First choose where the wallpaper will appear: iPhone Lock Screen, Android screen, or Windows desktop. A “moving wallpaper” might be a Live Photo, a looping video, or an animation played by an app; those formats are not interchangeable. Check your device and operating-system version before downloading, then use the platform’s wallpaper picker when it supports the file or a compatible app when it does not.
Before you download: identify the format and destination
Moving wallpapers come in different forms. An iPhone Live Photo is a motion image with a specific Lock Screen behavior; MP4 and WebM are video formats that some catalogs offer for animated backgrounds; a Windows desktop animation may be managed and played by a dedicated application. A video file is not automatically a wallpaper, and support varies by device, OS version, manufacturer, launcher, and app.

Decide whether you want motion on the Lock Screen, Home Screen, or desktop. Then check the download’s file type and the installation instructions for your exact platform. A catalog may offer static PNG or WebP files alongside animated video files, so confirm you have selected the moving version if that is what you want. Use a Live Photo on the Lock Screen
Apple’s instructions apply to iOS 17 or later. The Live Photo plays on the Lock Screen when the iPhone wakes if playback is enabled; this is not a promise of continuously looping video behind Home Screen icons.

- Open Settings and tap Wallpaper.
- Tap Add New Wallpaper, then Photos and Live Photo.
- Select the Live Photo you want to use.
- Turn on the play control if you want it to play automatically when the phone wakes.
- Tap Add. If you want a separate still image for the Home Screen, use Customize Home Screen.

How to get moving wallpapers on Android
Android setup is not uniform: the phone maker, system version, launcher, file format, and wallpaper app can all affect whether a download works. Some catalogs provide MP4 or WebM loops and describe applying them through the wallpaper picker or a helper app, but that does not mean every Android phone accepts those files directly. Check the catalog’s installation steps, then confirm compatibility on the target phone.

- Check the wallpaper’s format and whether the provider says it needs a helper app.
- Try the phone’s wallpaper picker if the file type is supported there.
- If the provider requires an app, use a reputable listing and follow its current setup and permissions guidance.
- Preview the wallpaper on the intended screen after applying it.

How to use moving wallpapers on Windows
Windows theme customization and continuous animated desktop playback are different workflows. Microsoft’s theme instructions cover conventional backgrounds and themes, including themes from the Microsoft Store; they do not establish a native continuous-animation workflow.

For animated desktop playback, the Lively Wallpaper community wiki describes a third-party application workflow. Follow the project’s current setup instructions and check that the application supports your Windows version. Its wiki notes that some features may not work in High Contrast mode. That is the catalog’s guidance, not evidence that every macOS version natively supports continuous video wallpaper. A safer download and setup checklist
- Match the wallpaper to the device. Identify the OS version and whether motion is needed on the Lock Screen, Home Screen, or desktop.
- Use a recognizable source. Inspect the file type and intended platform before saving. A listing may include still images as well as animated files.
- Choose the right application path. Use the built-in picker when it supports the format; otherwise follow instructions from a reputable, compatible app.
- Preview the result. If the image appears static, check whether the platform supports that kind of motion and whether an app or conversion is required. A static result does not by itself show that the download is defective.
- Check usage terms. Downloading artwork does not itself grant permission to redistribute it or use it commercially. Read the provider’s terms for the particular wallpaper.
