There is no defensible universal winner for the cheapest good Space Engineers server. The visible offers use different currencies, regions, slot counts, billing periods and add-ons, and none of the available evidence is a controlled performance test. Start with the displayed prices, then compare the checkout total, renewal terms, platform support, server location, workload capacity and recovery tools for your own group.
What the current offers actually cost
The following figures are the prices displayed on the cited provider pages. They are not a like-for-like ranking: the currencies, billing periods and regional terms differ, and prices can change before you check out.

| Provider | Displayed price | Capacity and term | Advertised details | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Nitrado | $16.19 | 10 slots for 30 days | Crossplay and selectable server locations were shown. | US offer page. The same page also showed $4.09 for 10 slots for three days; that short term must not be treated as a monthly rate. |
| Host Havoc | Starting at $12.00 per month | Slot configuration not stated in the cited price line | Provider describes Xeon and Ryzen CPUs, DDR4/DDR5 memory, NVMe storage, management tools and offsite backups. | Billing term, add-ons and the final configuration affect the amount due. Hardware and backup statements are provider claims, not independent benchmark results. |
| GTX Gaming | £8.99 per month | 10-slot Basic plan | Up to 10 GB RAM, 100 GB NVMe storage, scheduled offsite backups, DDoS protection and crossplay were described. | UK-region pricing. Do not convert it directly into a US comparison without checking the location-specific checkout and taxes. |
The official Space Engineers page identifies GTX Gaming as the official PC server host and Nitrado as the official Xbox host. That designation is useful when confirming platform coverage, but it does not prove that either provider is cheapest or that a particular configuration will perform best for your world.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Why “cheapest” is not one number
A rental price only answers one part of the question. A server with ten advertised slots can behave very differently depending on simulation complexity, exploration distance, automation, scripts, mods, save size and how many players are active at once. A low headline price may also cover a short prepaid period, a base configuration or a region that is far from your players.

Compare plans only after fixing the variables that change the result:
- Country and currency: use the price and taxes shown for the account’s billing country. A pound-denominated UK plan and a dollar-denominated US plan are not direct competitors until you know the final checkout totals.
- Platform: decide whether the group uses PC, Xbox or a supported crossplay combination. Confirm the exact client versions accepted by the plan, rather than relying only on a generic “crossplay” label.
- Slots: count the maximum simultaneous players you really need, with a margin for guests. Ten slots is not automatically the right size for ten heavily modded players.
- Billing term: compare 30-day or monthly terms with other 30-day or monthly terms. A three-day promotion is useful for a weekend test, not evidence of a low recurring rate.
- Location: select a data-center region close to most players. Geographic distance affects latency; a provider’s displayed latency figure cannot guarantee the result on your home connections.
- Workload: ask how CPU time, memory, storage and backups are allocated at the plan level. Player count alone does not describe the load created by a large world or mod pack.
How to judge whether a low-cost plan is still good
1. Verify platform and crossplay before paying
Start with the group’s actual devices. The official host designation separates PC coverage from Xbox coverage, while individual provider pages may advertise crossplay. Check the plan’s supported game edition, crossplay behavior, connection method and any restrictions on mixing clients. If even one regular player uses a different platform, make that compatibility check before comparing price.
Ask whether crossplay is included in the quoted plan or requires a particular configuration. Also confirm whether a change in platform or edition later would require moving to a different product. A cheap server that cannot admit the intended players is not a bargain.

Use a location close to the largest share of your players, not necessarily the country where the account holder lives. Nitrado’s offer page exposes location selection; other hosts should provide an equivalent choice during ordering or through support. If the group spans continents, choose the location that gives the most players acceptable latency and test from the outlying regions before committing to a long term.

Do not treat a provider’s advertised ping or network description as a personal guarantee. Home internet routing, wireless congestion and the distance between each player and the selected data center can change the experience.
3. Match resources to the world and mod load
For a lightly used vanilla world, a basic configuration may be sufficient. Larger builds, automated production, persistent exploration and demanding mods create more simulation and memory pressure. GTX Gaming describes up to 10 GB of RAM on the listed Basic offer, while Host Havoc describes Xeon or Ryzen processors, DDR4/DDR5 memory and NVMe storage. Those descriptions identify the questions worth asking, but they do not establish that one host will run your particular save faster than another.
Before ordering, tell support the expected concurrent players, whether the world is modded, the approximate save size and whether scripts or other intensive systems are involved. Ask what happens if the plan needs more memory or CPU time: can you upgrade without changing the address, and is the upgrade prorated?
Godlike.Host also offers Space Engineers server hosting with its own game panel, upgrades and downgrades from the panel with prorated billing, up to three free backups a day with restore, and ten data-center locations to choose from.

4. Treat management and recovery as core features
A low monthly fee loses its value if recovering a damaged save requires a support ticket or if backups are too old to be useful. Look for:
- One-click or documented mod installation and removal.
- File access for saves, configuration and logs.
- Scheduled offsite backups, with stated retention and restoration procedures.
- A restart control and a way to schedule maintenance.
- Log access that lets you identify crashes, mod errors and connection failures.
- A clear process for downloading a backup before cancelling.
GTX Gaming and Host Havoc describe backup and management capabilities on their offer pages. Confirm how many restore points are retained, whether backups consume your storage allowance and whether restoration overwrites the current save. Never assume that “offsite backup” means unlimited retention or a guaranteed recovery time.
Interpreting each displayed offer
Nitrado: useful for short tests and Xbox-oriented groups
The US page displayed $16.19 for ten slots over 30 days and a separate $4.09 ten-slot offer for three days. The second figure can make a weekend trial inexpensive, but its three-day term prevents a fair monthly comparison. Nitrado is identified on the official game page as the official Xbox host, and its offer page showed crossplay and selectable locations. Confirm the renewal amount, taxes, location, storage, backup terms and the exact platform combination at checkout.
Host Havoc: a lower displayed monthly starting point with configuration questions
Host Havoc showed a starting price of $12 per month. “Starting at” means the final total depends on the selected term, slot count, location and add-ons. Its page describes Xeon and Ryzen CPUs, DDR4/DDR5 memory, NVMe storage, management tools and offsite backups. Use those claims to form a pre-sale checklist rather than as proof of comparative speed: ask which hardware tier your selected plan receives, whether resources are shared, and what backup retention and restoration controls are included.

GTX Gaming: a UK-priced 10-slot PC plan
GTX Gaming displayed £8.99 per month for a 10-slot Basic plan and described up to 10 GB of RAM, 100 GB of NVMe storage, scheduled offsite backups, DDoS protection and crossplay. The official game page identifies GTX Gaming as the official PC host. The quoted amount is a UK-region price, so compare it with a checkout total in the relevant country rather than converting the headline figure and assuming the same taxes, currency treatment or renewal terms elsewhere.
Calculate the amount you will really pay
Use the same worksheet for every provider. Record the amount due now and the amount due at renewal separately.
- Set one comparison term. Use 30 days or one calendar month for recurring plans. Keep trial or three-day offers in a separate “test” category.
- Record the exact slot count. Note whether slots are fixed, expandable or tied to a particular plan.
- Add required extras. Include extra memory, premium locations, additional storage, automated backups, dedicated IPs or platform features if the group needs them.
- Include taxes and payment fees. The advertised number may exclude local tax or show a price available only for a particular billing term.
- Write down renewal terms. Capture the next invoice amount, cancellation deadline and whether a short introductory rate ends automatically.
- Price portability. Check whether you can download the world and backups, and whether moving to another plan or host incurs a transfer charge.
The cheapest valid comparison is the lowest total for the same term, platform, location quality, capacity and recovery options—not the smallest number printed in a search result.

These are published requirements, not a guarantee that every world, player count or mod configuration will run well. Self-hosting removes the rental invoice but adds costs that a hosting plan bundles together:
- Electricity and the hardware’s purchase or depreciation.
- A reliable internet connection with sufficient upstream capacity and a reachable network configuration.
- Time spent installing updates, monitoring crashes and troubleshooting mods.
- Manual backup storage and a recovery plan.
- Physical availability: if the home PC or connection fails, the server is offline.
For a technically confident owner with an always-on Windows machine, self-hosting may be economical. For a group that values hands-off updates, data-center connectivity and managed recovery, those owner-time and reliability costs can outweigh a low monthly rental. The available documentation does not quantify either option for every household, so calculate your own power, hardware and time costs.
Decision guide for common groups
Weekend or event server
Prioritize a short, clearly defined term and a nearby location. Nitrado’s displayed three-day offer is relevant as a temporary test, but do not use it to estimate a recurring monthly budget. Download the world afterward if the event may continue.

Compare the lowest 30-day total for the required slots, then verify restart controls, save access and backup restoration. A basic plan may be adequate when the world and player activity are modest, but leave headroom for growth rather than buying exactly the expected player count.
Xbox or mixed-platform group
Confirm Xbox support and the exact crossplay behavior first. The official host designation and a provider’s crossplay label are useful starting points, but check the current product description and account requirements before payment.
Large or heavily modded world
Ask for the actual CPU and memory allocation, resource limits, upgrade path and backup retention. Headline slot counts are insufficient evidence. If a provider cannot explain how to restore a save or increase resources, a slightly higher but transparent plan may be the safer value.
Pitfalls that make a cheap server a bad purchase
- Comparing currencies as if they were prices in one market: a UK pound price, a US dollar price and local taxes require separate checkout checks.
- Confusing a trial term with a monthly subscription: three days, 30 days and recurring calendar billing answer different needs.
- Assuming official means fastest: official host status confirms a relationship or platform role, not an independent performance ranking.
- Buying slots instead of capacity: a ten-slot label does not reveal simulation headroom for a complex save.
- Ignoring renewal: introductory or starting prices can change when the first term ends.
- Skipping a restore test: a listed backup feature is only useful if you know how to retrieve and restore a usable point.
- Choosing a distant region: a lower price can be offset by poor latency for most of the group.
- Failing to plan an exit: confirm that you can download the save and configuration before cancelling.
Questions to ask support before checkout
- Which exact game platforms and crossplay combinations does this plan support today?
- What CPU model or resource allocation applies to the selected configuration?
- How much RAM and storage are included, and what happens when either limit is reached?
- How often are backups made, how long are they retained, and can I restore one myself?
- Can I install the mods and scripts used by my group, and can I access logs and save files?
- What is the renewal price, cancellation deadline and refund policy?
- Which locations are available, and can the server be moved later?
- Can I download a complete copy of the world before changing plans or cancelling?
Bottom line
Use $16.19 for 10 slots over 30 days on Nitrado, $12 per month starting on Host Havoc and £8.99 per month for GTX Gaming’s UK 10-slot Basic plan as comparison points—not as a universal ranking. The right cheapest-good choice is the plan whose same-term checkout total fits your country, platform, location, world workload and recovery requirements. Recheck every price and feature immediately before ordering, and consider self-hosting only after adding electricity, hardware, maintenance, backup and reliability costs.
