For plausible person fields, generate values with a Faker library and insert them in a schema-aware batch.
Choose the approach that fits your seed data

The title’s “in seconds” is a goal, not a verified runtime: no source-backed benchmark establishes how long a 500-row seed takes across schemas and environments.

Generate 500 rows in PostgreSQL 18
PostgreSQL’s generate_series returns a sequence that includes both its start and stop values for the ordinary positive-step form. As a row source, generate_series(1, 500) supplies 500 values. Use those values to build the rows your table actually needs.

FROM generate_series(1, 500) AS g(n);This example assumes users has name and email columns that accept these values. It deliberately uses predictable placeholders, not natural-looking identities. Omit an ID column when the database generates it through a default. PostgreSQL documents INSERT column lists and row insertion in its INSERT reference.

Generate 500 rows in MySQL 8.4
MySQL 8.4 supports recursive CTEs. Start with row 1, add one on each recursive step, and stop at 500; then use the CTE as the source of an INSERT ... SELECT. The anchor is already the first row, so the stopping condition must include 500 without producing 501.

FROM user_numbers;Check recursive CTE behavior and limits against the deployed MySQL release, and confirm the inserted row count. The syntax for CTEs and inserts is documented separately in the MySQL 8.4 CTE reference and INSERT reference.

Use Faker when the fields need to look plausible
SQL sequence generators solve the row-count problem; Faker libraries generate varied field values. Build records in an application-side seeder, then bulk insert them using the columns your database requires. Choose a locale deliberately so generated names and related values suit your test case.

# Insert `users` with your application's database client.Adapt the locale, fields, and insert operation to your application. If an email column has a unique constraint, generate and validate distinct values rather than assuming random output cannot collide. Python Faker offers a .unique proxy, but it can raise an error when the requested number of unique values cannot be drawn from a limited domain. The database constraint remains the final safeguard. PHP Faker
FakerPHP provides FakerFactory::create() and providers such as name() and email(). Select a locale when creating the generator and use its seed() method when repeated calls should reproduce output. For deterministic date-time values, set a fixed maximum date rather than relying on a moving “now” boundary. See the FakerPHP documentation.
Make the seed fit the real schema
A sequence of 500 values is not a complete application fixture. Before running a seed, map its generated records to the target table and related tables.

- Insert only columns that exist, and provide values for required columns without defaults.
- Let the database generate IDs when its defaults or identity mechanism own them.
- Respect nullability, column types, and length limits.
- Keep values unique wherever a unique constraint requires it; do not rely on chance to avoid collisions.
- Create parent records before rows that reference them through foreign keys.
- Use a test database or an intentional transaction and verify the affected row count before relying on the fixture.
Make repeatable fixtures actually repeatable
For a stable test dataset, pin the Faker version as well as the seed. Faker Python documents that the same seed can reproduce results for the same method and version, but provider datasets may change between patch versions. FakerPHP also calls out the moving date boundary for date-time generation, so fix the maximum date if those values must remain stable. Avoid mixing other random generators into a fixture that must be reproducible. Faker Python; FakerPHP.
Database-native generation is portable in purpose but not in syntax: PostgreSQL uses generate_series, while MySQL 8.4 uses a recursive CTE. Faker can make fields more realistic across either database, but the application seeder still has to satisfy that database’s schema and constraints.
