Check Your Website’s PHP Version in hPanel: A Hostinger Guide

Open Websites → Dashboard → PHP Info in hPanel to see the PHP version at the top. For a specific folder or subdomain, use and then remove a temporary PHP information file.

To check the PHP version assigned to a website in hPanel, open Websites, select Dashboard beside the site, search the sidebar for PHP Info, and open it. The version appears at the top. For a particular folder or subdomain, check the PHP runtime in that location with a temporary PHP information file instead.

Check the version for a website in hPanel

  1. Sign in to hPanel and open Websites.
  2. Select Dashboard beside the website you want to inspect.
  3. Search the sidebar for PHP Info, then open the page.
  4. Read the PHP version displayed at the top.

This is the recommended first check for the website. The instructions do not apply to websites created with Hostinger AI Builder. Hostinger’s instructions for checking a website’s PHP version describe the current steps.

Check a specific folder or subdomain

A website’s displayed PHP setting may not be enough when you need to verify the runtime for one path, such as a folder or subdomain configured separately. Hostinger documents checking that location by placing a temporary PHP information file there.

  1. Create a file named phpinfo.php in the folder you want to check. Its contents should be <?php phpinfo(); ?>.
  2. Open the corresponding URL in a browser, for example, the URL that ends in /phpinfo.php.
  3. Check the PHP version shown on the resulting information page.
  4. Delete phpinfo.php when finished. The page reveals PHP configuration details and should not be left accessible.

Use this route to verify a narrower runtime context, not as a replacement for the normal hPanel check. Hostinger’s guide to checking PHP version describes the file method and the need to remove the diagnostic file.

What else PHP Info can tell you

The page can be useful when troubleshooting more than a version mismatch. It also lists active PHP extensions, options, and runtime limits, including max_execution_time. If an application behaves differently between environments, these details can help identify differences beyond the PHP version. See Hostinger’s PHP information guide.

Use WordPress Overview for a quick check

If the site is WordPress, the WordPress Overview section in hPanel shows both PHP and WordPress version numbers. It is a convenient way to view the two versions together; use PHP Info when you also need extensions, settings, or limits. Hostinger Help Center’s WordPress and PHP version instructions describe this shortcut.

If you want to change the PHP version

PHP Info is for inspection. To select a different version, Hostinger documents this path: Websites → Dashboard → PHP Configuration. Choose an available version and select Update. The versions offered can change, so check the live PHP Configuration page for your account rather than relying on an older list. Hostinger’s documented change workflow excludes AI Builder websites. See Hostinger’s PHP version change instructions.

Before switching a working site, check that its application supports the target version. Hostinger recommends updating the CMS and site code, themes, and plugins, and verifying compatibility before changing PHP. Hostinger’s compatibility guidance for updating PHP in WordPress covers these checks.

Hostinger also describes changing a folder’s PHP version with .htaccess, but notes that this does not include PHP extensions and options and may affect site operation. Treat it as a scoped or temporary workaround rather than the usual way to manage a site’s PHP configuration. Hostinger’s PHP version guide explains this limitation.
