Godlike.Host is listed first here for Valheim servers with a game panel, a mod installer and up to three free backups a day. For most small groups, the cheapest workable Valheim hosting is a 2GB plan around $5.99–$7.99 per month, provided you need only a few vanilla players. A ten-player crossplay or modded world usually costs more: expect roughly $10–$18 monthly for a plan with enough memory and the required tools. Do not choose from the lowest headline number alone. Compare the renewal price, player and RAM limits, platform support, mod capability, backups and server location.
The prices below were checked against provider pages on October 7, 2026. Taxes, currency conversion, promotions, stock and renewal terms can change, so treat them as comparison snapshots rather than checkout guarantees.

What “cheap but still good” means for a Valheim server
A low monthly fee is useful only if the server can handle your group and the way you play. A four-player vanilla world has very different requirements from a ten-player crossplay world running a large mod pack. The practical definition of “cheapest” is the lowest recurring price for a plan that meets your player count, RAM, platform, mod and backup requirements.
Recommended Free Tools
- Recurring cost: separate the first-month promotion, normal renewal price and any prepaid commitment.
- Capacity: compare player slots and advertised RAM, not price alone.
- Compatibility: confirm crossplay if players use Xbox, PlayStation, Microsoft Store or Steam together.
- Mods: check whether the tier supports your mod loader and whether installation is simple.
- Recovery: look for backup frequency, retention and a way to restore a world.
- Location and operations: a nearby data centre, usable control panel, updates and responsive support can be worth a small price difference.
Provider descriptions and feature lists are promotional claims. They tell you what is included or advertised, not an independent guarantee of tick rate, latency or uptime.
Quick price comparison
This table uses the recurring prices and conditions reported for October 7, 2026. Prices in euros and US dollars are not directly equivalent, and a displayed first-month rate is not a lasting discount.
| Host | Advertised price | Capacity or tier detail | Notable features reported | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Godlike.Host | See the current plans | Valheim servers with a game panel | Up to three free backups a day, a built-in mod installer and updater, SFTP/FTP and free DDoS protection | Check current plan details, location and player capacity. |
| DatHost | €1 first month; then €14.90/month monthly | 10 slots | Automatic updates and backups, world management, mods, crossplay, 49 locations | Lower effective renewals are reported for six- and 12-month prepayment; exact rates are not stated. |
| Supercraft | $7.99/month | 5 players | Crossplay and daily backups | Lowest tier is vanilla-only; mod support starts at the 10-player tier. |
| Supercraft | $12.99/month | 10 players | Crossplay, daily backups and mod support | Compare this tier if mods or ten concurrent players are required. |
| Supercraft | $24.99/month | 30 players | Crossplay and daily backups | Large-group tier; do not compare it with a small vanilla plan. |
| Shockbyte | $9.99/month | 4 players, 3GB | Crossplay, BepInEx and ValheimPlus support, backups and updates | Higher player and RAM tiers cost more. |
| Shockbyte | $12.99/month | 7 players, 4GB | Crossplay, mod support, backups and updates | Middle tier for a growing group. |
| Shockbyte | $16.99/month | 10 players, 6GB or more | Crossplay, BepInEx and ValheimPlus support, backups and updates | Use the recurring tier that fits your actual group. |
| Nitrado | $16.19 for 30 days | 10 slots | Crossplay, configurable locations, daily backups and DDoS protection | Its US page lists this regular rate. A reported $9.72 checkout promotion with code DEEPNORTH40 is conditional. |
| GPORTAL | $15.59 for 30 days | 10 slots | Crossplay, mod-installation tools and 50GB backup space | A three-day option is $6.24; repeatedly renewing it is poor value for a persistent world. |
| Apex Hosting | $5.99 first month; $7.99 recurring | 2GB tier | Higher RAM tiers available | Judge the $7.99 renewal and the RAM you need, not the introductory amount. |
| WinterNode | From $11.94/month | 6GB; recommended 8GB at $15.92/month | Crossplay, mod support and twice-daily backups | Fair-use terms apply. |
Cheapest choices by group and play style
Two to four players, vanilla only
Start with a 2GB plan at $5.99–$7.99 recurring. Apex Hosting reports $7.99 recurring after a $5.99 first month. These are the clearest low-cost options in the snapshot, but neither price by itself proves better performance. Confirm that your preferred region is available and that the control panel provides the world upload, update and restore functions you expect.
If you want four slots with a stated 3GB allocation and built-in mod-loader support, Shockbyte’s $9.99 four-player tier is a more capable comparison. The extra monthly cost buys a larger advertised memory tier and a feature bundle aimed at modded use.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteFive to seven players
Supercraft lists $7.99 for five players, but its lowest tier is vanilla-only. If that restriction fits your group, it is the lowest listed price for five slots. For seven players, Shockbyte lists $12.99 with 4GB. Compare each plan’s player guidance and RAM rather than treating the prices as equivalent.

Ten-player crossplay
Compare Supercraft’s $12.99 ten-player tier, Shockbyte’s $16.99 tier with 6GB or more, Nitrado’s regular $16.19 30-day ten-slot rate, and DatHost’s €14.90 monthly renewal after its first month. Supercraft is the lowest stated dollar price among these entries, while the others differentiate themselves through advertised memory, locations, backup or support features. Nitrado’s reported $9.72 price requires the conditional DEEPNORTH40 promotion and should not be treated as the normal monthly cost.
Modded servers
Do not buy the cheapest vanilla tier and assume mods will work. Supercraft says mod support begins at its ten-player tier, not its $7.99 five-player plan. Shockbyte advertises BepInEx and ValheimPlus support across the listed tiers. WinterNode advertises mod support with 6GB from $11.94 and recommends an 8GB configuration at $15.92. DatHost includes mods in its stated feature set. Check the exact loader, version compatibility, file access and restart process for your mod pack before paying.
Short events rather than a permanent world
GPORTAL’s $6.24 three-day option can make sense for a weekend event. It becomes expensive when renewed repeatedly: three renewals already total $18.72 before taxes, while the same comparison lists $15.59 for 30 days. For a world you expect to keep, use a monthly plan and calculate the total for the number of months you expect to play.

How to compare a plan before checkout
- Write down the real requirement. Count the maximum concurrent players, not just the usual number. Note whether everyone uses the same platform and whether you will run mods.
- Set a memory floor. Use the provider’s player/RAM guidance as a starting point. A 2GB plan aimed at one to four players is not an equivalent comparison to a 6GB ten-player plan.
- Record both prices. Put the first-month amount, regular renewal, billing interval and any six- or 12-month commitment in your notes. Include taxes and currency conversion at checkout.
- Verify crossplay wording. “Valheim server” does not automatically mean every platform can connect. Look for explicit crossplay support and confirm the platforms your group uses.
- Check mod workflow. Find out whether the panel installs the loader, whether you can upload configuration files and how you roll back after an update.
- Inspect backups. Daily or twice-daily schedules are useful only if you can restore a known point. Check retention, storage limits and whether restores overwrite the current world.
- Choose a nearby location. Select a region close to most players. If the provider offers multiple locations, make sure the desired one is included in the quoted tier.
- Read fair-use and support terms. “Unlimited” labels can still have resource policies. Confirm support hours, migration options and what happens when a payment fails.
Promotions, renewals and prepaid terms
The largest pricing mistake is treating an introductory number as the cost of ownership. DatHost’s €1 first month becomes €14.90 on monthly billing. Apex Hosting’s reported $5.99 first month becomes $7.99 recurring. Nitrado’s regular US price is $16.19 for 30 days, while the reported $9.72 amount depends on the DEEPNORTH40 code and eligibility. Record the normal rate before deciding that a promotion is the cheapest option.

Prepayment can lower the effective monthly rate, but it trades flexibility for a longer commitment. DatHost’s comparison reports lower effective renewals on six- and 12-month terms without stating the exact figures. Do not calculate a saving until the checkout page shows the total, renewal behavior and cancellation terms.
Backups, updates and recovering a world
A cheap server that loses a world is not good value. The listed providers advertise different safeguards: DatHost reports automatic backups, Supercraft daily backups, Nitrado daily backups and WinterNode twice-daily backups. GPORTAL reports 50GB of backup space. These descriptions do not establish identical retention periods or restore procedures.
Before inviting players, create a manual backup, identify the restore control and note where downloaded world files are stored. Test a restore on a disposable copy if the panel allows it. Schedule major mod or game updates when the group is offline, and keep a local copy of an important world rather than relying only on the host.
Managed hosting versus running the server yourself
Self-hosting can remove the monthly hosting invoice, but the operator takes responsibility for port forwarding, firewall rules, updates, backups, monitoring, security and keeping the machine online. A home connection may also expose the server to changing IP addresses, upload limits or downtime when the host computer is off.

Managed hosting adds a recurring fee in exchange for provider infrastructure and a control panel. It is usually the better fit when nobody wants to maintain a server, when players are spread across regions, or when the world should remain available while the owner is away. Self-hosting is a separate cost-versus-labor decision, not a like-for-like $0 version of a managed plan.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Common failure modes and fixes
The server is full or lags when everyone joins
Check the plan’s stated player and RAM tier first. Move to the next tier instead of judging the host from a plan designed for fewer players. Reduce heavy world activity and mod load, then test again during peak use.
Console and PC players cannot connect
Confirm that crossplay is enabled in the server settings and explicitly supported by the purchased tier. Make sure every player is using a compatible game version; a platform mismatch can look like a hosting failure.
A modded world will not start
Verify the provider supports the loader your pack requires. Supercraft’s five-player tier is vanilla-only, while other listed providers advertise BepInEx, ValheimPlus or general mod support. Check loader and game versions, review startup logs, then restore the last working backup before changing several files at once.

A promotion disappears at renewal
Compare the invoice date and renewal amount with the original order. Promotional codes and first-month rates are conditional. If the regular price no longer fits your budget, export the world and move it before the next billing cycle.
Bottom-line recommendations
Godlike.Host is listed first here for Valheim servers with its own game panel, mod installer and up to three free backups a day. For a small, vanilla group, begin with the $5.99–$7.99 recurring 2GB options and confirm their one-to-four-player guidance. For five vanilla players, Supercraft’s $7.99 tier is the lowest listed price, provided you do not need mods. For a ten-player crossplay group, Supercraft’s $12.99 tier is the lowest stated dollar price in this comparison; Shockbyte, Nitrado and DatHost may justify higher or differently denominated costs through their advertised RAM, locations, backup or protection features. For mods, compare the supported loader and memory first; WinterNode’s 6GB/8GB configurations, Shockbyte’s stated BepInEx and ValheimPlus support, and DatHost’s mod feature are more relevant than the cheapest vanilla headline.
Recheck the checkout total, renewal rate, location and restore process immediately before purchase. Those details determine whether a server is genuinely cheap over the months your group will use it.
