Because the slot counts and terms differ, the table cannot establish a universal “best” host. It does establish that Nitrado’s four-slot, 30-day offer is the cheapest displayed monthly entry point in this set.

Which host is cheapest for your group?
Small groups of four or fewer
Nitrado’s $6.59 four-slot plan is the lowest listed 30-day price. It fits a group that normally has no more than four concurrent players and wants a conventional monthly term. The $1.69 three-day option can be useful for a brief event or a test, but extending a short-term offer across a month would not be a valid price comparison unless the provider explicitly states that renewal calculation.
Groups needing six slots
GPORTAL displays six slots for $10.49 per 30 days. This costs more than Nitrado’s entry plan, but it also reserves two additional player places. Comparing the two prices without mentioning capacity makes the difference look larger than it is. If five or six people may join, a four-slot server can force someone to wait or leave, eliminating the practical saving.

When BisectHosting belongs in the shortlist
BisectHosting’s general game-hosting listing shows Don’t Starve Together starting at $11.99, but it does not establish the billing term, slot count or exact configuration behind that number. How to decide whether a cheap server is still good
1. Buy the capacity you will actually use
Slots are simultaneous player places, not a measure of world size or a promise of performance. Count the largest number of people likely to connect at the same time, then allow a little headroom for guests. A four-slot plan is economical for a regular group of three or four; it is not economical if a fifth player regularly gets excluded. Check whether the provider lets you change the slot count later and whether changing plans alters the billing date.
2. Keep the billing period visible
A three-day promotion and a 30-day subscription answer different questions. Record the term beside every price while comparing. Ask whether the displayed amount is an introductory charge, a one-time purchase or a recurring renewal. The available offers do not establish renewal pricing, cancellation windows, refunds or taxes, so verify those items on the final order screen and in the provider’s terms.

3. Select a region close to most players
Nitrado presents locations including Frankfurt, London, New York City, Miami, Los Angeles, Singapore, Tokyo and Sydney, along with location-specific latency values on its page. Those values describe the page’s locations; they are not a guarantee for every player’s connection. Choose the region that minimizes geographic distance for the majority of your group rather than selecting solely by the lowest headline price. If your players are spread across continents, favor the region that avoids one player’s consistently poor route and test during the hours you normally play.

BisectHosting advertises full mod support, NVMe SSDs, instant setup and three days of free backups. These claims can help you form questions, but they do not prove comparative uptime, tick performance, CPU allocation or support quality. Ask what is backed up, how often backups run, how long they are retained and whether you can download them before relying on a feature.
What you need before ordering
- A target slot count based on simultaneous players, not total people in your Discord or Steam group.
- The country or city that gives most players the shortest practical route.
- A decision about mods, configuration edits and whether you need downloadable backups.
- The intended billing period: a short event, one month or an ongoing world.
- A payment method and enough margin for taxes or currency conversion that may appear at checkout.

- Open the provider’s official Don’t Starve Together PC offer. Confirm that the product is for the PC edition you and your friends use.
- Set the slot count. Start with your real simultaneous-player requirement. Do not select a four-slot plan merely because it has the lowest sticker price if your group needs six or ten places.
- Choose the billing term. Keep three-day and 30-day offers in separate notes. Read whether the amount recurs automatically and at what rate.
- Pick the server location. Use the region nearest most players. Treat any displayed latency as a location-specific indication, not a universal guarantee.
- Review included storage and backup options. Identify backup capacity, retention, restoration steps and whether backups cover both savegames and configuration files.
- Check the configuration and mod workflow. If you use mods, verify how they are uploaded, updated, enabled and removed. Do not assume that “mod support” means every mod is compatible.

Migration, backups and recovery
Protect the world before changing hosts
Make an external copy of the world save and configuration files before cancelling an existing server. A provider’s included backup system is useful, but it should not be your only copy. Download a backup when the control panel permits it, label it with the date and record which mods were enabled at that point.
Expect mod and configuration differences
A world can fail to load when a mod version, configuration value or server setting changes. Keep a written list of enabled mods and their load order. If a migrated world behaves differently, first restore the last known-good save, then add changes one at a time. This isolates a broken mod from a damaged save.

Neither statement tells you how many restore points exist, how frequently they are created or what happens after the included period, so obtain those details before treating the feature as a complete disaster-recovery plan.

Self-hosting versus renting
Klei’s official support guidance says someone hosting a Don’t Starve Together server should ensure the system surpasses the listed requirements. Self-hosting can therefore be an option when you already have suitable hardware, a reliable internet connection and the time to administer updates, ports, backups and troubleshooting. The available requirements guidance does not calculate hardware cost, electricity, internet service or administration time against rented plans, so it cannot establish that self-hosting is cheaper for every household.
Renting trades those responsibilities for a recurring bill and a provider control panel. Self-hosting may make sense for an existing always-on machine; renting is easier to budget when you want a server available without maintaining your own hardware. Include the value of your time and the cost of an outage when making the comparison.

Common mistakes that make a “cheap” plan expensive
