Share the chess profile that best represents the activity you want professional contacts to see—not whichever platform is supposedly better for LinkedIn. Review the public profile and game history first. Chess.com offers optional profile details such as an “About Me” section and over-the-board rating; Lichess can display ratings, puzzles, studies, community activity, and game history. Choose based on what your account actually shows and what you want the link to communicate.

A chess link on LinkedIn can serve different purposes. A profile is a lasting reference to your account; a game link is more useful when a post discusses a particular game, lesson, or demonstration. Either can fit, provided the linked material supports the point you are making.

- Share a profile if you want people to find your broader chess identity and activity.
- Share a game if you want readers to inspect one example directly.
- Share neither yet if the public-facing page includes activity or account details you would rather not associate with your professional profile.
The reviewed platform materials do not establish that LinkedIn audiences recognize one service more, or that one service earns more clicks. They also do not verify how LinkedIn currently renders either platform’s link previews. Preview your post before publishing rather than assuming a particular card or appearance.

What a Chess.com profile can communicate
Chess.com says profile information is optional. Its Help Center describes editable fields including first and last name, location, country, an over-the-board rating, and an “About Me” section; profile details are visible to members who visit the profile. That makes an established, well-maintained account a reasonable choice when you want a short, editable introduction alongside your chess activity. Before sharing, check what the account reveals beyond those profile fields. Chess.com documents social controls for requests, challenges, and who can view a friends list, but its legal FAQ says profiles and game histories are publicly visible. It describes game activity—including results, moves, timestamps, and ratings—as accessible as part of the public chess record. What a Lichess profile can communicate
Lichess profile documentation lists ratings by variant, puzzle rating and progress, studies, forum posts and community activity, and detailed game history. That breadth can suit someone who wants a profile to represent more than a single rating, but it also means you should inspect the actual page for activity you are comfortable making visible. Lichess describes itself in its Terms of Service as “free/libre open source software, with the express charitable purpose of promoting and encouraging the play and study of chess.” That describes the service; it is not evidence that a Lichess profile is automatically more private or more appropriate for LinkedIn. The terms, modified August 1, 2026, also distinguish certain public and private account contexts for titled players and generally restrict account sharing subject to stated exceptions. For either service, keep an online rating distinct from an over-the-board credential. If a rating is relevant to your professional post, label it accurately and do not imply it is an official over-the-board rating unless that is what it represents.

Use a profile link for an ongoing reference
Choose your account’s profile URL when you want colleagues to be able to return to your chess identity over time. Lichess’s April 2026 changelog records mobile deep-link support for user profiles. Lichess changelog

Use a game link for a concrete example

Check the public view before you publish
- Open your profile as a visitor would and review its visible identity details, rating labels, activity, and game history.
- Decide whether the profile supports the message on LinkedIn. Remove or adjust optional profile details if appropriate, but do not assume social controls hide public games.
- Choose the profile link for a lasting account reference or a specific game link for a post about that game.
- Preview the LinkedIn post to confirm the link destination and the appearance LinkedIn currently provides.
