China State Construction Engineering Co., Ltd. (CSCEC, Shanghai Stock Exchange ticker 601668) reported RMB23.0 billion in net profit attributable to shareholders and RMB975.8 billion in revenue for the first half of 2026. UOB Kay Hian said attributable profit fell 24.3% year on year, with second-quarter profit down 40.7% to RMB9.1 billion. The analyst attributed the decline chiefly to higher impairment and sharply lower investment income.
What CSCEC reported for the first half
The company’s 2026 half-year report and H1 results-meeting release confirm revenue of RMB975.8 billion and net profit attributable to shareholders of RMB23.0 billion. UOB Kay Hian’s 1 September 2026 note reports that revenue declined 12.0% and attributable profit declined 24.3% year on year.

The second-quarter result was weaker than the half-year aggregate: UOB Kay Hian reported Q2 attributable profit of RMB9.1 billion, down 40.7% year on year. That is a quarter-only comparison, not the decline for the full six months.

Why profit fell
UOB Kay Hian identified two principal pressures: impairment rose 32% year on year, and investment income fell sharply. The analyst also reported that gross margin improved by 0.9 percentage points. The margin improvement did not offset the pressures on earnings, but the available figures do not quantify how much of the profit decline came from each cause.

These explanations and comparisons are the analyst’s account. The company’s results-meeting release says investors asked about gross margin, the property market, overseas operations, cash flow, valuation and impairment, but does not provide a direct quoted management explanation for the earnings decline.
Contract activity and business segments
CSCEC said it signed RMB2.46 trillion in new contracts in H1 2026. Its English-language January–June 2026 briefing gives a breakdown of operating activity:
| Business | H1 2026 new contracts or sales | H1 2026 operating revenue |
|---|---|---|
| Housing construction | RMB1,551.1 billion; up 3.7% year on year | RMB571.31 billion |
| Infrastructure | RMB734.4 billion | RMB246.46 billion |
| Real estate | Contracted sales of RMB173.6 billion | RMB152.03 billion; up 15.2% year on year |
| International business | RMB182.1 billion in new contracts; up 45.3% year on year | RMB75.98 billion; up 27.0% year on year |
New contracts and revenue in some activities show continued business volume, particularly overseas, but they are not evidence by themselves that profit or cash collections will recover. Contract intake, revenue, profit and cash flow measure different things and should not be treated as interchangeable indicators.

The company’s results-meeting release said operating cash flow continued to improve, without supplying a specific figure in that release. UOB Kay Hian reported net gearing of 66% at June 2026 and said no interim dividend was declared.
In its summary of the 2026 outlook, UOB Kay Hian said management guided to year-on-year improvement in operating cash flow, impairment no higher than in 2025, and a stable dividend. These expectations are reported through the brokerage note, rather than quoted here as verified company wording.
How the result compares with the wider market
The Shanghai Stock Exchange reported that 2,318 listed companies collectively recorded H1 2026 revenue growth of 6.3% and net-profit growth of 17.6%. This is broad market context across listed sectors, not a like-for-like comparison with construction companies. CSCEC’s reported declines therefore stand apart from that all-sector aggregate, but the figures do not establish how it performed against directly comparable contractors.

What to watch in the next report
To judge whether the earnings pressure is easing, compare the next period on consistent measures: attributable profit, revenue, gross margin, impairment, investment income, operating cash flow and new-contract intake. A rise in contracts or segment revenue alone would not establish a profit rebound; the trajectory of impairments, investment income and cash generation also matters.
