That makes its first-year cost $665.70 before any other charges—not $492, which is what six months at the introductory price alone would suggest. These are dated Australian offer examples reported on 2 October 2026, not guaranteed checkout prices; confirm the current price, eligibility and terms with the provider before signing up.
Cheapest NBN plans: what the $41 offer really costs
The $41 figure is a six-month introductory price for SpinTel’s unlimited NBN 25 plan. After the promotion, the reported monthly price is $69.95. The offer was reported by GadgetGuy on 2 October 2026 and also listed by WhistleOut, last updated 21 August 2026.

At those rates, six introductory months cost $246 and the next six months cost $419.70, for $665.70 over the first year, or an average of $55.48 a month. This calculation assumes the quoted prices apply for those periods and excludes any separate fees or equipment costs. Retail offers can change, and eligibility may be limited to new or returning customers, so check the provider’s current terms and address availability.
How the dated prices compare by NBN speed tier
The following are selected unlimited-plan examples in GadgetGuy’s 2 October 2026 comparison, not a complete survey of every Australian provider. Promotional prices are reported for six months unless stated otherwise. Compare the ongoing price as well as the advertised entry price.

All figures and the accompanying speed and access notes in this table are from GadgetGuy’s 2 October 2026 comparison. Prices alone do not establish which plan is best value: a lower introductory rate can be outweighed by a higher ongoing charge, while a faster tier may be unnecessary for a household’s use.
Which NBN plan should you choose?
Choose a tier that suits your household
Start with the number of people and devices using the connection at busy times, and the activities that matter—such as video calls, streaming or large downloads. A higher tier can provide more capacity, but paying for speed your household does not use can needlessly increase the bill. Check the provider’s typical busy-evening download speed rather than relying only on the tier name.

- AC1900 WIFI COVERAGE FOR THE WHOLE HOME: Stay connected in every room with dual-band AC1900 WiFi covering up to 1,800 sq ft and Beamforming+ for stronger signal to mobile devices. Real-world coverage depends on home size, layout, and building materials.
- WIRED CONNECTIONS FOR YOUR FASTEST DEVICES: Four Gigabit Ethernet ports keep gaming consoles, desktops, and streaming devices hardwired for the lowest latency and the most stable connection in your home.
Check the address and access technology
NBN tier availability is not identical at every address. The network operator’s address checker can show what is available at your premises; then confirm that the provider offers the plan there. GadgetGuy’s comparison associates NBN 100 with FTTN, FTTB and FTTC and says NBN 500 can be available to FTTP and HFC connections following a speed upgrade. The network operator’s wholesale tier information also sets out access-technology applicability, including qualifications for some FTTN and FTTB services.
Look beyond unlimited data
Unlimited data removes a usage cap, but it does not tell you whether the plan suits your household. Compare the full monthly charge after any promotion, connection or other fees, contract length, upload speed, telephone inclusion if needed, customer-service availability and any modem requirements. Check whether you can bring your own modem or whether equipment is included or separately charged. A provider change may mean receiving a new router or returning an old one, but not every customer needs to buy new equipment.

Why NBN prices differ from wholesale figures
NBN operates the wholesale network; retail providers set the prices customers pay and package their own plans. The operator says Australians can choose among more than 150 providers. Its FY2027 average wholesale costs, effective from 1 July 2026, are $36.15 per month for 25/5 and 25/10Mbps, $57.60 for 50/20Mbps, $60.85 for 500/50Mbps and $75.88 for 1000/100Mbps. These are wholesale averages, not retail prices or a prediction of what an individual household will pay.
When announcing wholesale price changes, nbn Chief Customer Officer Anna Perrin said: “We understand that price changes can raise questions for customers, which is why we encourage people to review their options and check they’re on the plan that best suits their needs and budget.” See nbn’s wholesale price changes statement.

Before you sign up
- Check the current plan price and how long any introductory offer lasts.
- Calculate the cost after the promotion ends, not just the first bill.
- Run an address check and confirm the tier is available from the chosen provider.
- Review typical evening download speed, upload speed, fees, contract terms and phone inclusions.
- Check modem compatibility and whether equipment is included, optional or separately priced.
- Confirm that you meet any new- or returning-customer eligibility conditions.
For a fixed-line NBN connection that is unavailable or unsuitable, 5G home wireless is a separate option to compare; it is not an NBN plan. WhistleOut lists TPG 5G Home Internet with unlimited data, but check its own availability and terms independently.
