.5mm adapter may need a DAC
A USB-C port does not guarantee that a passive cable will carry headphone audio. Under Android’s published USB-C adapter specification, the adapter must convert digital audio to analog; analog-only adapters using an older USB-C mode are not supported by that specification. In practice, choose an active adapter with a digital-to-analog converter (DAC), then confirm compatibility with the device manufacturer or adapter maker.

Android’s guidance describes stereo output, one analog input channel, headset-microphone insertion detection, and translation of headset-button events. Those are functional requirements and capabilities in the specification, not a promise that every Android device implements every optional feature in the same way. Which adapter fits your device?
| Adapter | Best fit | What the maker documents | What to verify |
|---|---|---|---|
| Apple USB-C to 3.5mm Headphone Jack Adapter | Apple devices included on Apple’s compatibility list | Connects standard 3.5mm headphones or speakers to USB-C devices; Apple lists compatible iPhone, iPad, and Mac model families. | Do not assume the listed compatibility extends to Android. The cited Apple page does not specify DAC-chip identity, output power, or independent audio measurements. |
| Samsung Type-C to 3.5mm Headset Jack Convert Adapter | Galaxy phones and other Samsung devices whose support guidance calls for a DAC adapter | Samsung support says newer models without a dedicated headphone socket require a USB-C-to-3.5mm adapter with a built-in DAC, and advises checking DAC compatibility for third-party alternatives. | Confirm the exact Galaxy model and whether you need microphone or inline-control support; Samsung’s product page does not establish universal compatibility for every headset. |
| StarTech.com USBCAUDIO | Readers who want a documented active adapter and published headset-control claims | The manufacturer datasheet describes a built-in DAC, microphone and pause/play/mute-control support, example compatibility with Windows, macOS, iPad Pro, Pixel, Galaxy, and Chromebook, and a two-year warranty. | The datasheet lists both 24-bit/192 kHz and 32-bit/384 kHz in different sections, and describes the 3.5mm connector as three-conductor TRS. Check the current SKU and connector details before relying on it for a headset microphone. |
These are compatibility-oriented choices, not a sound-quality ranking: the cited material does not provide independent comparative listening tests or measurements. Apple’s regional product page displayed ₹1,090 when accessed, but price varies by market and can change, so check the current local listing.
#1 Best Overall
- The USB-C to 3.5mm Headphone Jack Adapter lets you connect devices that use a standard 3.5mm audio plug - like headphones or speakers - to your USB-C devices
- Works with all devices that have a USB-C connector and support iOS 10 or later.
Check microphone and inline-button support separately
Headphone playback, headset microphone input, and inline-button controls are distinct functions. A headset that plays audio may still fail to pass microphone input or button commands through the adapter. Android’s documentation covers microphone detection and button-event translation; its USB audio test guidance also notes that button testing depends on the headset producing the required virtual key codes. That is platform test guidance, not a retail recommendation or a guarantee for every headset-and-phone combination. Android Open Source Project: USB audio CTS Verifier tests.
Samsung’s support article, updated 12 August 2026, advises: “If you choose an adaptor from a different manufacturer, always ensure that it is DAC compatible.” A customer review on Samsung’s product page reports a lapel microphone working with a Note10+, but one user report does not establish compatibility across Galaxy models or microphones. Confirm charging and demanding-headphone needs before buying
- Simultaneous charging: If you need to charge while listening, look specifically for a model that documents USB-C charge-through. The cited Apple, Samsung, and StarTech material does not establish charge-through capability for the adapters above.
- High-power headphones: If your headphones need substantial output, look for published output-power specifications. The cited Apple and Samsung pages do not state output power, and the conflicting StarTech format figures do not establish how well it will drive a particular headphone.
- Headset controls: If calls or inline buttons matter, confirm both microphone input and button support for the exact adapter, headset wiring, and host device rather than relying on a playback-only claim.
Use this compatibility check before ordering
- Identify the device model. Check its manufacturer support page for USB-C audio or adapter requirements. For recent Galaxy devices, Samsung says to use a DAC-compatible adapter.
- Confirm the adapter is active and includes a DAC. Do not infer this from a USB-C plug or a product title alone.
- Match the 3.5mm use case. Verify whether you need stereo playback only, a headset microphone, or inline controls, and check the adapter’s documented support for those functions.
- Check connector and SKU details. For a headset mic, confirm the adapter’s jack and conductor configuration; StarTech’s datasheet identifies a three-conductor TRS connector despite its microphone-support claim.
- Check any extra port requirement. If charging during playback is necessary, make sure charge-through is explicitly listed for the exact model.
