How much you can put in a Chime account depends on how you add it. Chime’s stated cash-deposit limits are $3,000 per transaction, $3,000 per day, five deposits per day, and $10,000 per month. Chime says it has no limit on the amount it can receive by direct deposit, while mobile-check and some transfer limits are personalized. Check your current limits in the app at Profile > Account details > View limits.
Which Chime balance do you mean?
“Chime card” can mean the Chime debit card linked to Checking or the Chime Card account. Money added for the Chime Card goes to Checking first, then is automatically moved to the Secured Deposit Account (SDA). A cash deposit made using the Chime Card first goes to the Chime Card Account and is then transferred to the SDA. The app displays the card’s Available balance. Chime explains how the Chime Card balance works.

How much can you add by each method?
| Funding method | Chime’s stated limit | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Cash at participating retailers | Up to $3,000 per transaction and per day; no more than five deposits per day; $10,000 per month. | Limits apply across accounts and deposit methods as described by Chime. A retailer can impose a lower transaction limit. Daily limits reset at midnight Mountain Standard Time. Walgreens and Duane Reade are fee-free; other participating retailers typically charge $3–$5 per transaction. Cash deposits are not available at ATMs. Confirm a location and its fee before going. See Chime’s cash deposit details. |
| Direct deposit | Chime says there is no limit on the amount it can receive. | Large deposits may be reviewed. When funds become available depends on when the payer submits its payment file. Read Chime’s direct deposit explanation. |
| Mobile check deposit | No universal amount is stated on Chime’s cited help page. | Availability and limits are personalized. Check the app’s View limits page, and confirm the mobile-deposit feature is available in your account. See Chime’s mobile check deposit guidance. |
| Transfers | Limits depend on account history and risk factors. | Chime says it does not limit transfers initiated at an external bank, but the sending bank may set limits. Check the app for your personalized limits. Review Chime’s transfer information. |
How to find your personal limit
- Open the Chime app and tap Profile.
- Tap Account details.
- Choose View limits to see the limits that apply to your account.
Use this screen for personalized mobile-check and transfer limits; do not assume another member’s amount applies to you.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsDoes a cash-deposit cap also limit direct deposits?
No. The $10,000 monthly figure is Chime’s stated maximum for cash deposits, not a blanket cap on all incoming money. Chime says it does not limit the amount it can receive through direct deposit, although large deposits may be reviewed.

Which method should you use?
- For cash: Check that the retailer accepts deposits, confirm its own limit and fee, and account for Chime’s daily and monthly caps.
- For a paycheck or other payer-sent payment: Ask the payer when it will submit the payment file; Chime does not state an incoming direct-deposit amount cap.
- For a check or bank transfer: Check the app’s View limits page first, since applicable limits can be personalized.
