Selected Fujifilm models—not Leica—showed the strongest value trend in MPB’s US camera-price index from December 2021 to December 2024. MPB reported an almost 10% net increase for those Fujifilm models, but its comparison did not include Leica. The result is a useful market signal, not proof that Fujifilm universally holds value better or that any particular camera kit will appreciate.
What the camera resale data actually says
MPB’s 2024 analysis followed a selected group of 100 popular products in its US index over the three years from December 2021 through December 2024. In that set, selected Fujifilm models rose almost 10% in net value. Selected premium compact cameras rose nearly 9%, while selected mirrorless models fell around 15% and selected DSLR models fell about 38%. These figures describe movements in the index’s selected products, not every camera in each category.

MPB associated Fujifilm’s strength in part with the launch and demand around the X100VI. That is a plausible example of how attention around a particular camera can influence a brand’s measured trend, but it does not establish that every Fujifilm body, lens, or complete kit has gained value. MPB also described downward trends among selected Sony, Nikon, and Canon models as products age and newer technology enters the market. MPB’s 2024 pricing analysis provides the figures and its interpretation.

The available figures do not answer that as a matched resale comparison. Leica was not included in MPB’s reported top-brand trend result, so the almost-10% Fujifilm increase cannot be read as a direct Leica-versus-Fujifilm contest.

A separate UK snapshot offers a different kind of comparison. In UsedLens’ Q3 2026 report, models up to three years old were listed at typical asking prices equal to 82% of new for Leica (six models) and 78% for Fujifilm (10 models). The same table reported Canon at 85% (eight models), Sony at 78% (13), Nikon at 77% (five), and Panasonic at 74% (six). These are small, unequal model samples and asking-price comparisons—not completed-sale returns, a controlled brand study, or estimates of what owners actually receive.
UsedLens also counted 598 listed Leica cameras worth £1.3 million and 5,598 listed Fujifilm cameras worth £1.3 million on 30 September 2026. Those totals describe monitored UK retailer inventory: the number of listings multiplied by typical asking prices. Equal aggregate values do not imply equal value retention for an individual camera. The distinctions and figures appear in the UsedLens Q3 2026 UK market report.

Why an index, asking price, and your payout differ
Index movement
MPB says its index tracks a fixed group of 100 popular products and uses a weighted average to emphasize price movement while accounting for the mix of products. The weights reflect quantities traded in the most recently completed financial half-year. The data comes from MPB Re.Value; the index updates daily, while its selected models and weights refresh every six months. It covers the US, EU, and UK. The Fujifilm result cited above is specifically MPB’s US analysis for December 2021–December 2024, not a current forecast or a global guarantee. See MPB’s index methodology.

Retailer asking prices
UsedLens’ recent-model figures compare typical UK retailer asking prices with new prices. An asking price can differ from the amount a buyer pays or a seller receives, and retailer stock is not the same thing as completed transactions. Its 30 September 2026 inventory snapshot put UK used-gear listings at £24.3 million in total: £12.0 million in cameras and £12.3 million in lenses. That is market stock value, not a measure of owners’ returns.

Your net proceeds
A kit’s resale outcome depends on its exact components and sale circumstances. The price for a body alone is not interchangeable with the price for a body-and-lens bundle. Condition, accessories, local demand, selling fees, shipping, and whether you sell privately or to a retailer all affect what remains in your pocket. Neither index movements nor retailer asking prices appraise an individual kit.
What can move a camera’s resale price?
- Exact model and category: A popular premium compact can follow a different path from a DSLR, a mirrorless body, or an interchangeable lens. MPB’s selected premium compacts gained nearly 9% while its selected mirrorless products and DSLRs declined in the same three-year US window.
- Age and successor timing: Prices can change when a newer model arrives or is announced. In one UK example, UsedLens reported that the Sony RX10 IV’s typical asking price fell 24.8% after the RX10 V announcement, compared with a 3.1% decline for the market over the same period. Its RX10 IV listings rose from 31 to 277. This is a single-model illustration, not a rule for every successor launch. UsedLens reports the example.
- Condition and completeness: Wear, faults, included batteries or accessories, and which lenses are bundled change the item being compared. A fair comparison needs the same model and broadly comparable condition and contents.
- Location and price basis: A US index trend cannot be assumed to match a UK asking-price snapshot. Compare the same geography, time period, and type of price—asking, completed sale, or your net proceeds.
How to estimate what your own kit may sell for
- List each item separately. Record the exact camera model, lens model and mount, accessories, and whether you plan to sell items individually or together.
- Assess condition honestly. Note cosmetic wear, faults, missing accessories, and any relevant uncertainty. Do not compare a worn or incomplete item with a near-mint complete listing as if they were equivalent.
- Find current local comparables. Look for the same model, similar condition, and similar included items in your intended sales market. Where possible, distinguish completed sale prices from active asking prices.
- Adjust for the sale route. Account for fees, shipping, and any retailer margin or trade-in deduction before treating a headline price as your proceeds.
- Use broad indices only as context. They can show a category or selected-model trend, but they cannot substitute for a model-specific price check and condition assessment.
The published figures here do not provide a completed-sale, matched-condition comparison of Leica and Fujifilm bodies and lenses across ownership periods. The most defensible answer for an individual owner therefore comes from comparable local transactions for the exact gear, not a brand ranking.
