These five models are a feature-based shortlist, not a tested ranking. Match the camera to what you record, how you hold it, and what you are willing to carry.
How to choose among small cameras for video
Start with the way you film, rather than a headline frame rate or sensor size. A camera used while walking has different needs from one used on a desk, and a built-in lens is simpler to carry than a body that needs a separate lens. Manufacturer specifications establish the features below; they do not establish which camera has better image quality, autofocus reliability, comfort, or real-world battery life.

- For handheld movement: consider whether mechanical stabilization is central to your footage.
- For talking-head or desk videos: check how the screen frames you and whether the microphone and monitoring workflow meet your needs.
- For travel: compare the complete camera setup, including removable cards and any lens, rather than body dimensions alone.
- For creative flexibility: decide whether changing lenses is worth the extra kit and setup.
Five small cameras with video, by design
1. DJI Osmo Pocket 3: pocket-sized camera with a mechanical gimbal
The Pocket 3 is the clearest fit to explore if you prioritize a compact handheld video setup with three-axis mechanical stabilization. DJI lists a 1-inch CMOS sensor and a 20 mm-equivalent f/2.0 lens in a body measuring 139.7 × 42.2 × 33.5 mm and weighing 179 g. Those dimensions describe the camera, not any accessories you may carry. DJI’s specifications and product information describe its stabilization and recording modes.

The camera has no built-in storage and records to a user-supplied microSD card, with support listed for cards up to 1 TB.

- 16MP Sensor: Captures detailed photos with a CMOS sensor for everyday shooting
- Optical Zoom: 5x optical zoom with a 28mm wide angle lens for flexible framing indoors or outdoors
- Full HD Video: Records 1080p video for travel clips, family moments, or simple vlogging

DJI’s 166-minute operating-time figure comes from a manufacturer test at 25 °C recording 1080p/24 fps with Wi-Fi and the screen off. It is a controlled estimate, not a promise of typical recording time. If your shooting involves a lit screen, wireless connections, or different recording settings, that specific test does not describe your use.
2. Sony ZV-1 II: fixed-lens compact for creator-style shooting
Sony positions the ZV-1 II within its compact-camera range. Its official specification page lists a 1.0-type sensor, dimensions of 105.5 × 60.0 × 46.7 mm, and approximate weight of 292 g. Consult the full Sony specifications for the movie recording system and the exact options relevant to your region and settings; recording formats and regional configurations affect what is available.

Canon identifies the PowerShot V10 as a video camera. Its support page lists a 1-inch high-sensitivity back-illuminated CMOS sensor and MP4 recording. Those facts make it a relevant option for shoppers looking at a camera designed around video capture, but they are not enough to infer a complete comparison of recording modes, dimensions, or battery performance. 4. Canon PowerShot G7 X Mark III: zoom-lens compact with creator features
The G7 X Mark III is a compact fixed-lens camera to consider if you want a built-in zoom-lens design for both stills and video. Canon highlights uncropped 4K video, vertical video support, a tilt LCD, and a 3.5 mm microphone terminal on its product page. A microphone terminal is useful only if the microphone and your monitoring workflow are compatible, so check both before buying. The cited product information does not establish current stock or street price.
5. Panasonic LUMIX G100D: small interchangeable-lens option
The G100D is an interchangeable-lens camera, so body-only dimensions are not a complete portability comparison: the lens you choose changes the size and weight of the kit. Panasonic lists body dimensions of 115.6 × 83.1 × 54.2 mm. This format is worth exploring if you accept carrying a lens in exchange for lens choice; confirm the current regional kit and included lens rather than assuming what a bundle contains.

Check video modes, storage, and audio before buying
Read resolution and frame rate together
A frame-rate number is meaningful only with its resolution and recording mode. For example, DJI lists 4K/120 fps for slow motion, while its regular-video specifications top out at 4K/60 fps. For Sony, check the movie recording system and regional settings on the official specification page. For the V10 and other details not established here, consult Canon’s technical information rather than assuming a mode from the camera’s category.
Budget for the right memory card
The Pocket 3 requires user-supplied microSD storage and has no built-in storage. Panasonic’s G100D documentation covers SD-family cards and identifies UHS-I U3/V30 requirements for relevant modes. Card format and speed are not interchangeable across every camera or mode: confirm the exact camera and recording setting in its official specifications or manual.
Plan the audio setup, not just the camera
If you record speech, check whether the camera supports the microphone you want and how you will monitor audio. Canon lists a 3.5 mm microphone terminal for the G7 X Mark III; do not assume the same connection or workflow for the other models without checking their official specifications. A compatible microphone or other audio equipment may add to the kit you carry.
Quick Recap
A practical decision path
- Decide how you hold the camera. If you film while moving and prioritize mechanical stabilization, investigate the Pocket 3’s gimbal design. For stationary or self-framed clips, compare screen and audio needs across the fixed-lens compacts.
- Choose fixed lens or interchangeable lens. Fixed-lens models keep lens choice built into the camera; with the G100D, assess a complete body-and-lens kit rather than body-only size.
- Write down your required recording mode. Specify resolution, frame rate, and whether you need normal speed or slow motion, then verify that exact combination on the manufacturer’s page.
- Confirm accessories and compatibility. Check memory-card type and speed, microphone connection, and any included lens or other kit contents for the exact regional model.
- Use runtime figures carefully. Treat manufacturer battery estimates as test-condition results, not a guarantee of a full day’s shooting.
